Avatar n tn Graves Disease cannot be cured...sorry to say you have it for life. As for the natural 'way', I have never come across anyone who has succeeded in 'controlling ' Graves with natural therapies alone. If you do have Graves Disease and Hyperthyroidism, you are at high risk of thyroid storm (atrial fibraillation) if not on anti-thyroid medications which can result in a massive heart attack or even death. I am not trying to scare you in anyway...

1314073 tn?1282841674 I was just diagnosed with Graves Disease. I've been doing reasearch on the Internet and now I am TERRIFIED! Are my eyes going to bulge and my hair fall out? Does this happen to everyone with Graves Disease. I know this sounds vain, but fear is fear and this is all I can think about. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Avatar m tn No, methimazole can't cure Graves Disease; nothing can. Once you have it, you have it for life, even if you have your thyroid removed or it goes into remission.
Avatar f tn Would having your thryoid taken out be a cure for the disease and less need to take the meds This discussion is related to methimazole 10 mg. for 3 wks. but thyroid levels still high.
415642 tn?1207784582 To answer your question, no, the anti thyroid meds will not cure Graves Eye Disease. While the two conditions often occur together, they are caused by two different sets of antibodies. That is, the antibodies attacking your thyroid causing it to overproduce thyroid hormones (and your Graves diagnosis) are different from the antibodies attacking your eyes. The anti thyroid drugs don't treat the antibodies in either case, they cause your thyroid to stop producing so much hormone.
Avatar n tn Question if anyone knows- once Graves eye disease is done is it gone forever? Will the swelling and eye problems come back?
Avatar n tn There are also herbs that help the symptoms of Graves disease. I am not sure that they cure it. Also, try to do things that relieve stress. Every web site I read talks about yoga. Also one web site talked about keeping your throat covered when you go out in the cold. It was a Chinese medicine web site. It also said that we don't get enough of oxygen because of the way we breathe. I guess that is why yoga is suggested. It suggested to practice deep breathing.
Avatar m tn Hello. I know that I have a thyroid problem, I found out about 1 year ago. Since then, I started something reading forums, and educating myself on how I can possible cure it. I started taking Fish Oil/Omega 3. I've been taking these pills for about 7 months now. Another thing that I started taking is something called Sambucus Nigra (google it if you don't know it). I also drink tea from some European herbs, I eat 2 grapefruits per day, and I am eating foods that are rich in iodine.
Avatar f tn No joint pain, no cramping. My goal is to control my Graves Disease through Natural Ways. I believe strongly that it can be controlled with 1) Good Sleep 2) All Natural Food Diet 3) Keep Stress in Check 4) Plenty of Fresh Water 5) Prayer 6) Exercise 7) Supplement , and if needed , replacement hormones... of course natural ones not synthetic. I am OBSESSED with a cure for this most dreadful disease.
558632 tn?1303471125 You probably should be seen by an ophthalmologist, preferably one who specializes in Graves Eye Disease. I have heard the earlier one is seen by an eye doc, the more optimal the outcome in terms of getting things as close to "normal" as possible. I believe there are antibodies that can be tested for with a blood test that indicate the presence, or at least the likelihood, of GED. I had the eye problems before I even knew I had Graves, and assumed they were allergies.
393419 tn?1228447393 Too many people, including doctors, think that a thyroidectomy or destroying the thyroid by radioactive iodine (which was what they did to me) is a cure for Grave's Disease. It is not! There is no cure for autoimmune diseases, and one of the parts of the body Grave's Disease affects is the eyes. Mine started getting buggy a few years after my thyroid went out on me, then eventually I started gaining weight, no matter how much synthroid they prescribed for me.
Avatar n tn My endocrinologists recommended RAI treatment, telling me it is Graves Disease. No ultrasound or uptake tests have been done (or suggested). I am not wanting to treat something that I have no symptoms for, so radically . Any suggestions?
710534 tn?1264352757 I had a subtotal thyroidectomy at age 12, and there was no change in the Graves' Eye Disease. I've been euthyroid since age 17, when what was left of my thyroid settled itself into a normal pattern. This year (age 60), I had orbital decompression surgery, with very good results. My eyes look and feel "normal" (whatever THAT is), and the surgery itself went very well, with a fairly brief recovery period and little discomfort.
Avatar n tn I also have graves disease dxd Dec 2007. Like you, my graves disease began right around the time that I wanted to start a family & I had all the same symptoms as you. Fortunately the PTU is working for me. I have decided to have surgery, but I am waiting until January for other reasons. My Endo says that you can get pregnant sooner after surgery, vs RAI you have to wait 6-12 mos before TTC.
2079117 tn?1332020390 Yes, TSI does stand for Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin which is the antibody responsible for hyperthyroidism in Graves' disease. TSI antibodies are also associated with thyroid eye disease and pretibal myxedema. I'll send you Dr Weil's article on Graves' Disease which lists both conventional and natural therapies.
Avatar n tn The second part is true. The first part is not.
