877337 tn?1249844450 I've read that people with autoimmune diseases sometimes actually have more than one. Is this true? I also read that rheumatoid arthritis is one of these illnesses. Is there a connection between rheumatoid arthritis and graves? I'm still researching this so I haven't quite found a definite answer. I'm curious because not only do I have Graves but I have also developed arthritis. I'm not certain but it seems that the symptoms from both started around the same time.
374933 tn?1291081784 In conventional medicine, there is no explanation for why autoimmune disorders (e.g., Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimotos’, Graves, Thyroiditis, etc) occur. If you don’t understand the cause of an illness, then how can you fashion an appropriate treatment regimen? My experience has shown that many individuals suffering from autoimmune illnesses often have an underlying infectious component.

Avatar f tn Hi, I have a variety of auto-ammune diseases... I have Hashi-motto's Disease (thyroid, opposite of Graves Disease), I have Fibromyalgia, I have Osteo-Arthritis, I have Sero Negative Rheumatoid Arthritis (so they think, my Mom's has it) and I have Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.. and I have a motto ~Live as if all your dreams came true~ So, yes you can have many auto-ammune diseases!
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism slows metabolism and this can cause the parietal cells to produce less stomach acid (hypochlorhydria). Adequate levels of stomach acid is required for vitamin B12 absorption. Another cause for vitamin B12 deficiency is due to other autoimmune disease that may occur with Hashimoto's thyroiditis such as autoimmune pernicious anaemia or celiac disease. Prevalence and relative risk of other autoimmune diseases in subjects with autoimmune thyroid disease. Am J Med.
Avatar f tn I have been having difficulties quite sometime now and labs show normal but I feel terrible and eye doctor suspects graves disease (I never mentioned anything to him regarding thyroid issues). I also have insulin resistance and arthritis. Fatigue, bone pain, irritability and extreme stiffness after doing physical housework, walking and other activity are everyday symptoms I have learned to live with. Lab results were as follows: TPO AB 7 TSH 0.93 T3 Uptake 24 antithyroglobulin AB <1.

Avatar f tn White spots on a brain scan can be from several different factors: *A natural phenomenon of the brain due to the coating of axon nerve fibers with myelin *Hardening of small arteries in the brain from high blood pressure, causing a buildup of fluid *Early onset of a stroke or another neurological condition eg: MS, lyme's disease, lupus *Vitamin B12 deficiency - leads to demyelination *Migrane *Brain injury *Infectious diseases that have occurred in the past *Celiac's disea
Avatar f tn Similarly, sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland may develop in response to an established thyroid disorder including Gravesdisease, nodular goiter, and thyroid cancer. Patients with Gravesdisease may also have concomitant conditions of sarcoidosis affecting the lungs. Patients with systemic sarcoidosis may also develop sarcoid lesions in various organs including the thyroid gland.
710534 tn?1264352757 I had Graves Disease and then had the radioactive iodine therapy to kill my thyroid. It got rid of the Graves Disease, but now I'm Hypothyroid. I think removal of the thyroid would also cancel out the disease.
Avatar n tn However, there remains a chance of hypothyroidism and other complications, and not all Grave disease patients are suitable for this. Please discuss with your treating specialist. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi All, I was just diagnosed with Graves (this morning, though I've known for awhile it was either Graves or Hashi's) and I also have Vitiligo. My doctor mentioned that now that I have two autoimmne disease I need to keep an eye out for more because they clustered. I was wondering if anyone here has more than one, and how they handle it? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Sorry, gonna chime in here. Hope you don't mind. I also have Graves Disease. Graves Disease is a complicated Autoimmune Disease. However, it would not cause lesions in the brain or spine. I know this because I just had a visit with my Endo this week after a Neurologist found several T2 FLAIR lesions throughout my Supratentorial region. I now have to do more testing.
Avatar n tn Common disorders causing paraesthesias are rheumatoid arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome transient ischemic attack, motor neurone disease, or autoimmune disorders like multiple sclerosis or lupus erythematosus. A diagnostic evaluation by a doctor is necessary to rule these out. Treatment will depend on the diagnosis. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing and if you have any additional queries.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else been diagnosed with both Grave's Disease and Hashimoto's Disease? About 15 yrs ago I was put on thyroid meds, very low dose, but was never diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Took it for about 3 yrs and then my dr said my reading was fine and took me off of it. Now 15 yrs later everything is out a wack with EVERYTHING and I've been diagnosed with Grave's Disease. At this time the Grave's is winning out and messing with my heart.
377600 tn?1225163436 When I did a lot of research on my thyroid gland, I found that scientists are looking into viewing Hashimoto's and Grave's disease as one disease--Autoimmune Thyroid Disease or Autoimmune Thyroiditis. Why? The immune system attacks both sufferers. In fact, I was given a Grave's diagnosis the first year and Hashimoto's the second year--after my gland finally died. Scientists see them as polar ends of a disease spectrum.
Avatar f tn 3IU/ml and anti peroxidase is more than 1000IU/ml(i have family history of rheuamtoid arthritis in my father family my grand mother and my aunt) Question:is this graves disease or there is liability to be malignant?
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
