Avatar f tn thanks audrey for the advice and the link i will check out the site.i am just in a spin accepted the fact of the possible m.
Avatar f tn I have had Graves Disease for the past 15 years and have had many of the symptom associated with it, but recently I have started to have ringing in the ears, numbness on the left side of my face and a twitching left eyelid. Is this just a part of having Graves Disease or is this something else? If it is something else what could it be?
Avatar n tn i took the meds for about 2 months before stopping. my mother, who also has graves disease, wants me to continue the medication, but i'm reluctant. from all i've been told and researched there is a high likelihood of the hyperthyroidism recurring, even with the proper medication. so, this is my convoluted way of asking: 1. is hyperthyroidism defined by its symptoms? meaning, if my symptoms have decreased, am i somewhat better? (i know, i know, get bloodwork done...) 2.
15915009 tn?1488868338 I was wondering if I'm going to need any treatment in the future for Graves Disease. I've been on anti-thyroid pills for 1 1/2 now. How long is the average time to be on anti-thyroid pills and if I'm going to need RAI or thyroidectomy (which scare me) later in life?
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Graves Disease, I am scheduled for surgery but wonder if the leave half or part of the smallest side of the my gland, will that cure it, or will I be at risk of having to get yet another surgery?
Avatar n tn I believe the statistic is less than 50% of those who have Graves thyroid disease develop any symptoms of Graves Eye Disease. Each is caused by different sets of antibodies. Some people get eye disease without ever having thyroid problems. And, of those with Graves/thyroid who do develop eye disease, only about 5% of those ever develop serious enough eye problems (bulging, eyelid retraction, double vision, optic nerve issues) to warrant surgery.
Avatar n tn I have been going to an Endocrinologist for almost 1 year. He has done several ultrasounds showing that I have 5 tumors on my thyroid. I have a biopsy which showed they were benign. I recently had another ultrasound which showed one of the tumors had shrunk but another one appeared.
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune. While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages. You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.
1945565 tn?1330465775 You can wait until the need arises and then mention it. They do not need warning to make accomodations. I would not mention it in the workplace unless you have to. I did and got ousted. All of a sudden the writing I had been doing for months was no longer any good, and that is the 'reason' they gave for ousting me. My co-workers were great, it was just the bosses.
Avatar n tn When you say bloods I suspect that means you are in the UK. If that is the case, then you face some additional hurdles. So before I get into that, please confirm your location.
Avatar n tn The real answer for Graves and Hashimoto is what is causing the antibodies in the first place. We have had these discussions there in the past. The medical community seems to be happy with treating the symptoms and not looking for the causes - big pharma would lose money if many causes for disease were found. The leading thyroid association voice for Dr's is almost invisibly owned by the makers of Synthroid (hypo T4 med). So were srcewed from the start.
Avatar n tn I wish I could help you more. All i can say is that I had RAI and didn't stay hyper for very long after that. It was only one month and then I went hypo. I was only on beta blockers at that time to lesson the symptoms, no ATD's. (I was on tapazole before the RAI). In any case, will they perform the gallbladder surgery once you are hypo? The ATD's can have effect with white blood cells which is one reason why they are not recommended long term (in this country anyway.
Avatar n tn s an autoimmune disease that unfortunately always plagues you in one shape or another even after the radiated iodine treatment. Since thyroid disease runs in my family, and I have borderline hyperthyroid tendencies, I always keep an eye on the thyroid board on MedHelp. The folks there are very knowledgeable. You may want to pop in there for some advice as well. Both diseases (FM and Graves symptoms overlap) Make sure you stop back in both places. Take care.
Avatar f tn 339-50.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I was dx'd with Graves in March 2006. I have been on MMI(methimazole) for 2.8 yrs. I started off on 30 mgs. and went very very hypo right away. I have gained 38 pounds in 2.8 years and feel dreadful. When dx'd my TSI was 243 <129. My FT4 for was 1.86(.8-1.85) and FT3 was 2.60 <2.00. I really never had very high FT's. They have always stayed low but my TSH has been low forever. I think I have many blocking antibodies because of my TBII is 31% <16%.
Avatar f tn t feel it is necessary to go to a motel and consider that in depth. The cleaning staff will not clean appropriately becuase they do not know what you've been through and contimanation is an issue to others. You have the control to take care of everything in your enviroment without putting others in jepordy that have no clue what's just transipred. Consider that before making your final decision.
1314073 tn?1282841674 I was just diagnosed with Graves Disease. I've been doing reasearch on the Internet and now I am TERRIFIED! Are my eyes going to bulge and my hair fall out? Does this happen to everyone with Graves Disease. I know this sounds vain, but fear is fear and this is all I can think about. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Avatar n tn You have to be proactive and assertive with doctors about thyroid disease for some reason. The migraines, the pressure behind the eyes, the muscle weakness... they are all symptoms of Grave's and that could be all that's wrong with you... however, you MUST get a second opinion, and you'll probably need a third and fourth, too.
