Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
Avatar f tn Similarly, sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland may develop in response to an established thyroid disorder including Gravesdisease, nodular goiter, and thyroid cancer. Patients with Gravesdisease may also have concomitant conditions of sarcoidosis affecting the lungs. Patients with systemic sarcoidosis may also develop sarcoid lesions in various organs including the thyroid gland.
Avatar n tn However, there remains a chance of hypothyroidism and other complications, and not all Grave disease patients are suitable for this. Please discuss with your treating specialist. Take care!
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
Avatar f tn Abnormal thyroid functioning can affect mood and influence the course of unipolar and bipolar disorder. Even mild thyroid dysfunction has been associated with changes in mood and cognitive functioning. Thyroid hormone supplementation may have role in the treatment of certain mood disorders, particularly rapid-cycling bipolar disorder. Women are more vulnerable to thyroid dysfunction than men and also respond better to thyroid augmentation.
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism slows metabolism and this can cause the parietal cells to produce less stomach acid (hypochlorhydria). Adequate levels of stomach acid is required for vitamin B12 absorption. Another cause for vitamin B12 deficiency is due to other autoimmune disease that may occur with Hashimoto's thyroiditis such as autoimmune pernicious anaemia or celiac disease. Avatar n tn I have had steroids for my eyes and and tapazole nothing has worked. I have toxic nodoles along with Graves disease. I have changed my diet and tried different things what do you suggest. I'm not sleeping, I have gained most of my weight back with increased heart beat. What can I do.
Avatar f tn Yes I had those symptoms but until you get your thyroid levels checked (FT3, FT4 and TSH ) along with antiboduy testing for Graves Disease, then it is unrealistic to assume you have a thyroid disorder. Post yr levels once your bloods have been done. You are showing the signs of Hyperthyroidism though and do need treatment asap.
Avatar f tn White spots on a brain scan can be from several different factors: *A natural phenomenon of the brain due to the coating of axon nerve fibers with myelin *Hardening of small arteries in the brain from high blood pressure, causing a buildup of fluid *Early onset of a stroke or another neurological condition eg: MS, lyme's disease, lupus *Vitamin B12 deficiency - leads to demyelination *Migrane *Brain injury *Infectious diseases that have occurred in the past *Celiac's disea
Avatar f tn As listed in the previous response, psychiatric problems can be one of the characteristics of Wilson disease. Psychiatric problems, such as depression, bipolar disorder, mood swings, have been documented in cases of Wilson disease. Hope this clarifies the information.
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed with Graves disease over a year ago and the doctor said i had panick attacks and anxiety i didn't want to go to a pshycologist thinking it's all because of my disease and i've been prescriped only with xanax, the problem is that it does work for my anxiety but does nothing for my depression, anger and my parents noticed my mood swings after 6 months of treatment because i was angry or happy or funny and shortly after that i became depressed, and they thought th
Avatar f tn When you say you have bipolar disorder, do you mean you suffer from true bipolar or a form of depression sometimes called bipolar 2 or other odd numbers. If it's the first, only medication can treat you, so being off meds would explain a lot. If the latter, that's treated like any other form of depression, and also having an anxiety disorder, I'm wondering if you're so affected by it you believe spiders are crawling on you why you're not on medication.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your insight. This problem only occurred once before shortly after the thyroidectomy. However it was quickly resolved. This has been going on for a long time now and he has every symptom of hypothyroidism with sleepiness, dry skin peeling on his hands except he has loss of appetite and weight loss more like hyperthyroidism. Of course his TSH levels indicated he was hyper at 0.3. We demanded his local doctor repeat and do a T4 and T3.

It started with hand tremors then stuttering to the point of not being understood. I also have Celiac Disease. My sister has Celiac also but no mental health issues.
