Common Questions and Answers about Graves disease and vitamin d

graves-disease

Avatar n tn s disease, then still not feeling well, and finally diagnosed with graves disease and vitamin D deficiency. Then came Graves eye disease, not severe and under control. So yes have levels checked, I had only TSH checked in Feb of last year, and it came back in normal range, when i had my physical my tsh was 0.00 so they tested T3 and T4 and they were not normal. Good luck, it is a slow process, and i get depressed about it often, it is not a disease with an easy cure, it is a long battle.
Avatar f tn Most people do better with B12 in the upper part of its range, Vitamin D around the middle of its range, and ferritin around 80 for women. Have you been tested for Vitamin D and ferritin? Also, I recall previous posts from you. Have you been tested for Free T3 and Free T4? Please post here any additional results, along with their ranges.
16758124 tn?1451221777 I'm not sure what your actual question is... Do you have results of thyroid hormone tests that you could post so we can see what your actual hormone levels were when you were hyper, hypo and now, when you're back to normal? Be sure to post reference ranges with all results since ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own reports. Also not sure what your "high dose of Vitamin CD is"... What dose of iodine did you take and for how long?
Avatar f tn I have had high potassium levels , low B12 and low Vitamin D. I currently take a vitamin B12 pill, but once i ran out of my vit d prescription she did not feel i needed anymore. She did not say anything about what to do about my potassium level. I have no appetite whatsoever, I use to crave salty foods, now that does not appeal to me any longer. NO i do not have a problem eating, if i were hungry i would eat, but the appetite is just not there anymore.
Avatar f tn Anyway I guess my question is does anyone else suffer from Graves and Vit D Def and do they feel the same way. How long did it take to feel any better? Or is this still Graves and what I have to deal with for the rest of my life? I should mention I am on 2.5mg Tapazole everyday. I don't want to do surgery or RAI in case there is some miracle cure in the next few years. I'm just so depressed because I thought I would feel better by now with the Graves.
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.
Avatar n tn I had graves disease, but I never suffered from vertigo, just the low B12 and Vit D.
Avatar f tn Since you are limited in resources for testing I would start with Free T4 and Free T3, and Vitamin D and ferritin. When you have additional test results please post here and we will be happy to help interpret and advise further.
2079117 tn?1332020390 Your vitamin D is very low - did your doctor suggest a supplement dose? The link between vitamin D and autoimmune disease is simply that a lot of people with autoimmunes, have low vitamin D. No, your TSI will not decrease from taking Vitamin D....... it will decrease when your autoimmune goes into remission (no more healthy tissue for the antibodies to chomp on). That said, vitamin D deficiency can cause hypothyroid symptoms and some symptoms cross over from hyper to hypo.
Avatar n tn m not sure how long I have had this illness, I have complained about these symptoms for many years and was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and vitamin d deficiency among other things. It wasn't until I recently changed Dr's that I was checked for thyroid. Please don't give up, I pray you soon find the answers to sickness.

Avatar n tn ve had alot of the symptoms associated with hyperthyroidism for a while and have asked my doctor to check my tsh, t3, and t4 levels in the last couple of years but he always tells me they are in normal range but this time I also have low vitamin d despite taking 5000 iu vitamin d-3 several times a week. Does anyone with similar levels have hyperthyroidism? t-3 uptake 47.8 32-48.4 t4 8.79 4.5-11.
Avatar f tn Vitamin D3 is made in the skin when 7-dehydrocholesterol absorbs UVB ultraviolet light at wavelengths between 270 - 300 nm * Kidney and liver disease - vitamin D is processed (metabolized) by the liver and kidneys into an active form of vitamin D * Hashimoto's Thyroiditis - genetic defects in the receptor site for vitamin D. More vitamin D is needed than the average person * Parathyroid conditions (parathyroid - glands in front of the thyroid).
Avatar f tn I forgot to add that my family dr dx me with Graves disease about 2 1/2 years ago and has me on PTU and propranolol. I now am dealing with a nutritionist to try and help me lose weight, part of her treatment was to get new labs done. She is still waiting on the Results of my TSH receptor antibody test. She thinks that I may have both graves and Hashimotos but isnt sure yet.
4852898 tn?1360039862 Optimal calcium absorption occurs with a vitamin D level greater than 79.8 nmol/L (32 ng/mL). Optimal disease prevention (vitamin D deficiency is highly linked to numerous diseases including cancer) at a minimum of 125 nmol/L (50 ng/mL).
Avatar f tn My endo checked my vitamin D level and it was 9 so he put me on 50,000 IU of D once a week. Since i have been on the vitamin D (6 weeks) my cramps are worse and now i have muscle and joint pain all the time. It seems like everything on my body hurts and after weeks of pain i am really in a MOOD!! I was wondering if vitamin D causes these symptoms and if there is anything that i can do to make things better, faster.
Avatar m tn In addition, the tissue response to thyroid hormone is affected by a number of variables including Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin, so you should make sure to get those tested and supplement as needed to optimize. D should be at least 50 ng/mL, B12 in the upper end of its range, adn ferritin should be at least 100. So please keep this info handy as a reference for discussion with your doctor, in order to try and get the treatment that will be needed.
Avatar f tn I have started on a calcium plus (including essential minerals and vitamin D) and also a multivitamin. I have also started resistance aerobic exercise as I am determined to reduce my risks of muscle wastage and bone loss. I had already had difficulties getting off the floor due to leg weakness and I am 44 y.o.
Avatar f tn Hypercalcemia can also occur if you have excess thyroid hormone and Vitamin D can increase the symptom as more calcium get absorbed due to increased Vitamin D activation. So check your Free T3, Free T4 and TSH values. Anything close to high end of reference range (for TSH lower end) is abnormal. Also worth to rule out hyperparathyroidism by doing serum calcium and PTH together. In such cases taking Vitamin D aggravate the symptoms.
552173 tn?1282603290 Although there could be other contributing factors, if you are inside all the time you are definately not getting the Vitamin D you need that we all get from sunlight. You can have you Vitamin D levels checked but they are a definate immediate relation to energy levels. There is a book "The Vitamin D Cure" you can read, see your doctor, read on the internet.
Avatar f tn I have a family history of hyperthyroid disease/ graves (my mum) and hypothyroidism ( my mums mum)- and 1 case of thyroid cancer (my dads grandmother) I myself have been diagnosed with a goitre diffuse with a nodule just under 2cm.
Avatar f tn I am on a methylfolated b complex vitamin and 10,000 IU of Vitamin D3 daily because my Vitamin D level was very low. I don't have any symptoms anymore, I was having things like throat tightness, fast heart rate of 119 BPM (up from 65 normal) and I was losing 16lbs / month before I went on the anti-cancer diet and took the supplements and vitamins. I was also on thyrosoothe which I've read to be very helpful but people overdose on it and go hypo.
