Avatar m tn They would not tell me if I have Graves Disease or not, just that I am hyperthyroid. They want to put me on Tapazol and do bloodwork in 2 weeks again. I don't want to take the medicine as I have no symptoms, and don't want to screw my thyroid up. Any advice?
Avatar m tn - If you have an autoimune thyroid disease like Hashimoto or Graves disease, avoid soy when possible. Non-fermented (in USA) is the worst for you. In Autoimmune thyroid , the thyroid is inflamed from the antibodies and you are at risk for more body inflammation in other areas. The thyroid level of inflammation gets re-disturbed with other hormone imbalances as it can no longer self adjust. The hormone output and free T levels are now regulated by the hormone replacement meds.
Avatar m tn 2) The only reason a doctor should/would investigate Graves Disease is if you have symptoms of hyperthyroidism and/or lab results indicate increased thyroid hormone levels. If you did not have symptoms of Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism) at that time, the doctor did nothing wrong.
Avatar n tn I have/had graves disease, and prior to my treatment, I met with a Neuro Ophthalmologist and luckily for me, it had not progressed to the eyes prior to my surgery.
Avatar n tn Hi, I've been treated for the last 4 years for Graves Disease with block and replace here in the Netherlands. Now, in preparing for a thyroidectomy, I had a scan which revealed thyroiditis. As far as I can see, this is not a symptom of Graves Disease. Without medication I am still hyper. Any ideas what this could be?
Avatar f tn I recently was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and Graves Disease, although my blood test was negative. Four weeks ago I started on thyroid medicine. Looking for answers for this disease, I went to the book store and bought a book titled "Living Well with Graves Disease and Hyperthyroidism." In this book it mentions that aspartame can mock the same symptoms of Graves.
Avatar f tn "In conditions of chronic urticaria, thyroid antibodies are not only indicators of chronic inflammation, but they appear to play a role in the disease process. In most cases, improvement of urticaria with thyroxine replacement hormone suggests that chronic thyroid inflammation may initiate a hypersensitivity reaction and an underlying thyroid hormone deficiency. However, rarely, patients with chronic urticaria have undiagnosed conditions of Graves' disease.
Avatar f tn What is the likely cause of hyperthyroidism if there is no inflammation? My dr thinks I have postpartum thyroiditis but I think that would require inflammation. Also in Grave's Disease the thyroid is inflamed. Does anyone have any clue why I don't have inflammation or is there a common reason for hyperthyroidism where inflammation is not necessary for a diagnosis?
Avatar f tn My 3 y.o was diagnosed with Graves Disease 2 weeks ago. Since then she had seen a Ped. Endo and RAI is scheduled in 3 days. She does have eye involvement. Her eyes don't close when she sleeps. My question/concern to you is: I heard RAI can increase the effects on her eyes due to the increase in hormone surge I read that taking prednisone can help decrease the inflammation that may be caused. Has any of you taken prednisone after getting RAI.
Avatar f tn I keep getting severe inflammatory pain in my neck and the throat. Almost always after a common cold I my neck muscles spasm severely and then I know something just got "infected". The cold itself goes away but the inflammation process begins. I'm in severe debilitating pain. I've had tons of blood work, thryoid, CT and MRI. Except for some thyroid abnormalities nothing explains this kind of pain. I do not have Hashi or Graves and only a slightly elevated ANA.
Avatar m tn Selenium helps with thyroid inflammation so this may help with your throat symptoms. Also, in 2011 a study demonstrated that selenium supplementation (200 mcg per day) can slow the progression of eye disease and improve quality of life in patients with Graves' disease with mild ocular involvement (Graves' ophthalmopathy). In supplement form, the most bioavailable form of selenium is L selenomethionine.

Avatar f tn Please post the reference ranges for the T3 and T4. Ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report. Also, please tell us if those are Free T3 and Free T4 or if they are Total T3 and Total T4. They aren't the same tests and don't give the same information. If Free T3 and Free T4 is not specified, they are Total T3 and Total T4, by default. Tests for TT3 and TT4 are considered obsolete and not nearly as useful as tests for FT3 and FT4.
Avatar n tn Hi steph20, There is a lot of information not mentioned about your thyroid ultrasound, including if any nodules were noted or the dimensions of the thyroid gland itself, which can tell you more about your thyroid. I'm not a medical professional but I have had thyroid ultrasounds, so I'll tell you what I know based on the short ultrasound result.
Avatar f tn What are your actual thyroid hormone levels? Your doctor should have tested you for Free T3, Free T4 and TSH. You should also have been tested for, both Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Graves Disease. Graves is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism, however, it's quite common to have periods of hyperthyroidism, in the early stages of Hashimoto's, also.
Avatar f tn In certain angles I suffer from double vision and Pressure in my head. I have hyperthyroidism and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Doctors say I have thyroid eye disease but after intense research I believe I have orbital igg4-related disease. Doctors dont Know mch!
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
Avatar n tn I have graves disease, but was in remission. Then I had cancer and chemotherapy. My TSH level is hyper again and my other tests normal. The doctors won't say if chemo can activate your graves disease. They do say that a physical or emotional change to my body can trigger it. My thoughts, Cancer and chemotherapy are big time physical and emotional changes.
Avatar n tn It may be worth coming off the PTU to see what really happens, also of interest would be TSI and TBII which are markers for Graves disease. If you are on a low dose PTU (50-100mg/day total), stopping it may reasonable with close observation. Remeber, I-131 therapy is never an emergency, so it is important to make certain the hyperthyroidism is likely a consistent problem requiring definitive treatment;.
Avatar f tn 19 year old son was getting hives mainly at night. Diagnosed with Graves disease a couple weeks ago and on meds now. is this normal with graves?
Avatar f tn Thyroiditis is inflammation/swelling of the thyroid; usually caused by an autoimmune condition, which could be either Graves Disease or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. It has no connection to HIV.
