Graves disease and sore throat

Common Questions and Answers about Graves disease and sore throat

graves-disease

Avatar f tn Elaine Moore tends to believe that immunotherapy (allergy shots) makes Graves Disease worse, and can possibly bring on the Graves Eye Disease. She recommends that allergies be treated with the cortisone-type nose sprays and antihistimines instead, because of the nature of an autoimmune disease. I was about to start shots, but now I am reconsidering. Does anyone have information on this subject? Thanks!
Avatar n tn I've had a very sore throat for more than 5 weeks now. My tongue is also sore. My throat is frequently making squishing, gurgling and bubbling noises. There is always the sensation that something is stuck in my throat. I feel indigestion and discomfort after meals. I'm very worried that it can be soemthing really serious. I was diagnosed with acid reflux in 2008 when I had a slight sore throat that didn't go away and was prescribed with omeprazole.
Avatar n tn I have graves disease, but was in remission. Then I had cancer and chemotherapy. My TSH level is hyper again and my other tests normal. The doctors won't say if chemo can activate your graves disease. They do say that a physical or emotional change to my body can trigger it. My thoughts, Cancer and chemotherapy are big time physical and emotional changes.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
20315163 tn?1494892428 I also started to have a sore throat, so I stopped taking the meds and called my Endo. He wasnt please with me that I didnt come see home sooner but sent me a work order to do more blood work. On April 3rd, I went and had some blood drawn. A few days later, my thyroid blood work came back abnormal. This time, they were higher than they were before. The results are as follows T3, Total Range = 87 - 190 ng/dL. Results = 281 ng/dL Free Thyroxine Range = 0.60 - 1.80 ng/dL. Results = 2.
Avatar m tn Graves' would show up on FT3, FT4 and TSH. FT3 and FT4 would be high, and TSH is usually non-existent. That's because the TSI antibodies have taken over the job of TSH. So, Those three tests will show if you are hyper or not. TSI pins down the cause, i.e. autoimmune Graves' disease. There are other causes for hyper.
Avatar f tn It means your thyroid gland..umm lobe lol hates you. Dr Lupo mentions this on one of his medhelp answers... "About 1 in 2000 people are born with only one thyroid lobe --- and usually it's the left that is missing. It does not usually alter thyroid function." Who needs a left lobe anyway eh? Your right thyroid lobe is not amused as it's doing all the work. :) A normal sized thyroid lobe is about 7 to 11 cc (I believe that is equivalent to ml) per lobe.
Avatar m tn What can be done to resolve graves? My husband was diagnosed with text book Graves in August 2013. Massive weight loss, tremors, diarrhea, tiredness, agitation, sweating, low sex drive, joint pain, fast irregular heartbeat, body temp hot to the touch. The most prominent is his eyes are bulging so badly he couldn't close his eyes in the shower to keep the soap out. He was a cat on a hot tin roof. He is seeing an endo who checks his blood monthly and has done no other tests.
Avatar n tn Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???
Avatar m tn Selenium helps with thyroid inflammation so this may help with your throat symptoms. Also, in 2011 a study demonstrated that selenium supplementation (200 mcg per day) can slow the progression of eye disease and improve quality of life in patients with Graves' disease with mild ocular involvement (Graves' ophthalmopathy). In supplement form, the most bioavailable form of selenium is L selenomethionine.
Avatar n tn Can you have graves disease so bad that it would seem like bipolar and I thought Graves disease was an overactive thyroid, so how can you be hypro?
Avatar f tn We had no idea what was causing the problem for a long time. IF you develop a sore throat and/or low grade fever, tell your doc right away!
Avatar n tn Hi, I have Graves and Graves ophthalmology. I’ve been on methiizole for 2 years and recently dose increased 10mg and I became hypo, developed large goiter quickly that is pushing my esophagus among other things. Went off methimizole, swelling went away 90%. Doctor put me on Atenelol since refuse methimizole until my thyroidectomy upcoming as I’m not mildly hyper again. I am aching all over, my eyes seem worse, my ribs are sore, intermittent headach, face breaking out, weak muscles.
Avatar n tn My 4 yr old son was diagnosed with Graves' disease in Sep 07. PTU and Atenolol were started immediately. He has responded to both medications (Atenolol was discontinued in Dec 07). However, TSH levels are still below normal level. T3/T4 have been within normal range since Jan 08 but are fluctuating with dosage changes. My son complains of joint, shin and back pain periodically. He has excessive height compared to kids his age (4 inches above 100th percentile for his age).
199177 tn?1490498534 symptoms hot all of the time ,thinning hair, thirsty and hungry far more then normal, urinating and diarrhea alot .20+ weight loss and he only started at 170,moodiness.His eyes are puffy but not the doctor said the eye was in normal range I do think he think this is a big deal at all. From what I know this is not an easy thing to go threw .
Avatar n tn 56-year-old female here dx'd with Graves disease and resultant HTN. I've been on propanolol and methimazole since last October. Now I'm only taking 5 mgs daily of methimazole and am probably only paranoid about having a reduced white blood cell count. The last week I've been fatigued again, starting having sore gums a few days ago, and tonight I went to an Urgent Care for a nasty, painful patch of cellulitis on my lower buttock.
Avatar n tn What are the results of your most recent thyroid blood tests? Please post them and be sure to include reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report. Have you been tested for either Graves Disease or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism, but not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease. The definitive test for Graves Disease is Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin.
Avatar n tn t go away, hoarsness at times, the feeling of being strangled, earaches, sore throat. I feel hyper in the morning and qite exhausted at night. Also I have neck pain and swollen tissue surrounding the area. Maybe this sounds serious but could I just have a serious infection and that the hyper thyroidism needs to be treated with synthroid?. I guess I'm too hyper waiting to get these tests done...any info is helpful...thank you....
Avatar f tn I have the anti-microsomal antibody,anti-thyroid peroxidase and anti thyyroglobulin and suffer with Graves Disease. The best thing would be to see an Endocrinologist but I would've thought your Doctor wouldve known the outcome of your Labs.It is possible to have BOTH autoimmune diseases. Both blocking and stimulating antibodies. An ultrasound and uptake scan confirmed the Graves diagnosis also my sister has Graves too.
Avatar n tn My mother has graves disease and had 8 surgeries on her eyes due to exothalmus. She has gained nearly 100 pounds since they killed her thyroid. She was 90 lbs until she was diagnosed and treated. Now she has diabetes to boot. I sincerely have my reservations about that radioactive iodine. It is probably premature as I just had the sonogram of my thyroid. I could see holes in the scan and they were measuring 2 cm etc. ... several of them which suggested to me they were multinodular.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with graves disease abouit 6 years ago and have thyroid problems for about 10 years and have been treated with synthoids presently getting 1.75 , recent test rated my tsh at 5.464 - I have been gaining weight about 50 lbs in the past year and other systems that I never had before are as follows - sore throat - sweating - sose throat - body aches etc.
Avatar f tn I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years with no success. I finally found out that I was pregnant the beginning of last year and made it to 4 months and suffered a miscarriage for no apparent reason.
Avatar f tn I keep getting severe inflammatory pain in my neck and the throat. Almost always after a common cold I my neck muscles spasm severely and then I know something just got "infected". The cold itself goes away but the inflammation process begins. I'm in severe debilitating pain. I've had tons of blood work, thryoid, CT and MRI. Except for some thyroid abnormalities nothing explains this kind of pain. I do not have Hashi or Graves and only a slightly elevated ANA.
Avatar f tn i know i strained my neck alot and afterwards ive been having slight hyperthyroidsm symptoms, and the area in my neck feels sore and its been a month now.
Avatar f tn t overproduce thyroid hormones which is what caused the many other symptoms I was having (palpitations, hand tremors, exhaustion, brain fog, extemely emotional - cried at the drop of a hat). However, I also had a pretty impressive case of Graves Eye Disease, and two different endos that I saw reccomended against RAI because it has been related to worsening of the eye disease.
