Avatar n tn After being diagnosed with Graves Disease, I opted to have my Thyroid obliterated using the Radioactive Iodine Therapy procedure. During the transition of losing the Thyroid, I lost a good portion of my vision in my right eye. Was told that the vision loss is due to AION (Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropothy). Once I lost my vision, I began to feel "unbalanced" or "light headed" at all times. Sometimes this feeling diminishes but it never really disappears.
Avatar f tn If you have seen six neurologists and no one is saying MS it probably is not MS. Graves disease is the biggest mimic of MS with the same symptoms.
Avatar f tn MS site i belong to, There is people who now also have problems with their thyroid . After being confirmed with MS. Or living with MS for years and years.
Avatar f tn No, an antibody test can't rule out nodules on your thyroid, on the other hand, nodules don't determine autoimmunity; that's done mostly via the antibody tests, but can also, sometimes be done through characteristics of the thyroid gland itself. It's not true that nodules are rare with Graves Disease since thyroid nodules are common with both autoimmune thyroid conditions - either Graves or Hashimoto's.
Avatar f tn Fine hand tremors can also be thyroid, because i have fine hand tremors with my graves disease, and i cant stand heat, i go all gooey, and fatigued, I do think there is some neuro-endocrine,connection with all off this i just dont know what I am still being assesed of my neuro, for my sensory symptoms, I hope i havent bored you, but with some simple bloodwork i would look for auto-immune thyroid, and vitamin levels to start off with. Keep in touch, we could perhaps help one another.
3054080 tn?1358722856 It said that she wants my neurologist to evaluate me for Multiple Sclerosis and Graves Disease. So, I guess she saw something in my eyes and since the report is written in doctorese, I really don't know what. She had told me about the Convergence Insufficiency and refractive diplopia and prescribed glasses. I did finally get my glasses and I see clearer, but I also see double and up close vision is bad. So, that's where I am. Graves Disease sounds pretty scary,.
Avatar f tn Yes it is possible to have more than one autoimmune disease and there is an organization dedicated to researching multiple autoimmune diseases, MADGC or Multiple Autoimmune Disease Genetics Consortium. Interesting to look at the website, because Graves Disease and MS are 2 of the 5 diseases listed under "Do any of these diseases run in your family?" http://www.madgc.org/madgc/WhatIsMADGC.
Avatar f tn 40 yrs ago I was diagnosed with Graves disease during one of my pregnancies. I was on synthroid and PTU for 5 mos. After delivery I became allergic to the PTU so my doctor sent me to a specialists and just before they gave me the radioactive iodine my thyroid tests came back normal and stayed normal for 12 years. After gaining weight and feeling awful, my thyroid tests came back showing Hashimotos Thyroiditis.
Avatar f tn White spots on a brain scan can be from several different factors: *A natural phenomenon of the brain due to the coating of axon nerve fibers with myelin *Hardening of small arteries in the brain from high blood pressure, causing a buildup of fluid *Early onset of a stroke or another neurological condition eg: MS, lyme's disease, lupus *Vitamin B12 deficiency - leads to demyelination *Migrane *Brain injury *Infectious diseases that have occurred in the past *Celiac's disea
1052518 tn?1253948150 s thyroid disease causes nodules and the symptoms you have as you swing back and forth while the body fights the disease. TSH and your other blood levels can swing, too, which might be why it is low. Hashi people usually have high TSH. Hashi people have symptoms that sometimes mimic MS, just like the symptoms you've listed, but the leg weakness does not progress to the point where we need braces or wheelchairs, and the symptoms improve with thyroid hormone replacement.
1428646 tn?1330978063 Is it normal for a person to have 2 autoimmune diseases attacking their body at once? I have both MS and Graves? Thanks a million..
326184 tn?1348809108 Hello to all, I am new to this particular board but am dealing with serious health issues. I was diagnosed with graves disease in 2003 and had radiation iodine treatment. I am as I have been told, one of those 1/100 who now have fluctuations between hypo/hyper and have learned to deal with gaining 15lbs then losing 15lbs every three months or so.
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
Avatar n tn I have graves disease, but was in remission. Then I had cancer and chemotherapy. My TSH level is hyper again and my other tests normal. The doctors won't say if chemo can activate your graves disease. They do say that a physical or emotional change to my body can trigger it. My thoughts, Cancer and chemotherapy are big time physical and emotional changes.
Avatar f tn 19 year old son was getting hives mainly at night. Diagnosed with Graves disease a couple weeks ago and on meds now. is this normal with graves?
Avatar f tn They have removed me off of my medicine one time to see if my Graves disease had went into remission and within two months it came back with TSH levels of 0.003...basically non-existant TSH levels. They put me back on my 10mg Methmazole and within 3 weeks my levels were normal. That is pretty much a health summary of my graves disease for the past five-six years lol.
Avatar m tn I am so glad you are being helped! When I was dx'd with lupus, the rheumie told me that if I had Graves desease, that would explain most of the symptoms, because there are so many symptoms that cross over with lupus, ms, etc from graves. I was floored, but as it turned out, I don't have graves - just lupus and MS. As far as you staying on the MS forum? Well, you know what they say?
Avatar f tn In 1984, I had hyperthyroidism found a book about hyperthyroidism and it said that with Graves disease, you can have double vision years before. I asked my doctor if I had Graves disease and he said no. He became head of his field at Vanderbuilt Hospital so he was really good and knew what he was talking about. I told everyone I had Graves disease because of the double vision. I now wonder if it could be part of MS.Any comments please. The double vision came and went all day at will.
Avatar m tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Gravesand Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease." *** I've had both Hashi's and Graves antibodies simultaneously but I had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis previously.
1773941 tn?1331676759 Thank you! :) This process of a diagnosis takes forever. I have Graves disease also, and was told that Lyme and / or it's coinfections can wreck havoc on the thyroid. ( HMMM ??) During the years of treatment for my thyroid, RAI, Radiation to both eyes due to thyroid eye disease, 5 eye surgeries, I began to have a lot of neurological things happen. First was the optic neuropathy. I was told that it was from the eye disease. Second was the slurred speech, that lasted for two weeks.
Avatar n tn Can you have graves disease so bad that it would seem like bipolar and I thought Graves disease was an overactive thyroid, so how can you be hypro?
