Avatar n tn I am 24 and diagnosed with severe Graves last year. On Methimazole and last TSH 2.1. I woke up yesterday with eyes bloodshot, gritty, painful and eyelids swollen. I don't think I have had the bug eyes that I read about with Graves. This has happened periodically and at first I thought it was my contacts but I did not have them in the night before. I know this condition is connected with Graves but is there any treatment? I am miserable.
Avatar f tn I coped with this for a year and half and then started having eye problems. Pain in rt. eye and hurt and IOP was elevated. I first went to regular eye doctor who referred me to his friend, and opthalmologist. I was put on eye drops for the elevated IOP then with out any findings of glucoma but was told that I was a "suspect" for glucoma. No eye problems previously.
Avatar f tn t had any eye problems and never knew anyone that did have eye problems with Graves Disease, but it is a scary thing to think about! Also, my doctor told me that eye problems generally occur within 6 months of treatment for Graves so since I have not had eye problems in the 5-6 years that I have had this disease the chance for me to get it, gets less and less likely.
Avatar f tn The cause of IC is unknown but is a suspected autoimmune disease. Both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism affects the skin and one of the possible symptom is eczema. Diverticulitis is not an autoimmune disease but is stated to be very common and is usually asymptomatic (no symptoms). I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and pernicious anaemia and vitiligo. I'm looking forward to trying LDN.
Avatar f tn They are mostly smokers and most problems with your eyes develop within 6 months of your treatment of Graves disease. Anything is possible and anyone could develop problems with their eyes but the majority does not. The longer you have had Graves disease without having problems with your eyes the less likely it is to happen.
Avatar n tn The antibodies that cause Graves Eye Disease (or thyroid eye disease) are totally different from the antibodies that cause either Graves Disease (thyroid) or Hashimotos. Your thyroid levels won't have an impact on your eyes. In fact, some people have the eye problems without ever having thyroid problems. That being said, if you have one of the autoimmune thyroid diseases (Hashis or Graves), you could also have thyroid eye disease.
Avatar n tn LOL I think maybe you have had misinformation about thryoid disease. As tm514 above states, it is normally Graves disease which has eye problems. Rest assured having a thyroidectomy only leads to a lighter wallet not eye disease.
877337 tn?1249844450 Regarding the eye problems often associated with Graves - only about 10% of Graves/Thyroid patients develop Graves Eye Disease. The eye disease is actually caused by different antibodies than the ones that cause the thyroid problems. Some people have the eye problems without ever having thyroid problems. Most have thyroid problems an no eye problems. The eye problems usually start with a lot (almost constant) tearing and a dry, gritty feeling on they eye surface.
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for Epstein-Barr Virus....that is one of the leading causes of Hashimoto's.
110220 tn?1309306861 I was diagnosed with Graves disease and I have read everything regard the disease and what I find most fearful is the eye issues that can result with Graves Disease. many articles indicate only 30% of people with Graves disease have issues with their eyes. Is this correct? I am seeing an eye doctor in a couple of weeks? I do feel grit in one of my eyes from time to time. This is pretty nerve racking.
Avatar f tn My fiance' was diagnosed with Graves Disease late last year. Something we did not expect was him having Aortic Stenosis. Graves Disease causes numerous symptoms so we thought it was the disease causing his heart problems. He just took the treatment for the Graves so it's going to be a month or so before the treatment starts to show some results. He has another test scheduled next week with an Interventional Cardiologist.
1428646 tn?1330978063 graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster. I was on medication for about 2 years. then it went into remission now it is back. graves disease could attack any organ , graves disease is your immune system attacks your organs not virus or bacteria.
Avatar f tn I've just been diagnosed with Graves' Disease. I have autoimmune thyroid disease that has changed from being primary Hashimoto's thyroiditis to Graves's Disease. I was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia. I also have severe osteoarthritis, especially in both hands. What am I doing wrong? The doctor told me I'm a very strange case. What's that mean?
Avatar n tn Can you have graves disease so bad that it would seem like bipolar and I thought Graves disease was an overactive thyroid, so how can you be hypro?
Avatar f tn I feel tired, can barely sleep, stressed all the time, and have a lot of skin, hair (dry and falling a lot), eyes (always red and in pain) and circulation problems. My doctor says my thiroid is enlarged and sent me an ultrasound. I feel awful. Any advice?
877337 tn?1249844450 Graves' disease may present clinically with one of the following characteristic signs: * exophthalmos (protuberance of one or both eyes) * a non-pitting edema (pretibial myxedema), with thickening of the skin usually found on the lower extremities * fatigue, weight loss with increased appetite, and other symptoms of hyperthyroidism * rapid heart beats * muscular weakness The two signs that are truly 'diagnostic' of Graves' disease (i.e.
Avatar f tn Prisms can be incorporated into the glasses or stuck on all the back surface of the lens "fresnel prisms" Tape won't cut it.
Avatar n tn Actually most Thyroid Diseases have the emotional side to them. That's why we all feel so isolated. It's like the whole world can control their body's and we can't. I'm not an expert on Graves, but I've been around people with it and severe cases none-the-less. Sounds a lot like Graves, but does she have any family, like a husband who could take her to the doctor?
Avatar m tn Scuse me if this is a duplicate. I thought I posted it but don't see it here. ****** I did not mean to focus on eyes and skin. Just that this person has few Graves symptoms and even more symptoms opposite of Graves. But from what I am reading here, the test numbers (especially TSI of 344) should be given more weight than the symptoms. Thanks.
