Avatar n tn You have to be proactive and assertive with doctors about thyroid disease for some reason. The migraines, the pressure behind the eyes, the muscle weakness... they are all symptoms of Grave's and that could be all that's wrong with you... however, you MUST get a second opinion, and you'll probably need a third and fourth, too.
877337 tn?1249844450 Thanks for the reply. This is quite interesting. I actually received the news this week that I tested positive for Graves' Disease. Apparently the Graves was developing for some time as the lower back & leg pain were developing as well. I don't know yet if there is a connection. I have an appointment with my Endo and an Orthopedic doctor next week. It will be interesting to learn if there is a connection.
11594441 tn?1419693988 Hyperthyroidism, especially long-term untreated conditions of both overt and subclinical hyperthyroidism can eventually cause bone loss and muscle weakness." "The extent and severity of muscle weakness or myopathy tends to be related to the duration of thyrotoxicosis but not its severity." "Studies show that muscle weakness in thyrotoxicosis is related to low levels of vitamin B6.
Avatar n tn I was Diagnosed and Treated with radioactive Iodine for Graves Disease in the Fall of last year. Since then I have been battling hair loss, weight gain, muscle cramps and extreme tiredness. I recently in May went on the synthroid but haven't had much change except for the muscle cramps have reduced. My question is though, how does taking synthroid effect your periods.
437363 tn?1212011158 I was diangosed in 2006 with Graves Disease. I had the RAI treatment and have since struggled up and down with my TSH. I had been fine, but in the last few weeks/months I have been dealing with pretty severe muscle pain. I have had numerous doctors appointments and they've tested for anything possible in blood work and found nothing. All of my numbers look great, all normal. I KNOW this muscle pain in not normal and I refuse to do as the doctors suggest and just "wait it out".
Avatar f tn The short answer is that all of the above - hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or other can all cause muscle weakness. Muscle weakness in the muscles you are talking about feeling weakness in, like from pushups (triceps, deltoids, maybe biceps and trapezius) are associated with hypo and hyperthyroidism though, so I think you're on the right track to look in to your thyroid hormone level as a cause, but I can't say it is definitely one of those, or which one it is.
Avatar m tn 5 yrs - Symptoms vary in intensity and duration, but they are as follows - heavy tiredness, muscle weakness, balance probs, anxiety, palpatations, muscle aches, joint pain, occassional strange explosions in my head ( feel like a split second stroke ), tingling sensations in my face and numbness in my hands, muscle twitches and cramps, hard to get up in the am, migraine headches, involuntary jerks, ? depression and seem to have CNS medication sensitivities.
Avatar n tn fatigue, eye problems (swelling, pain, extreme sensitivity to light, and redness) arm numbness and tingly, burning pain off and on in my right thigh, frequent urination at night, I get really hot and start to sweat and I have noticed muscle weakness. I just feel like sometimes people think you make these kind of things up. I just want to feel like myself again. Any advice on what kind of doctor I should be seeing or what my symptoms sound like would be of great help. I appreciate your time.
Avatar f tn Thank-you cmropen, as I stated above I am seeing a different endo next week to get a second opinion about everything.I am really trying to see if anyone else has experienced the worsening muscle pain and weakness and if they have any that possibly gave them some relief while waiting for methimazole to work.
Avatar m tn ve been having very bad muscle pain and weakness in my legs and was wondering what I might be able to take to help ease these symptoms before I see the Endo. It's making me hard to get up and down from my desk at work. Thank you.
Avatar n tn This is when I started to self diagnosis myself as having Graves disease. My symptoms were sweating all the time, heat and light sensitivity, rapid heart rate of 120 sitting, muscle weakness (could hardly walk down steps!), and a huge appetite, frequent bowel movements, and my hands would shake all the time. Before this occured I was very much into lifting weights and running long distances. When I started to see my endocrinologist she said my TSH was less than .
Avatar n tn I have graves disease (hyperthyroid) and graves eye disease...turns out many of the dificiencise caused by the statins put my system in imbalance. And so much for their great ability to reduce inflammation...mine is through the roof. The l-carnitine and coQ10 and selenium have worked wonders though.
Avatar f tn White spots on a brain scan can be from several different factors: *A natural phenomenon of the brain due to the coating of axon nerve fibers with myelin *Hardening of small arteries in the brain from high blood pressure, causing a buildup of fluid *Early onset of a stroke or another neurological condition eg: MS, lyme's disease, lupus *Vitamin B12 deficiency - leads to demyelination *Migrane *Brain injury *Infectious diseases that have occurred in the past *Celiac's disea
Avatar n tn s than I do Graves -- complete intolerance of cold, fatigue, dry skin, hoarse voice, pain and joint stiffness, muscle weakness, depression. The only symptom of Graves I have is frequent bowel movements. I take synthroid 150 daily. Thank you.
Avatar n tn The hyperthyroidism is likely autoimmune (ie Graves disease) and can cause the muscle weakness. Beta blockers will protect the heart and help with some symptoms, but not muscle weakness. 7 weeks is a long time to wait for an evaluation for symptomatic hyperthyroidism -- would call the endo's office to try to get on the cancellation list for an earlier appointment.
Avatar n tn I know that muscle cramping is a symptom of hyPOparathyroidism, but can it also be a symptom of hyPERparathyroidism? I've been having lower right abdomen cramps and increased leg cramps, esp. at night. I've pretty much got the diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism, we're just looking for a good localization scan. Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn she gave 100mg of methymazole, after a month i started having this ugly muscle pain and in my blood results show problems with liver and kidneys and nobody listen to me , so i had to change specialist, then he run some test. When i went back to get my results he told me to get the radiation that it's my only option because i have severe hyperthyroidism.I went to get like a scan of my thyroid and a reading on my thyroid.
1052518 tn?1253948150 s thyroid disease causes nodules and the symptoms you have as you swing back and forth while the body fights the disease. TSH and your other blood levels can swing, too, which might be why it is low. Hashi people usually have high TSH. Hashi people have symptoms that sometimes mimic MS, just like the symptoms you've listed, but the leg weakness does not progress to the point where we need braces or wheelchairs, and the symptoms improve with thyroid hormone replacement.
Avatar n tn Symptoms got worse and new more alarming symptoms started--weightloss in spite of a voracious appetite, muscle loss and weakness in arms and legs, increasing anxiety with panic attacks, more freq episodes of rapid heart rate with HR up to 170, POUNDING heart beat even when heart rate only 100 (my heart beat was so strong it was uncomfortable) , the hand tremors progressed to episodes of full body shakes, headaches and dizziness, etc.
877337 tn?1249844450 Graves' disease may present clinically with one of the following characteristic signs: * exophthalmos (protuberance of one or both eyes) * a non-pitting edema (pretibial myxedema), with thickening of the skin usually found on the lower extremities * fatigue, weight loss with increased appetite, and other symptoms of hyperthyroidism * rapid heart beats * muscular weakness The two signs that are truly 'diagnostic' of Graves' disease (i.e.
Avatar n tn Went to doctor at MDA in Medical Center and she told me that yes, I most absolutely have muscle disease and that she is positively sure about that and that this will be a chronic condition that I will more than likely have to deal with for the rest of my life. The problem: She doesn't know what kind of muscle disease it is.
Avatar f tn I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years with no success. I finally found out that I was pregnant the beginning of last year and made it to 4 months and suffered a miscarriage for no apparent reason.
Avatar m tn I have been having intermittement muscle weakness and joint pain for about 2 months now. Have had a spinal tap (negative) and two MRIs - some lesions seen but neuro says they are "insignificant". MS has been ruled out. The only blood tests that have come back abnormal are for active epstein-barr, vitamin d deficiency (level is 10), thyroid underactive and cortisol underactive. I am extremely exhausted and anxious alot of the time.
Avatar n tn Hi Woody and welcome to the forum. I am glad to hear that your MRI is normal. I am sorry you are going through the symptoms of muscle weakness. I do hope that you are going to follow through with your primary care doctor and/or neurologist if this should continue. On a side note, muscle weakness is a perceived or true lack of muscle strength that can be felt generally from one limb, to all four limbs and can be one-sided or both sides.
572651 tn?1530999357 aspx Weakness of the ventilatory muscles can begin early in the disease In MS, the most common cause of respiratory problems is loss of muscle strength and endurance. Just as a person can experience muscle weakness in the arms or legs, weakness can occur in the ventilatory muscles of the chest and abdomen that are involved in breathing.
