Avatar n tn I have had steroids for my eyes and and tapazole nothing has worked. I have toxic nodoles along with Graves disease. I have changed my diet and tried different things what do you suggest. I'm not sleeping, I have gained most of my weight back with increased heart beat. What can I do.
Avatar f tn Graves Disease is an Autoimmune Disease and usually when one autoimmune disease is found, there is usually a 2nd one found (this one being Diabetes). The Graves and Hyperthyroidism can be treated by either anti-thyroid meds or pernmanant treatment which will eventually stablaise the Diabetes although this is extremely hard if the Diabetes has been undetected for a long time. And something to watch for is ...Metformin can interefer with thyroid medications.
Avatar f tn In the mid august I had my second visit with the endocrinologist who continued insisting with Graves disease. When I questioned her about the absence of Graves antibodies she responded that I had the abTG antibodies to confirm the diagnosis. Now, one month after my latest tests, I am confident I have entered hypothyroidism. I have been eating less, yet I have gained 2-3pounds in 10 days. I am sure it's water retention. I feel a bit tired. My last period came 4 days earlier than usual!
Avatar m tn Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease where the Graves Disease antibodies attack the persons thyroid causing hyperthyroidism (levels of FT3, FT4 too high and TSH too low. Left untreated it can be very dangerous. Get your Sister to see an Endocrinologist but in the meantime whilst waiting for an appointment, get her to her local Doctor to start treatment of anti-thyroid medications.
Avatar f tn This was the main reason I went to the doctor, when they found out I have Graves disease. I am on medication now, but my GP sad my ankles are swollen because I work as a chef and stand too much. My ankles got swollen when I wasn't working as a chef yet and I don't even work as a chef anymore. Is it possible that my ankles are swollen because of my thyroid imbalance? If so,what can I do to get rid of it or to make it less swollen.
Avatar n tn While Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism, not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease, because Hashimoto's, which is most often associated with hypothyroidism, is often characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism in the early stages and can even swing back and forth between hyper, hypo and normal.
Avatar n tn Elevated TPOab usually indicates Hashi's. While Hashi's ends up being hypo, it can be hyper in early stages or can swing back and forth from hypo to hyper. TPOab can be somewhat elevated with other autoimmune diseases as well, like Graves' disease. And, though it sounds a contradiction in terms, you can have both Hashi's and Graves' antibodies. Your FT4 looks really good. It's at 56% of range, which is just above the 50% guideline.
Avatar m tn Do you know if you have Graves Disease? Not all hyperthyroidism is caused by Graves. Do you know if you ANY autoimmune disease? An autoimmune disease is one in which antibodies attack and eventually destroy the thyroid gland. Hyperthyroidism is most often connected to Graves Disease, while hypothyroidism is generally connected to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. It is possible to have both Graves and Hashi's.
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune. While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages. You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and they did an antibody test to confirm Graves. The antibodies were positive therefore they have said it is Graves Disease ie not caused by a nodule but autoimmune. Does this test definitely rule out a nodule? I ask because I have MS and B12 deficiency which are autoimmune conditions. Would I not have tested positive for antibodies anyway because I have MS and B12? Im just worried they have missed something as they have not done a scan.
Avatar f tn My doctor won't diagnose me with graves disease but when reading message boards, people say anything over 2% is graves. If I have this, how can I cure it naturally? I can't take medication. TSI (Normal) 113 TSH 0.02 (Low) Range is (0.035 - 4.67) T3 Free 5.84 (high) Range is (1.45 - 3.48 ) T4 Free 2.00 (high) Range is (0.70 - 1.
Avatar m tn The symptoms of Graves Disease would be those of hyperthyroidism, such as sudden weight loss, sweating when others are comfortable to cool, diarrhea, hand tremors, heart palpitations (these can be present with hypothyroidism as well), rapid heart rate, irritability, mood swings, fatigue and many others.
Avatar f tn It's likely that you have Graves' disease. However, you should have a TSI (thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin) test to confirm this. TSI is the definitive test for Graves'. Sometimes Graves' can be managed with medication. Surgery and RAI are also options. Read all you can about Graves' and discuss which options are right for you with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Is TSH the only test your endo is ordering for you? If so, you might want to start looking for another. You should also have Free T3 and Free T4 tested every time TSH is tested. Have you had antibody tests to confirm/rule out Graves Disease and/or Hashimoto's? While Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism, not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease.
Avatar n tn Probably the next test would be the I-123 uptake/scan. Your are correct that this is subclinical hyperthyroidism and appears to be autoimmune in nature. This may be a transient thyroiditis (inflammation) or Graves' disease. In either case this needs to be confirmed and stabilized before trying for tendency.

877337 tn?1249844450 Graves' disease may present clinically with one of the following characteristic signs: * exophthalmos (protuberance of one or both eyes) * a non-pitting edema (pretibial myxedema), with thickening of the skin usually found on the lower extremities * fatigue, weight loss with increased appetite, and other symptoms of hyperthyroidism * rapid heart beats * muscular weakness The two signs that are truly 'diagnostic' of Graves' disease (i.e.
