877337 tn?1249844450 Graves' disease may present clinically with one of the following characteristic signs: * exophthalmos (protuberance of one or both eyes) * a non-pitting edema (pretibial myxedema), with thickening of the skin usually found on the lower extremities * fatigue, weight loss with increased appetite, and other symptoms of hyperthyroidism * rapid heart beats * muscular weakness The two signs that are truly 'diagnostic' of Graves' disease (i.e.
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.
Avatar f tn They have removed me off of my medicine one time to see if my Graves disease had went into remission and within two months it came back with TSH levels of 0.003...basically non-existant TSH levels. They put me back on my 10mg Methmazole and within 3 weeks my levels were normal. That is pretty much a health summary of my graves disease for the past five-six years lol.
Avatar f tn Looks like Graves' disease based on the significant elevation in T3 however to confirm this a TSI blood test or I-123 nuclear uptake would be required.
Avatar f tn Hello My daughter is 26yrs old and is pregnant and found out she has Graves disease. I am going crazy, I've never been Depress I am so sad she lost weight .. She just starting to do testts for this and that.
Avatar m tn Her OBGYN tested it again in November and reported her TSH as 0.01. She went and saw and endo early in December and her lab results came in: TSH 0.04 (0.34-4.20) Free T3 3.92 (2.3-4.4) Free T4 - 1.18 (.61-1.40) Thyroglobulin Antibody - 52.7 (<4) TPO Antibody - 28.9 (<9) Thyrotropin Receptor Ab - 4.43 (0-1.75) Thyroid Stim Immunoglobulin - 285% (0-139) Normal sedimentation rate and all other blood test. Ultrasound was good, no issues besides minor enlargement.
Avatar m tn This explains why Graves’ patients with very high TSI levels can have mild symptoms and Graves’ patients with moderate TSI levels can have severe symptoms. It’s suspected that there are several subtypes of TSI. Presumably, these subtypes determine the type of epitopes or binding sites on the TSH receptor that TSI can bind to. TSI may bind to epitopes that result in stimulation of thyroid cells or they may bind to epitopes that are less potent.
Avatar f tn I have copies of past blood work from before I was having problems with Graves disease symptoms and my TSH seemed okay for me between 1.7 to 2.5. I know at those times I felt fine; my only issue was when my TSH was 2.5 or higher that my cholesterol levels (LDL) were out of range. TSH over 2.5 for me I always had hypothyroid symptoms in the past. I appreciate any input on this subject as I am hearing some endocrinologists in this country are now saying TSH should not be higher that 1.
Avatar n tn s disease, then still not feeling well, and finally diagnosed with graves disease and vitamin D deficiency. Then came Graves eye disease, not severe and under control. So yes have levels checked, I had only TSH checked in Feb of last year, and it came back in normal range, when i had my physical my tsh was 0.00 so they tested T3 and T4 and they were not normal. Good luck, it is a slow process, and i get depressed about it often, it is not a disease with an easy cure, it is a long battle.
Avatar n tn Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???
Avatar f tn hi i'm a 28 yr old woman and have suffered badly with symptoms from graves disease for 3yrs i've been on propylthiouracil for a year now as i had a severe allergic reaction to carbimazole! my symptoms include insomnia, severe fatigue, anxiety, bouts of depression, poor concentration, memory loss, bruising easily, dizziness, nausea and graves rage and weakened immune system (sick often). the problem is that i've recently had a blood test that read normal at 5.
Avatar f tn I was then placed on Propylthiouracil to help this. After 2 months, my levels were rechecked and the TSH was 13. I was told that i was hypothyroid. I have been tested every month since that time and my levels go from to high to too low. Doctors kept putting me on synthroid and then taking me off when it couldn't be adjusted properly. 2 months ago my TSH level was once again .01 and the doctor said I was hyperthyroid and took me off of synthroid again.
Avatar m tn I have Graves disease so my thyroid is all messed up. I was diagnosed in 2015 at 16 with TSH levels at about 420. I went into remission for the last 2 years after taking Methimazole but my thyroid levels have reached over 200 so I'm taking a radioactive iodine pill in the fall before I go back to college. From my understanding being on no medication after the thyroid has been stopped can be the reason for your exhaustion. Your thyroid is directly related to your heart.
Avatar f tn Can you post your sons original FT3/FT4 , TSH levels and also does the lab sheet show the TSI test? Your son is on a low dose of anti-thyroid med so I am guessing that his levels arent too high at present.
Avatar f tn TSH and T4 are much more important in this case than T3 (not necessary to measure and we don't treat w/T3 when pregnant or trying to conceive). Antibodies are associated w/ infertility/miscarriage. If you had Graves' and become pregnant, test TSI levels about week 24-26. TSH goal for now is low-normal range.
15915009 tn?1488868338 You must insist on antibody tests to find out what you actually have. TSI for Graves Disease and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOab) and Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb) to diagnose Hashimoto's... Must have all three or your diagnosis may be incorrect.
Avatar n tn I had the same thing, but I was tested for pituitary disease, and it came back negative. They are treating me for Graves Disease even though my T4 is not high. I must admit I am feeling much better. Hope you get a solution soon!
Avatar f tn My stepmother was finally diagnosed after taking a year and a half off from work and being sick for about 2 years and it turns out she was diagnosed with Graves disease. I never heard of it. I looked it up online but it doesn't seem like something that would need that much time off and I was wondering if she could have another type of disorder/disease that is being labelled as Graves disease just because doctors are too lazy to find out what's really wrong.
Avatar f tn Your sister could be suffering from Psychosis due to overactive/underactive thryroid levels and a symptom of Graves Disease is anxiety, depression, paranoia. Your sister is placing a great strain on her health, her organs by not being treated properly and if her levels go too high, she could end up with a heart attack. Try and talk her into going back to her Doctor. All the while her Graves Disease is not being treated properly.....
Avatar f tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Gravesand Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease 11 years ago. My endo prescribed Methimazole, which I was allergic to, so he told me he didn't want to prescribe me anything else because sometimes the allergy kills the thyroid. It apparently did, because all of a sudden I was hypo and I had to go on synthroid. Since then, I lost my health insurance and got handled by my PCP instead of the endo (cheaper).
