Avatar f tn I am on medication now, but my GP sad my ankles are swollen because I work as a chef and stand too much. My ankles got swollen when I wasn't working as a chef yet and I don't even work as a chef anymore. Is it possible that my ankles are swollen because of my thyroid imbalance? If so,what can I do to get rid of it or to make it less swollen. It is really annoying, especially now that summer's coming. I don't feel good in open shoes. Is it ever gonna be the same?
620695 tn?1221490231 Nothing about this roller coaster has been text book for me. Originally I had extremely swollen feet and ankles when I went hypo. They put me on 75mcg of Synthroid & I started plaining out within 3 weeks. Then about a month later, I started having horrible headaches, 0 energy, my hair started falling out in clumps and all around my eyes were swelling - a lot. Another blood test and they bumped my Synthroid up to 100mcg.
Avatar n tn Thyroid disease and now Graves disease. Had it been diagnosed earlier and treated promptly I probably would have a better quality of life. Please go to another Doctor and get the help you need.
2039375 tn?1384319176 lately my legs and ankles have been swollen and I know I have gained some weight but I am not sure if that's what is causing it does anyone know what could cause my legs and ankles to be swelled up?
Avatar f tn I also have Graves disease and from my understanding you are never "cured", but, once your thyroid is either dead or you have it removed you should no longer be suffering from the symptoms. Except the protruding eyes, that is the only symptom that they can't reverse. That you are going to have to live with for the rest of your life. That's why it's so important to get treated before that happens. I would say that your tiredness is from being perimenopausal.
Avatar f tn She also tested + for a past EBV at 4 yo. and spleen was swollen. She also has excema, mainly on ankles, elbow pits and underneath eyes. She is otherwise healthy, bringing home strep and etc. from school. What am I missing? I would prefer she be taking natural T3/T4, but it is very hard to find any dr./endo that will treat children. Thank you for your time!
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone else ever had these symptoms. Oh, and in the morning when I get out of bed and walk my ankles feel like they are burning, on fire.
Avatar m tn Hello, I had hyperthyroid a couple of years back and been treated with radio active iodine medication in september 2010. And looking at my swolen eyes the doctor said I have graves disease. Since november 2010 my thyroid conditions have changed and I now have hypothyroid. Ever since the transformation of thyroid levels I have gained almost like 20 pounds of weight. Along with that I was having swollen temples when the weather is cold, if i eat anything hard or if i get a bit excited.
Avatar n tn I would suggest that you see a rheumatologist and have a thorough evaluation done.
Avatar f tn Here's an interesting discussion of some years back on this question-------- http://www.medhelp.

Avatar n tn symptom for my daughter who is 9 and born without a thyroid gland. Especially the ankles and feet! You are probably under treated with your medication. Post your labs when you get them w/ the refference ranges. Please insist on freet3 and freet4 being teasted along with the TSH.
Avatar f tn Hi Mr.LUPO . I'm so happy you reply to me, thank you!! I have graves disease. When i first began my treatment i was taken 10 pills of 10mg each a day, but that's when i start having the muscle pain, the alkaline low and other one i can't remember the name, but i know it had to do with the liver, which showed it was high. When i went to the 2nd specialist he told me i was hypo.
615166 tn?1282303497 My feet, ankles and lower legs tend to swell most days, especially if I'm up on my feet all day (at work for example). But the doctor isn't concerned. I puff up all day and piddle all night. Perhaps it's just my old blood vessels aren't working as well as they used to. Don't have varicose veins so who knows? I follow a low sodium diet just because it's the smart thing to do. Also learned more about it when my Dad was diagnosed with heart failure. Wanted to support him.
408795 tn?1324935675 I've been having major problems with swollen ankles over and over. I am on a salt free diet and I eat as healthy as I possibly can. Does anyone else have the symptom of swelling and what do you do about it? My concern is that the area that swells is getting larger. One day last week my legs were swollen all the way up to my knees.
Avatar n tn I am 24 and diagnosed with severe Graves last year. On Methimazole and last TSH 2.1. I woke up yesterday with eyes bloodshot, gritty, painful and eyelids swollen. I don't think I have had the bug eyes that I read about with Graves. This has happened periodically and at first I thought it was my contacts but I did not have them in the night before. I know this condition is connected with Graves but is there any treatment? I am miserable.
Avatar m tn My sons boss has recently been having issues like swollen ankles, knees and now wrists. He just doesn't feel well. He can't drive or stand long. He has seen so many doctors and has had so many tests done and they done know whats wrong with him. I've read another post on here about gluten that could be the problem. Can you help?
Avatar n tn I've had type I for 30 yrs (since I was 8---you do the math! ;) I've never had trouble w/swollen feet til a few months ago. It's not constant, but when it gets bad, it's as bad as previously described. I've been on an insulin pump since Nov 2004 and so my sugars have been pretty good. I take a low preventative dose of Cozaar for my kidneys. I've never had kidney problems, either.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor because my feet and ankles are very swollen, especially the left ones. I also had concerns about the fact that I have real bad fatigue. These symptoms have never happen to me before. My doctoe was too busy and concentrated on a whole other problem and said she only had time for one issue. I did, however, tell her my symptoms anyway and she was very unconcerned and wants to send me for a sleep test. She did no tests and didnt even look at my ankles and feet.
Avatar m tn You might get checked to see if you have peripheral vascular disease. This disease of blood vessels where plaque formation happens and blocks off blood flow, causing a lack of oxygen to tissues can cause pain when walking. They can check on this with seeing if you have strong pulses in your legs and feet (pedal pulses), normal leg blood pressure and using a doppler to check on blood flow in your lower extremities.
Avatar m tn s now Thursday morning, ankles are still swollen and painful, but not as bad as Tuesday. I am 55 years old, have had chronic neck (stenosis) and back pain for years, and occasionally get aching joints after unusual physical activity, but have never experienced anything quite like this. My questions: What is this? Could it be gout (does it come on this suddenly)? Will I place myself at risk if I wait until next week, when I'm back at home, to see a doctor?
Avatar f tn I actually started having my ankles and calves swell everyday when my mono came back and my thyroid went out of wack because of it. I can tell you it took me three years initially to get a diagnosis for hypothyroidism because they kept telling me my thyroid was in the "normal" range- turns out it wasn't but they were going by the old normal and it was just at the top so they thought I was okay.
