Avatar f tn I also have Graves disease and from my understanding you are never "cured", but, once your thyroid is either dead or you have it removed you should no longer be suffering from the symptoms. Except the protruding eyes, that is the only symptom that they can't reverse. That you are going to have to live with for the rest of your life. That's why it's so important to get treated before that happens. I would say that your tiredness is from being perimenopausal.
Avatar n tn s an autoimmune disease that unfortunately always plagues you in one shape or another even after the radiated iodine treatment. Since thyroid disease runs in my family, and I have borderline hyperthyroid tendencies, I always keep an eye on the thyroid board on MedHelp. The folks there are very knowledgeable. You may want to pop in there for some advice as well. Both diseases (FM and Graves symptoms overlap) Make sure you stop back in both places. Take care.
199177 tn?1490498534 My husband was diagnosed with graves disease this last week .He sees the endocrinologist Monday is there anybody that can help me understand this and are the partiular questions he needs to be asking the doctor .
Avatar f tn I want to ask your opinion on a book called GRAVES DISEASE practical guide by Elaine Moore. And were r you located??
Avatar f tn In the mid august I had my second visit with the endocrinologist who continued insisting with Graves disease. When I questioned her about the absence of Graves antibodies she responded that I had the abTG antibodies to confirm the diagnosis. Now, one month after my latest tests, I am confident I have entered hypothyroidism. I have been eating less, yet I have gained 2-3pounds in 10 days. I am sure it's water retention. I feel a bit tired. My last period came 4 days earlier than usual!
Avatar f tn Most people can tolerate at least 1000 mcg of iodine daily without adverse effects but those with autoimmune thyroid disease may tolerate less than this. Too much iodine produces a condition called iodine induced hyperthyroidism. So based on all this, you can experiment with how much iodine you can tolerate. If you want to eat more foods containing iodine, the look at reducing iodine in other ways.
Avatar f tn I really thought I was losing my mind, I have had this for about 4 yrs and just now was diagnosed with Graves disease. My Dr put me on Methimazole and after 3 weeks had a severe reaction and was covered head to toe with a horrible insanely itchy rash. Mr Endo told me I have a couple options radio active iodine or somthing else which he did not tell me what. My question is how has the radio active iodine worked for others?
Avatar f tn Looks like Graves' disease based on the significant elevation in T3 however to confirm this a TSI blood test or I-123 nuclear uptake would be required.
15915009 tn?1488868338 m 17 and was officially diagnosed with thyroid storm, which was linked to untreated graves disease just over 1 1/2 years ago. It has been misdiagnosed for ADHD around 4-5 years ago. I'm still on antithyroid pills to this day. I'm hoping to get off of them soon, but is it possible to have a relapse later in life after I have not been taken them, if Graves Disease will be with me for the rest of my life and if I need to get my blood checked every so often?
Avatar f tn its for Graves disease
16758124 tn?1451221777 This phenomenon is thus iodine-induced hyperthyroidism, typically presenting in a patient with endemic goiter (due to iodine deficiency), who relocate to an iodine-abundant geographical area. People who have Graves disease, toxic multinodular goiter, or various types of thyroid adenoma are also at risk of Jod-Basedow effect when they ingest extra iodine.
Avatar f tn Cardiac tests were OK but now my TSH level is running low. I do not have Graves Disease. Has anyone heard of iodine contrast causing thyroid storms?
Avatar m tn Hi, I was sent for a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) after my miscarriage. The HSG uses an iodine contrast dye that is injected into the uterus. My gyn is aware that I have Grave disease and am allergy to shellfish. I was euthyroid before the HSG procedure. 2 weeks after the HSG, my TSH decreased from 1.47 to 0.04. My Ft4 and Ft3 increase from mid range to the upper range. My question is does HSG trigger a new episode of grave disease?
Avatar f tn I have a question on the contrast that is used with CT Scans. I have/had ovarian cancer (OVCA) and typically have CT Scan's atleast annually. As I had tumours throughout my pelvis they use the IV contrast as well as the Barium gastro constrast. While talking with the endo's and being diagnosed with Graves disease they asked about any CT scans etc but I didn't think to ask them. Is the contrast used in the IV for CT Scans a problem for people with thyroid conditions?
405406 tn?1247428742 I do have graves disease. Other than that i really know nothing. I am to have an iodine uptake next week, will go from there. Thank you for your ans.
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with Graves Disease but my doctor cannot even feel my thyroid and although my levels are beyond the normal range they are not not off the charts. Is iodine radiation done regardless of the severity or non-severity in my case besides other treatment. I've tried Methimazole and broke out in hives about 3 weeks into it. I am freaked out about killing my thyroid and being tired and sluggish the rest of my life. I understand that is a primary symtom of hypothyroid.
Avatar f tn losing weight, itchy skin, heat sensitivity, heart palpitations, insomnia, light mentstrual cycle, Raynauds (numbness and tingling), plus it feels like I have a lump in my throat with trouble swallowing. The one symptom that has my doctor stumped is that I seem to be sensitive to a lot of foods now. My doctor doubts it's food allergies.
Avatar f tn I see that you have Graves Disease. Do you, also, have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Some people do have them both. Do you still have your thyroid? While some people do very well taking Iodine, it's not usually recommended for those of us with Hashimoto's, unless under the very strict supervision of your doctor. I'm not sure about Graves disease, but I'd not take iodine without doctor supervision, since most people get enough in the foods they eat, via the salt.
Avatar f tn m wondering if it is necessary to follow a two week low iodine diet before RAI for my graves disease. Researching on-line, it seems to be connected to RAI treatment for thyroid cancer, in which the patient is already hypothyroid, and the goal is to kill off any stray thyroid (cancer) cells. If my thyroid is hyperactive, do I really need to follow this diet?
7726696 tn?1393688452 Likely: Autoimmune disease (Graves disease). Treatment I think is usually medication. If that fails surgery or Radioactive Iodine treatment. Less likely: Thyroiditis. Thyroid inflammation, typically resolves over a few months. Not so likely: Benign hormone secreting tumor. Often called a hot nodule because it shows up strongly on radioactive iodine uptake test. Treatment is surgery. A doctor should be able to help you figure out what the cause is and what treatment is needed.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease by my primary physicain . I had to wait 3 months to see a specialist because of an HMO, and I also saw a private physician the same week. They each have different treatment recommendations. I am developing the hyperthyroid eye also. The first physician recommends thyroid scan and uptake and then the iodine treatment, with a prednisone taper for my eyes prior. He says I am slightly anemic so I should bypass the antithyroid medication.
