Common Questions and Answers about Graves disease kelp

graves-disease

Avatar f tn This is consistent with hyperthyroidism due to Graves disease with mildly elevated T4. The iodine in the OTC products can worsen this and should be discontinued. Methimazole would be the usual recommendation at this point to normalize the thyroid function.
8437409 tn?1403677096 Initially when I was diagnosed 9 years ago I had gone thru 6 months of diarrhea after having my first born son and went from 160 to 118 lbs. I was diagnosed hyperthyroid and graves disease. I was the worst case that had ever seen and TSH was 0.. to sure on others.
Avatar f tn If so, is the cessation of the supplements enough that she may have normal thyroid function again.
616450 tn?1228433627 I definitely have seen that my diet can rev up my immune system (aggrivatign the graves), but I lack any specifics or scientific studys to back this up.
Avatar f tn I got tested because my mother and grandmother have graves disease. I went a specialist but they said I have mild graves disease and there isn't anything to do until it really gets out of control but I am just scared that my working out and cardio might be doing something to my heart. I know when I get doing the cardio my heart gets up to 170 or 180 and i am 22 years old. I just didn't know if that is okay for someone my age or if I am overworking my heart.
1350297 tn?1276787394 New research shows that iodine can actually make the Hashimoto's thryoid condition worse (the book Why Do I still Have Thyroid Symptoms When My lab Tests are Normal by Datis Kharrazian). I quit iodine because I noticed thyroid swelling. Get the TGab and TPOab antibody test for Hashimoto's. Most doctors treat Hashimoto's as another case of low thyroid, but it's not.
Avatar f tn You can go back and forth for years Hypo/Hyper with Autoimmune disease, Hashimoto/Graves. Have you had your antibodies tested for this.? There are some foods you should not eat with thyroid disease, but this depends on what type of thyroid disease you have, im not to sure myself what they are but others will help you with that..Hypo will make you very tired and i did get a lot of dizzy spells till the meds are working for you.someone will be along to help you more, good luck :).
8437409 tn?1403677096 Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) are found raised in most cases of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and about 65% of patients with Graves' disease. Thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb) levels can also appear either autoimmune disease. TgAb are more likely to appear after thyroid gland swelling (inflammation) or injury.
Avatar n tn Kelp might help your thyroid problem or make it worse. http://thyroid.about.com/od/thyroidbasicsthyroid101/a/5lies.htm An excerpt from the above site: Natural health practitioners who don't truly understand thyroid function are often quick to tell you that "thyroid problems mean you need iodine" or iodine-containing herbs or supplements, such as kelp, bladderwrack and bugleweed. If you are truly iodine deficient, iodine may be able to help your thyroid.
Avatar n tn My niece was diagnosed with Graves Disease and put on some medication but not synthroid. After 2 years her doctor says the Graves Disease is gone and she was taken off of medication. I do not understand this for I had the testing and then an ablation and now I wonder if I needed it. I had the uptake test and they said it revealed Graves. I am told I have Graves controlled and will always be hypothyroid. I am confused.
Avatar f tn I was dx with Graves and Hyperthyoidism. I was told to avoid : all iodised salt...use sea salot or rock salt. all fish (because of iodine) ..fish oil capsules instead. all seafood. all kelp or seaweed. all aspartme (soft drinks) all soy products. all leafy green vegetables (goitrogens) Basically just eat healthy and no re-packaged foods. Everything fresh in the way or fruit and vegies.

Avatar n tn Can you please help me understand and explain Hashimoto disease. Where did it get its name? Is there a cure?
Avatar f tn I never suggest to people with thyroid disease to take kelp. It will interfere with your thyroid meds, and keep you on a roller coaster of dosages. The biggest thing with thyroid is consistency. If you keep your levels consistent, then you will feel your best. Also with kelp I would imagine you will never know an exact dosage each time that you are consuming. My advice.....don't take it. Now as far as iodine is concerned, in the form of Iodoral, etc....that is a whole different ballgame.
Avatar f tn 5 and I decided to take kelp and since then my tsh keeps going up. I stopped taking kelp a week ago. Could kelp be a problem or it is smth else? Also I have twitching lazy left eye, it looks smaller then right eye. Can I improve my tsh without meds?
Avatar f tn does the fact that I am still slightly hyperthyroid after about 4-5 months confirm that I have Graves desease? This all started with a slightly retracted upper left eyelid on December 28-30 with no other symptoms. The eyelid retraction has resolved completely on its own around mid May. 2. shall I wait for the thyroid hormones to improve spontaneously (since this seems to be the trend) or shall I start taking anti-thyroid medication? 3.
Avatar n tn Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???
Avatar n tn one can stay below this threshold for years without triggering diagnosis- symptoms- fatigue constipation depression raised cholesterol(heart disease) brain fog apathy dry skin-eczema ARE ALL CAUSED BY IODINE DEFICIENCY. our bodies are designed to be eating fish all day. pls buy kelp or lugols iodine and spread the word. the recommended daily intake is too low-to keep people ill requiring medicines.
Avatar n tn 88. 3 years ago an Endocrino diagnosed symptoms of Graves Disease so he took me out the pill. I just had a baby on 02/22/2008, 2 months after I started to have all the thyroid symptoms again. I went to my pcp and she did some lab work. The results as follows TSI 101 Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 137 t-4 free 1.2 t3 free 303. she referred me to an endocrino.
Avatar n tn I have been going to an Endocrinologist for almost 1 year. He has done several ultrasounds showing that I have 5 tumors on my thyroid. I have a biopsy which showed they were benign. I recently had another ultrasound which showed one of the tumors had shrunk but another one appeared.
Avatar f tn I went for routine blood work. I was shocked w/ my results. My T4 Free was .79. However, my TSH was 9.950. I've been taking kelp and was wondering could that be the reason my TSH is so high?
Avatar f tn ok im an anorexic and i am currently taking zinc, potassium, calcium , magnesium, omega 3 and vitamin c d. I am about to start taking kelp pills, and was wondering what the risk or dangers would be to me. And are there any side effects to just taking them on thier own? I am just considering the dangers before i proceed with the pills. Any advice would be brilliant and much appreciated. Thanks.
