Avatar f tn Are Graves Disease and allergy shots compatible? I've had RAI and am on Synthroid. My seasonal allergies (as well as dust mitea, etc.) are very bad. I understand that allergies are also a type of autoimmune disease in itself. Elaine Moore tends to believe that immunotherapy (allergy shots) makes Graves Disease worse, and can possibly bring on the Graves Eye Disease.
1712590 tn?1352392772 I have to have cortisone shots to my low back and I have Graves Disease. Will the shots be ok to have or will they affect my eyes?
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism slows metabolism and this can cause the parietal cells to produce less stomach acid (hypochlorhydria). Adequate levels of stomach acid is required for vitamin B12 absorption. Another cause for vitamin B12 deficiency is due to other autoimmune disease that may occur with Hashimoto's thyroiditis such as autoimmune pernicious anaemia or celiac disease. Prevalence and relative risk of other autoimmune diseases in subjects with autoimmune thyroid disease. Am J Med.
1717054 tn?1316712653 Not all flu shots are created equal, be cautious about which one you are getting, and talk to your doc about whether it's appropriate for you. "According to the Center for Disease Control, "Manufacturers might use different compounds to inactivate influenza viruses and add antibiotics to prevent bacterial contamination." As with all medical procedures, having a foreign substance injected into your bloodstream involves a certain degree of risk.
1201433 tn?1328997637 As you have a chronic and potentially life threatening disease you always should now get a flu shot every single year. If there was that much mercury in them everyone in America over a certain age would have dropped dead by now of liver damage. All the vitamin D and selenium in the world will NOT kill a VIRUS and that is what the flu is. You do not need another active virus in your body at all.
Avatar f tn I never get flu shots ever pregnant ir not I've never had one my whole life. I will get the dtap booster though.
1211076 tn?1303519440 My thoughts are still that I, as a thyroid patient with a weakened immune system will continue to get Flu shots yearly. I have had the flu and ended up in an Intensive care ambulance and nearly died, so for me it's a no-brainer. For others it needs to be an informed and personal choice.
Avatar n tn I have graves disease, but was in remission. Then I had cancer and chemotherapy. My TSH level is hyper again and my other tests normal. The doctors won't say if chemo can activate your graves disease. They do say that a physical or emotional change to my body can trigger it. My thoughts, Cancer and chemotherapy are big time physical and emotional changes.

Avatar n tn RAI treats the hyperthyroidism from Graves disease by rendering the thyroid incapable of producing the thyroid hormones that cause hyperthyroidism. Since your thyroid will be "dead" in effect, the Graves antibodies will not be able to overstimulate it.
Avatar n tn s disease, then still not feeling well, and finally diagnosed with graves disease and vitamin D deficiency. Then came Graves eye disease, not severe and under control. So yes have levels checked, I had only TSH checked in Feb of last year, and it came back in normal range, when i had my physical my tsh was 0.00 so they tested T3 and T4 and they were not normal. Good luck, it is a slow process, and i get depressed about it often, it is not a disease with an easy cure, it is a long battle.
Avatar m tn I deal with heart arrhythmias like all of you and I really worry when the flu season comes. I am scared to get a flu shot thinking my heart will go crazy on me and possibly lock up. Have any of you ever had problems with the flu shots before? One other thing. I have been through all the testing and been told i'm normal, but the truth of the matter is to me, is that anyone who experiences iregular beats of their heart like this is not normal.
Avatar f tn I am posting not to brag or gloat but to show many that there IS light at the end of the tunnel and that anyone suffering from Graves Disease and Hyperthyroidism can get back on the right road. The pic of me in pink was 2 weeks before RAI. The pic of me in yellow was taken Easter Sunday. Yes I have more weight on me but I sure as he// look and feel 100% better. This is to give hope to all those who feel there is none. Believe me, there is.
898849 tn?1241811271 How important is it to get the flu and/or pneumonia vaccine, being that I have heart failure. I just heard about the recent death in Washington where the individual had a heart condition, pneumonia and swine flu. I was recently diagnosed with CHF in January, so all this is still very new to me.
518117 tn?1429276273 I have known of so many people that have taken flu shots over the years and end up getting flu like symptoms from the shot. Plus, I have yet to ever take the pneumonia shot. I not one bit afraid to take a shot. Never been scared of needles. But, I am though afraid of taking shots, that are only going to make me sick. When I am trying to prevent things like flu and pneumonia. To prevent becoming ill to begin with. Then, there is this swine flu that is all in the news, etc.
Avatar n tn iam apatient who suffers graves disease. My question is : Although I am almost 4 months on Carbamizole treatment 60 mg + Taking inderal ( propanalol), but the levels of my T4 & T3 are still high and the levels of TSH is less than 0.01. what do you think , should i sstop the medication and think of the other allternatives like the radioactive iodine or surgical removal?
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for Graves Disease? Graves is a thyroid disease, often associated with hyperthyroidism, which is known to contribute to weight loss.
Avatar n tn Last week I had a flu shot on Monday and also the Hep A and B vacination shots on last wadnesday. By last Friday I had a serious sinus infection. I was wondering if it would be agood idea to go back to the doctor and get a sinus cocktail shot to pump up my system before I start the shots for the Hep c? Also of the things I have been reading say that The first couple of shots make yopu feel sick.
1253246 tn?1332073310 I have a high viral load and was able to get the recommended flu shot. Possibly, a note from your doc saying it's okay will relieve any concern of liability from your local merchant? If not, you may have to just lay out the bucks and get one from your doc.
1428646 tn?1330978063 graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster. I was on medication for about 2 years. then it went into remission now it is back. graves disease could attack any organ , graves disease is your immune system attacks your organs not virus or bacteria.
6709254 tn?1389303349 My ob explained to me that by people not vaccinating kids the death rates for the flu and whooping cough have sky rocketed! I myself do not believe in the flu shot, I've been sick from it every time it got the vaccination, but I would do anything for my child so I got one do e this year. Plus once kids get old enough the school systems require your children to be vaccinated, which is a good thing in my opinion.
663386 tn?1283642868 My doc said to go ahead and get the flu shot. It won't hurt the treatment and you sure don't want to get the flu on top of all the usual (yucky) side effects! I'm taking benadryl occasionally for the ribavirin rash. My doc said it was OK. Definitely talk to your doc about both, but they're probably fine.
1078707 tn?1255964151 m not planning on a shot. Like you, I have had bad reactions to flu shots in the past, and my poor body is on overdrive now fighting off what it's got, so I figure my immune system is on alert. Illogical perhaps not to get a shot, but my current position is not to. I don't have a chonic condition like asthma, so that's outside my frame of reference. ================= On another note, there are some good LLMDs in Virginia -- have you consulted one (or more)?
Avatar m tn Yes joint and muscle pain is also a symptom of graves. However being low for potassium and magnesium can also cause joint pain. These deficiencies are common in hyper. Do you take supplements? Does the cramp feel gassy?
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
Avatar f tn I have never got it and extremely leary of getting the flu shot. It doesn't protect from all strains of the flu and it's putting the dead flu virus into your body and they say pregnant women's immune systems are already compromised because of pregnancy. I disagree when people say you cant get sick from the flu shot. I witness my bEstfriend get extremely sick 3 hours after his first flu shot. I just try to stay healthy by washing my hands, eating right and exercising.
