Avatar m tn How were you treated for Graves Disease? Are you now hypo? Are you on thyroid replacement hormones? If so, which ones, what dosage and for how long have you been on it? It's possible that you need to increase your med dosage, if you aren't losing weight. Typically, when thyroid hormone levels are adequate weight will come off. If you have current labs you could post, that would be helpful for us.

I was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia. I also have severe osteoarthritis, especially in both hands. What am I doing wrong? The doctor told me I'm a very strange case. What's that mean?

Avatar m tn Selenium helps with thyroid inflammation so this may help with your throat symptoms. Also, in 2011 a study demonstrated that selenium supplementation (200 mcg per day) can slow the progression of eye disease and improve quality of life in patients with Graves' disease with mild ocular involvement (Graves' ophthalmopathy). In supplement form, the most bioavailable form of selenium is L selenomethionine.
Avatar f tn 140) Basically, the Endocrinologist told me my results mean I have both Graves Disease and Hashimotos. She is sending me for a uptake/scan and ultrasound of my Thyroid in a month and then I follow up with her in a month and a half. In the meantime I am trying to research these autoimmune disorders and feel overwhelmed. I am confused that I have BOTH, and that I feel lethargic and am experiencing weight gain with a TSH level of 0.00.
199177 tn?1490498534 My husband was diagnosed with graves disease this last week .He sees the endocrinologist Monday is there anybody that can help me understand this and are the partiular questions he needs to be asking the doctor .
Avatar n tn I have been going to an Endocrinologist for almost 1 year. He has done several ultrasounds showing that I have 5 tumors on my thyroid. I have a biopsy which showed they were benign. I recently had another ultrasound which showed one of the tumors had shrunk but another one appeared.
Avatar f tn Graves Disease is an Autoimmune Disease and usually when one autoimmune disease is found, there is usually a 2nd one found (this one being Diabetes). The Graves and Hyperthyroidism can be treated by either anti-thyroid meds or pernmanant treatment which will eventually stablaise the Diabetes although this is extremely hard if the Diabetes has been undetected for a long time. And something to watch for is ...Metformin can interefer with thyroid medications.
Avatar f tn losing weight, itchy skin, heat sensitivity, heart palpitations, insomnia, light mentstrual cycle, Raynauds (numbness and tingling), plus it feels like I have a lump in my throat with trouble swallowing. The one symptom that has my doctor stumped is that I seem to be sensitive to a lot of foods now. My doctor doubts it's food allergies.
Avatar n tn i am confused and wonder if someone might help me sort this out. I eat gluten free diet (as have been diagnosed celiac by high tTg back 6 years ago.) I am very watchful. I have high antithyroglobulin 173 (<60 is normal) and may TSP is 3.36 (they say normal but I see under 2 as preferred). My free T3 is normal 1.07 (normal .7-1.8) free T4 3.36 (normal .4-4) thyroid perox. AB 57 (normal less than 60) I am puzzled by high folate numbers 17.8(normal 2.8-17) and very high iodine 280.
Avatar f tn I see that you have Graves Disease. Do you, also, have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Some people do have them both. Do you still have your thyroid? While some people do very well taking Iodine, it's not usually recommended for those of us with Hashimoto's, unless under the very strict supervision of your doctor. I'm not sure about Graves disease, but I'd not take iodine without doctor supervision, since most people get enough in the foods they eat, via the salt.
Avatar m tn Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease where the Graves Disease antibodies attack the persons thyroid causing hyperthyroidism (levels of FT3, FT4 too high and TSH too low. Left untreated it can be very dangerous. Get your Sister to see an Endocrinologist but in the meantime whilst waiting for an appointment, get her to her local Doctor to start treatment of anti-thyroid medications.
558632 tn?1303471125 My question is, while undergoing treatment for graves, is there a diet that helps? i have tried to lose to no avail. was going to try the atkins next? is it a no lose situation until i am either regulated or undergo RAI or a thyroidectomy? has anyone lose weight that is gaining with graves (instead of losing), or should i just watch what i eat deal with the 20 lbs gained and counting and wait until remiss, or one of the above.
877337 tn?1249844450 My husband and I are trying to loose weight. I have Graves and am struggling. We have reduced our portions, gone on a low-fat, low-carb diet. We have switched to whole grains/wheat and drinking water or green tea. I may have lost a pound or two but thats it. Do you have any suggestions? We are genuinely trying. Can somebody suggest a diet plan or site that might help? Thanks for your time.
Avatar n tn I have been on 5mg of tapozole for 3-4 years after being diagnose with Graves Disease assosiated with hyperthyroidism and have gain 55lbs. What is wrong with me, I eat small portions with a modified diet?
Avatar m tn s wise to eat junk all day, but what I am saying is that when you rely solely on diet/supplements this diesease will be much harder to manage, especially if you have a day where you feel like sneaking the coookie out of the cookie jar. ATD'S are not evil, give them a chance.
Avatar m tn Sounds like your girlfriend might have an autoimmune disease called Graves Disease. I'd have to know what blood tests she had in order to know whether she was tested adequately or not.. Graves Disease causes hyperthyroidism, whose primary symptom is weight loss. Another possibility is diabetes, but it would depend on how long she's had the weight loss issue. If it's very long, she'd have other symptoms of diabetes.
