Avatar f tn "Chronic urticaria may also be associated with a leukocytoclastic (white blood cell-mediated) vasculitis confined to skin or to a wider area of connective tissue. Palpable purpura (small purplish bruises) and urticaria of long duration are typically seen in urticarial vasculitis. Urticarial vasculitis often occurs in systemic lupus, polymyositis, mixed cryoglobulinemia, and Sjogren’s disease and tends to be associated with low levels of C1q.
623944 tn?1244035490 The researchers also believe that for some patients with chronic urticaria, there is a link to autoimmune disease, and in particular, thyroid disease, as a significant percentage of patients with urticaria also have high levels of antithyroid antibody, even though they may not have clinical thyroid disease." And this from http://autoimmunedisease.suite101.com/article.
Avatar f tn Studies report that as many as 57.4% of patients with hives (urticaria) have the presence of thyroid antibodies. "In conditions of chronic urticaria, thyroid antibodies are not only indicators of chronic inflammation, but they appear to play a role in the disease process. In most cases, improvement of urticaria with thyroxine replacement hormone suggests that chronic thyroid inflammation may initiate a hypersensitivity reaction and an underlying thyroid hormone deficiency.
Avatar f tn "As with any medication, Synthroid can also cause allergic reactions. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, including: An unexplained rash Hives Itching Unexplained swelling (especially of the lips, mouth, or throat)." *** Studies report that as many as 57.4% of patients with hives (urticaria) have the presence of thyroid antibodies.
Avatar f tn I came back to being allergic to nothing. We also did a blood tests for my thyroid, cancer, graves disease, and various other diseases. My thyroid levels came back normal but my auto antibodies came back high, over 400. The allergist said that its something we'll just have to monitor, watch my levels, and do 'a step by step' with drugs. Right now she has me on Allegra in the morning, Montelukast Sodium 10mg in the afternoon, and Zyrtec at night. It seems to keep the hives at bay.
Avatar f tn Studies report that as many as 57.4% of patients with urticaria have the presence of thyroid antibodies. Thyroid panel tests include: TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), free T3, free T4, thyroid antibodies - thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), and thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb). "In conditions of chronic urticaria, thyroid antibodies are not only indicators of chronic inflammation, but they appear to play a role in the disease process.
Avatar f tn , which was supposedly related to having taken diclofenac (I’m allergic to all pain killers). I had hives and urticaria in my body and swelling of my lips and throat also. I was even hospitalized two days so they could get the swelling down with steroids.

Avatar n tn You may have Autoimmune Chronic Urticaria. I have Graves Disease and had my Thyroid surgically removed 26 yrs ago. I also have Autoimmune Chronic Urticaria. I've learned that About 50% of people with ICU (Immune Chronic Urticaria) also have Autoimmune Thyroid disease i.e, Graves or Hashimotos. If you have either Graves or Hashimotos Thyroid disorder, then your Hives are likely to be Autoimmune related and not from any specific allergy.
1428646 tn?1330978063 graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster. I was on medication for about 2 years. then it went into remission now it is back. graves disease could attack any organ , graves disease is your immune system attacks your organs not virus or bacteria.
1470343 tn?1316638624 Hope this is of some help to you.... Thyroglobulin Antibodies / Antithyroglobulin Antibodies Testing for thyroglobulin antibodies (also called antithyroglobulin antibodies) is common. If you have already been diagnosed with Graves' disease, having high levels of thyroglobulin antibodies means that you are more likely to eventually become hypothyroid. Thyroglobulin antibodies are positive in about 60 percent of Hashimoto's patients and 30 percent of Graves' patients.
Avatar n tn ve hard a series of blood tests and everything was considered OK. Doctors have been giving me anti histamines and itching relief creams but the problem still persists. Please help me.
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
Avatar n tn I have graves disease, but was in remission. Then I had cancer and chemotherapy. My TSH level is hyper again and my other tests normal. The doctors won't say if chemo can activate your graves disease. They do say that a physical or emotional change to my body can trigger it. My thoughts, Cancer and chemotherapy are big time physical and emotional changes.
Avatar f tn 19 year old son was getting hives mainly at night. Diagnosed with Graves disease a couple weeks ago and on meds now. is this normal with graves?
Avatar f tn They have removed me off of my medicine one time to see if my Graves disease had went into remission and within two months it came back with TSH levels of 0.003...basically non-existant TSH levels. They put me back on my 10mg Methmazole and within 3 weeks my levels were normal. That is pretty much a health summary of my graves disease for the past five-six years lol.
Avatar m tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Gravesand Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease." *** I've had both Hashi's and Graves antibodies simultaneously but I had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis previously.
Avatar n tn Can you have graves disease so bad that it would seem like bipolar and I thought Graves disease was an overactive thyroid, so how can you be hypro?
Avatar f tn Graves Disease is an Autoimmune Disease and usually when one autoimmune disease is found, there is usually a 2nd one found (this one being Diabetes). The Graves and Hyperthyroidism can be treated by either anti-thyroid meds or pernmanant treatment which will eventually stablaise the Diabetes although this is extremely hard if the Diabetes has been undetected for a long time. And something to watch for is ...Metformin can interefer with thyroid medications.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with Graves Disease which is an autoimmune disease associated with ur thyroid. I have noticed that I'm needing more pain meds than normal to relieve my pain. My question is, does this disease affect the relief I am supposed 2 be receiving from my normal dose? Basically, does my pain meds need to be increased or does my thyroid affect the digestion process of the meds?
Avatar f tn However, I am currently euthyroid and not taking any medication and I get hives every other week. I was told that the hives are just another symptom of the Graves and Hashi, as I am in autoimmune overload. I also bruise easily due to the diseases. I am curious if your hives and bruising is due to the meds or just thyroid disease.
