Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 28 year old woman and was diagnosed with graves disease 3 years ago. I have commented o many forums regarding my problem but would like your advice. I was treated with radio active iodine in 2006 and then became hypothyroid, I now take 150mg of levothyroxine daily. I have never suffered from graves opthalmology as far as i'm aware. For the last 6 months I have had a chronic daily headache. This started 3 days after purchasing new glasses.
877337 tn?1249844450 Graves' disease may present clinically with one of the following characteristic signs: * exophthalmos (protuberance of one or both eyes) * a non-pitting edema (pretibial myxedema), with thickening of the skin usually found on the lower extremities * fatigue, weight loss with increased appetite, and other symptoms of hyperthyroidism * rapid heart beats * muscular weakness The two signs that are truly 'diagnostic' of Graves' disease (i.e.
877337 tn?1249844450 What are the earliest signs/symptoms of Grave's Disease? Can a person have this and the entire thyroid not be effected? Does a person have to have the bulging eye problems or skin problems on the shins for it to be Grave's Disease? One would think it would take time to get to those conditions, therefore I'm wondering what the earliest signs/symptoms might be. Thanks in advance for your help. I'm just trying to learn.
Avatar n tn Can you have graves disease so bad that it would seem like bipolar and I thought Graves disease was an overactive thyroid, so how can you be hypro?
Avatar n tn I have had steroids for my eyes and and tapazole nothing has worked. I have toxic nodoles along with Graves disease. I have changed my diet and tried different things what do you suggest. I'm not sleeping, I have gained most of my weight back with increased heart beat. What can I do.

Avatar m tn The combination of eye signs, goiter, and any of the characteristic symptoms and signs of hyperthyroidism forms a picture that can hardly escape recognition." I did not recognize such a picture. Since I have no eye signs or goiter, anxiety/irritability could have many causes, insomnia has been chronic problem for decades, and PVCs are rare, and I have hardly any of the hyper symptoms you mention, I was looking for cause other than Graves.
Avatar f tn By next morning rash had spread to shins and and hands and as day went on it got worse and hosp staff treated and sent me home. When the rash calmed I had signs and symptoms of HYPERTHYOIDISM/ Graves' disease after an hour the rash would flare and both symptoms took hold of my body, it took a week to settle rash and for it to go away but the hyperthyroidism is still present.
1428646 tn?1330978063 graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster. I was on medication for about 2 years. then it went into remission now it is back. graves disease could attack any organ , graves disease is your immune system attacks your organs not virus or bacteria.
Avatar f tn I went today for a follow up ultrasound (they are watching nodules for growth)...and I have appt with the Doctor at my endocrin's ofc on 12/15...the p.a. has told me at previous appts that thryroidectomy is usually the last course of treatment and he also said they do not prescribe Armor to their patients (because it's so hard to regulate....blah blah blah)........Is it crazy for me to think that I should insist on either Armor or a thyroidectomy???
484482 tn?1319378880 If so what are the signs and symptoms and can it be treated? I have a family member who was diagnosed today...Any input is greatly appreciated...
Avatar f tn I was disgnosed with Graves when I was 14 years old and I am now 20 years old. I had general symptoms of Graves disease such as; Heart palpatations, goiter, tremors, weight loss, and sweats of my hands. I was first put on Atentol for my heart and Methmazole twice daily for my thyroid. Within a month I was off of my heart medicine and was still on Methmazole twice daily. Then probably within 3 months I was down to the dose which I still take today, one 10mg tablet of Methmazole at bedtime.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in 2003 and opted for total thyroidectomy once they found cold nodules in my uptake scans. Biopsy revealed that I had papillary cancer in addition to Graves. RAI treatment went well and I was declared cancer free in 2008. I now have questions after 7 years regarding the Graves. Once the cancer was found all my doc talked about was the cancer, Graves was pushed to the side and we treated and talked about only the cancer.
Avatar n tn I have graves disease, but was in remission. Then I had cancer and chemotherapy. My TSH level is hyper again and my other tests normal. The doctors won't say if chemo can activate your graves disease. They do say that a physical or emotional change to my body can trigger it. My thoughts, Cancer and chemotherapy are big time physical and emotional changes.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
Avatar f tn Excess tearing and sensation of grit or sand in either or both eyes Reddened or inflamed eyes Widening of the space between your eyelids Swelling of the lids and tissues around the eyes Light sensitivity Less often, Graves' ophthalmopathy can produce these signs and symptoms: Ulcers on the cornea Double vision Limited eye movements Blurred or reduced vision I would say you have a mild case of TED (thyroid eye disease) and need prednisolone for the swelling to go down.
Avatar n tn You may want to pop in there for some advice as well. Both diseases (FM and Graves symptoms overlap) Make sure you stop back in both places. Take care.
Avatar f tn Something we did not expect was him having Aortic Stenosis. Graves Disease causes numerous symptoms so we thought it was the disease causing his heart problems. He just took the treatment for the Graves so it's going to be a month or so before the treatment starts to show some results. He has another test scheduled next week with an Interventional Cardiologist. I've read alot of material on Graves Disease and Aortic Stenosis, but I have not found any material on having both diseases.
Avatar n tn i feel like my legs are going to collapse, i feel sick all the time, im just looking for a doctor that will listen to me because my symptoms are getting worse. what i understand about graves disease is that it is an autoimmune disease and that there is no cure, but the endocrinologist is taking it so lighly because my readings are fine, what am i to do??
Avatar n tn s disease, then still not feeling well, and finally diagnosed with graves disease and vitamin D deficiency. Then came Graves eye disease, not severe and under control. So yes have levels checked, I had only TSH checked in Feb of last year, and it came back in normal range, when i had my physical my tsh was 0.00 so they tested T3 and T4 and they were not normal. Good luck, it is a slow process, and i get depressed about it often, it is not a disease with an easy cure, it is a long battle.
