Avatar n tn You have to be proactive and assertive with doctors about thyroid disease for some reason. The migraines, the pressure behind the eyes, the muscle weakness... they are all symptoms of Grave's and that could be all that's wrong with you... however, you MUST get a second opinion, and you'll probably need a third and fourth, too.
877337 tn?1249844450 Thanks for the reply. This is quite interesting. I actually received the news this week that I tested positive for Graves' Disease. Apparently the Graves was developing for some time as the lower back & leg pain were developing as well. I don't know yet if there is a connection. I have an appointment with my Endo and an Orthopedic doctor next week. It will be interesting to learn if there is a connection.
11594441 tn?1419693988 disease, caused by overproduction of the thyroid hormone thyroxine). Symptoms may include muscle weakness, myalgias (muscle tenderness), wasting of the pelvic girdle and shoulder muscles, fatigue, and/or heat intolerance. Thyroid myopathy may be associated with rhabdomyolysis (acute muscle breakdown), damage to the muscles that control eye movement, and temporary, but severe, attacks of muscle weakness that are associated with low blood potassium levels (known as periodic paralysis).
Avatar f tn The short answer is that all of the above - hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or other can all cause muscle weakness. Muscle weakness in the muscles you are talking about feeling weakness in, like from pushups (triceps, deltoids, maybe biceps and trapezius) are associated with hypo and hyperthyroidism though, so I think you're on the right track to look in to your thyroid hormone level as a cause, but I can't say it is definitely one of those, or which one it is.
Avatar m tn 5 yrs - Symptoms vary in intensity and duration, but they are as follows - heavy tiredness, muscle weakness, balance probs, anxiety, palpatations, muscle aches, joint pain, occassional strange explosions in my head ( feel like a split second stroke ), tingling sensations in my face and numbness in my hands, muscle twitches and cramps, hard to get up in the am, migraine headches, involuntary jerks, ? depression and seem to have CNS medication sensitivities.
Avatar n tn I was Diagnosed and Treated with radioactive Iodine for Graves Disease in the Fall of last year. Since then I have been battling hair loss, weight gain, muscle cramps and extreme tiredness. I recently in May went on the synthroid but haven't had much change except for the muscle cramps have reduced. My question is though, how does taking synthroid effect your periods.
437363 tn?1212011158 I was diangosed in 2006 with Graves Disease. I had the RAI treatment and have since struggled up and down with my TSH. I had been fine, but in the last few weeks/months I have been dealing with pretty severe muscle pain. I have had numerous doctors appointments and they've tested for anything possible in blood work and found nothing. All of my numbers look great, all normal. I KNOW this muscle pain in not normal and I refuse to do as the doctors suggest and just "wait it out".
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease 11 years ago. My endo prescribed Methimazole, which I was allergic to, so he told me he didn't want to prescribe me anything else because sometimes the allergy kills the thyroid. It apparently did, because all of a sudden I was hypo and I had to go on synthroid. Since then, I lost my health insurance and got handled by my PCP instead of the endo (cheaper).
Avatar n tn The hyperthyroidism is likely autoimmune (ie Graves disease) and can cause the muscle weakness. Beta blockers will protect the heart and help with some symptoms, but not muscle weakness. 7 weeks is a long time to wait for an evaluation for symptomatic hyperthyroidism -- would call the endo's office to try to get on the cancellation list for an earlier appointment.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in 2005. I was treated with Radioactive Iodine. Since then I have had heart problems (increased heart rate and palpatations). I am currently on a high dosage of Cardiazem CD to control the heart rate. My Endocronologist claims that my thyroid is under control. I feel otherwise as do my Cardiologist.
Avatar f tn I want to ask your opinion on a book called GRAVES DISEASE practical guide by Elaine Moore. And were r you located??
Avatar n tn I have graves disease (hyperthyroid) and graves eye disease...turns out many of the dificiencise caused by the statins put my system in imbalance. And so much for their great ability to reduce inflammation...mine is through the roof. The l-carnitine and coQ10 and selenium have worked wonders though.
Avatar m tn With the bad muscle pain, are you referring to muscle cramps? When hyperthyroid , experienced a thigh muscle cramp--extremely painful--they are as bad if not worse than calf cramps or foot cramps. Talk with your doctor. My philosophy is treat the cause--that being the hyperthyroidism-- and the pain and cramps will resolve as they did for me. Best wishes for a gradual recovery--this can be a slow process so be patient with yourself.
Avatar n tn all over leg, bottom of foot, upper arm, shoulder, and neck muscle pain and weakness. I experience muscle cramping, constant eye twitching, and here lately, seem to have started having some problems with my memory. In October of last year I weighed 170 ~ I now weigh 121. Had blood work done numerous times and my CK level was always elevated - not severely, but elevated (I think highest was around the 500 range). Had two abnormal EMG's and then had a muscle biopsy.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with Graves Disease, very high t4, t3 and very low tsh, high antibodies, uptake and scan 90.2%. I am currently on beta blockers and methimazole for 1 month. My heart symptoms, high blood pressure and pulse of 120-160 are now close to normal but I still have other symptoms, hot all the time, extreme sweating, insomnia and worst of all very intense muscle pain especially in my thighs but in the rest of legs and arms too.
Avatar f tn I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years with no success. I finally found out that I was pregnant the beginning of last year and made it to 4 months and suffered a miscarriage for no apparent reason.
Avatar m tn I have been having intermittement muscle weakness and joint pain for about 2 months now. Have had a spinal tap (negative) and two MRIs - some lesions seen but neuro says they are "insignificant". MS has been ruled out. The only blood tests that have come back abnormal are for active epstein-barr, vitamin d deficiency (level is 10), thyroid underactive and cortisol underactive. I am extremely exhausted and anxious alot of the time.
4852898 tn?1360039862 My bilirubin is always slightly high since my gallbladder was removed 4 years ago. I have Graves disease but have been euthyroid for over 4 months now, off medication for over 12 months. B12 has been low so I take supplements. Chiropractor xrays show my cervical spine is curved the wrong way and there's a slight bend in my thoracic spine, they think they can fix the headaches, I've been there twice so we will see later on.
Avatar n tn This is when I started to self diagnosis myself as having Graves disease. My symptoms were sweating all the time, heat and light sensitivity, rapid heart rate of 120 sitting, muscle weakness (could hardly walk down steps!), and a huge appetite, frequent bowel movements, and my hands would shake all the time. Before this occured I was very much into lifting weights and running long distances. When I started to see my endocrinologist she said my TSH was less than .
Avatar f tn I am now beginning to have hyper symptoms again, extremely shaky hands in the mornings, leg muscle weakness, palpitations, bowel movements 2 and 3 times a day,the whole 9 yards. Is it possible methimazole is no longer working?
