Avatar f tn Graves disease is an autoimmune disease and would have to be confirmed by antibody tests - not just being hyperthyroid. Not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease. Hyperthyroidism can also be present with Hashimoto's, which is another autoimmune thyroid disease.
Avatar m tn Went to see my PCP because my mother felt my thyroid looked enlarged and because my sister had thyroid cancer, mother had Hashimoto's thyroiditis with extensive fibrosis. My lab values are as follows. T4 free 2.16 TSH 0.03 Ant-thyroglobulin antibody 13.7 Thyroid Microsomal Ab 1634.
Avatar m tn Agree that it would be good to post your actual lab results, with reference ranges, so we can see what they are. You also need to get tested for thyroid antibodies. You should get tested for both Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is most often associated with hypothyroidism, but is commonly characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism, as well; and Graves Disease. It's possible to have them both.
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune. While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages. You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.
Avatar n tn My sister has Graves Disease. She took the radiation treatment and now takes pills to regulate her thyroid. For the last month she has been experiencing severe dizziness that brings on nausea and vomiting. It is difficult for her to even find a position where the symptoms stop for a while. She has been to several doctors who are give her ideas of what the problem is, though all say that is is unusual for symptoms to last this long. Her blood pressure is low also.
Avatar f tn Thyroid inferno refers to the colour Doppler appearance of the thyroid gland in active Graves disease (inclusive of variants such as Marine Lenhart syndrome), and consists of multiple small areas of colour flow seen diffusely throughout the gland representing increased vascularity and arteriovenous shunting.
Avatar n tn My interenist suspected Graves, ergo the reason for the tests. My concern is that I have some of the classic symptoms of Graves, but my test results show me to be in the normal range. I'm wondering if others have had their values fall in the normal range but second level testing (e.g., radioactive iodine test) revealed a problem.
Avatar f tn You already have a thread started that includes these same lab values and most of this information. gimel has already given you some very valuable information and has addressed some of your questions. Negative ANA does not guarantee that you don't have an autoimmune condition, such as Hashimoto's, as you do have elevated TPOab. Your Free T4 is high, at 88% of range, indicating hyper, not hypo.
Avatar f tn hi I have recently seen my doctor about 2 lumps on either side of my neck, he done blood tests which he said were basically fine, I am now having blurred vision and the lumps are causing uncomfortable ache in the back of my head, I have read about graves disease and many of the symptoms I have, could the doctor have missed graves disease?
Avatar f tn I'd pursue this further if I were you. Your symptoms aren't terrible, if I interpret correctly, but you do have a few. Hypertension is also a symptom of hyperthyroidism. I'd want to repeat the test, making sure that frees, rather than totals, were tested this time. I'd also want to have antibody tests since most thyroid disease is autoimmune in nature. Graves' disease is autoimmune hyper, and the test for it is TSI (thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin).
Avatar n tn How dangerous is Graves Disease? How long can it go untreated. I have no symptoms--I'm not hyper, in fact, I'm always tired, my eyes don't buldge nor does my neck. My TSH level is .01, T4 is 4.26 T3 2.35. Can this be treated through diet?
Avatar m tn thank you very much for your feedback. I will do some research on Grave's disease...
1039061 tn?1257878294 Hi everyone! I posted a question about a month ago, asking for some advice with the problems I was/am having with my thyroid. When I posted the question, one person who responded said I should post my labs and the results with the guidelines that were used. So I am going to post them because I still need help. So here are the tests that I have had done: ( I am typing them just how they appear on the copies that I have) Lab: Anti Thyroglobulin Antibodies 250h IU/mL 0 - 34 Lab: Total T4 6.
Avatar f tn my son was a newly diagnosed "graves disease" pt. he was given tatazole tablet 5mg. to be taken after breakfast for one month, what are the side effect of tatazole, the things he have to avoid and if you can give me more/additional information about the disease. thanks!
Avatar f tn 140) Basically, the Endocrinologist told me my results mean I have both Graves Disease and Hashimotos. She is sending me for a uptake/scan and ultrasound of my Thyroid in a month and then I follow up with her in a month and a half. In the meantime I am trying to research these autoimmune disorders and feel overwhelmed. I am confused that I have BOTH, and that I feel lethargic and am experiencing weight gain with a TSH level of 0.00.
Avatar n tn Sorry, Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease that is life long, though there are treatments for it that can allow you to live a normal life. What symptoms prompted you to get tested for thyroid issues? What tests were done to diagnose Graves? There's no reason that, once properly treated, you shouldn't be able to play sports again..
Avatar f tn FT4 does look a little high in the range, but not above most ranges. Ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from you own lab report. Your doctor should test TSI (thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin), which would tell you if you have Graves' or not. TPOab (thyroid peroxidase antibodies) should also be tested. They can be elevated with both postpartum thyroiditis and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. A goiter is not the cause, but the result, of thyroid disease.
Avatar f tn In 2005 I was diagnosed with Graves disease by an uptake scan and lab values. I took tapazol for about 6 months and all symptoms including severe anxiety, panic attacks, vertigo, sweating at night stopped. So I discontinued the tapazol. I was fine until September 2007 I had a severe UTI my symptoms returned and my labs showed slight hyperthyroidism. I am now diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis and still waiting to feel better.
Avatar f tn I am still awaiting report on my RAIU. My doctor is considering Hashitoxicosis vs. Graves disease. I am 43 and had permanent sterilization 5 years back. Please guide me about likely diagnosis.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease in 2001 and my symptoms were incredibe fatigue and pain all over that felt like my muscles and bones were being pulled apart. When put on the methimazole, the aches and fatigue stopped immediately. After 5 years, however of being on the methimazole, still could not control TSH for correct levels and has thyroid removed.
5820022 tn?1378512355 "Graves disease usually yields RAIU values of 40 to 80% (normal 10 to 30%) at 24 hours. However, high-turn over varieties may manifest only as elevated 4-6 hour RAIU values (normal 4 to 15%), as 24 hour RAIU results may be normal or only mildly elevated." So, your result is toward the high end of the typical Graves' result.
Avatar f tn I expect that the T4 test is Total T4, for which ranges typically are like 4-12. A Total T4 test represents all the T4 in your body. Only a small portion of that is biologically active. So for a better understanding of your status you should always make sure they test for both Free T4 and Free T3. Free T3 is used by all the cells of your body to create the energy needed. Free T4 has to be converted by your body to Free T3 to be metabolized.
Avatar f tn Graves Disease is an Autoimmune Disease and usually when one autoimmune disease is found, there is usually a 2nd one found (this one being Diabetes). The Graves and Hyperthyroidism can be treated by either anti-thyroid meds or pernmanant treatment which will eventually stablaise the Diabetes although this is extremely hard if the Diabetes has been undetected for a long time. And something to watch for is ...Metformin can interefer with thyroid medications.
