Avatar m tn A partial seizure involving the face often lasts longer and occurs more frequently than a facial tic that happens in conjunction with a larger, grand mal seizure. Dogs who are severely affected by facial mal seizures may suffer as many as five to 10 episodes an hour, or as few as one every few months. Facial seizures that accompany grand mal seizures most often occur in the aura phase of a seizure.
Avatar m tn Those are basically what are considered to be grand mal seizures. Petite mal seizures can be anything from a twitching of the head to a state of catatonia for a brief time, which sounds more or less like what your girl had. Please let us know what the vet says when you do get to take her in. Good luck to you! It's very scary when something is wrong with one of our furkids and we don't know what it is.
Avatar f tn My son had an isolated grand mal seizure recently after having had removal of pineal tumor 5 yrs.ago and I`m wondering the possible causes for this.
Avatar n tn If your vet suspects a brain tumor, essential oils are probably not going to be of much help depending on how large the tumor is and what part of the brain it is located in. If it is malignant and she is already having grand mal cluster seizures, it's kind of doubtful that even medication will help much at this point. If it's a benign tumor, however, and it can be removed, then that would be the way to go and then determine which treatment would be best afterward.
6534561 tn?1382226779 I saw one petit mal seizure that day but no grand mal seizures for a week. Incidentally, I brought my mom home after a brief stay at hospice to die on July 1. She had lived with me for the past 2 1/2 yrs and had been on oxygen every now and then. Nat resumed grand mal seizures the day after mom came back home. She died a few days later. A few days after that, Nat stopped having seizures.
Avatar m tn We have an 8 year old Lab/Shepard mix who had a grand mal seizure in the middle of the night. The Vet wanted to wait to start any med's to see if the seizure was from a toxin or something more serious. Six weeks later he had another seizure, this time we'd done our research and used a medical grade essential oil during the seizure which brought him out of the seizure quickly.

Avatar m tn My golden who turns 14 in two days had a grand mal seizure at the beginning of November, then was seizure-free until the beginning of February. She had three seizures over a 72-hour period so the vet put her on phenobarbital, 75mg twice a day.
Avatar f tn after a few seconds of half laying down half sitting up, he falls backwards and begins to go into what would be described as a grand mal seizure. I have to say that I was pretty terrified. He snapped out of it within about 30 seconds to a minute. My father is an emergency room doctor and a physician; I disregarded my friend and asked my father what he thought, to which he said that he needs to get it checked out.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with grand-mal seizures when Iwas 15 yoa after having my first grand mal seizure. After batteries of tests through the years (I am now 53 and seizure free for 18 years), I have never been given a reason for why. After 36 years of being on Dilantin and those side effects, I was placed on Topamax in the last year and have tolerated it well so far.
Avatar n tn In her late teenage years she had absent seizures about once every 1 to 2 months. Then in 2007 she had a grand mal seizure due to some of the scar tissue had broken off or moved.. The Dr started her on 300 mg of trileptal. Then Aug 2008 she had another grand mal seizure. So, they up the meds to 900 mg. Her absent seizures went completely away. But, she had another seizure in Feb 2009. So, they up the meds to 1200mg.

Avatar f tn I am 29, and had my 2nd Mirena IUD inserted in January of this year (2012), because I had it before and loved it. Well On February 9th I had my first ever grand mal seizure and stopped breathing. I began spotting the next day. I had no period for March or April and then On May 10th at 2am, I had a grand mal seizure again and aspirated on my own vomit causing me to be intabated. I began spotting when I awoke around noon on the 10th.
Avatar m tn (I was born in 1951.) Prior to 1962 I would have grand mal seizures and the seizures were controlled by Phenobarbital. The seizures came back in 1995 and I would suffer both grand mal and partial-complex seizures. The seizures were not able to be controlled with medications. In 2009 I had an operation that removed my right hippocampus. Since that time I have had five grand mal seizures but no partial-complex seizures. The seizures are not being controlled by Lamictal and Trileptal.
Avatar n tn hence menstrual periods, postpartum interval, menopause, starting/stopping hormonal medications are all times when seizure activity may be reawakened. Pregnancy, because the hormonal environment is rich in progesterone, an agent known to calm seizure activity, is often a time of few seizures and postpartum when the hormone vanishes a time of increased seizure activity. Discussion with a neurologist who has interest in seizure (there are neurologists who specialize in epilepsy) may be helpful.

Avatar f tn My 43 year old daughter has been diagnosed with epilepsy with a hemiangioma on her left temporal lobe. She has had petitmal seizures for the past 10 years, she chalked them up to high strees. In Oct '07 she had a grand mal seizure, was prescribed Tegratol but did not take the medicine. In Dec '07 she has a second grand mal seizure and began her meds which have been increased from time to time.
Avatar f tn Now nearly 3 years ago I had brain surgery (left temporal lob resection) and went a little over a year seizure free. Then I had a grand mal seizure. Was doing fine and all of a sudden started having seizures in a different form that I've never had before. I feel like I'm going into a grand mal seizure. My body jerks and it's over quickly. I will sometimes yell out before. I also get the feeling that my brain is jumping all around. What does all this mean?
Avatar n tn Six months ago I was camping and had a hypoglycemic grand mal seizure that lasted approx. 1 1/2 hours (the person I was with did not know what to do). I won't go into the short-term complications I experienced. However, I still experience weakness and mild pain in my lungs and periodic studdering. What are the long-term complications of a sustained seizure? Why do my lungs still hurt! Thank you so much!
Avatar n tn This time I had what doctors described as a generalized grand mal siezure. I was standing in the kitchen talking to my wife and my next thought was "Why are these paramedics standing over me"? According to her, I stood in front of her and stared at her for 30 seconds, stumbled towards the refrigerator, and collapsed on the floor. She said I was jerking all over in a rythm(as opposed to randomly). My total unconciousness lasted 6-7 minutes.
Avatar m tn Not sure what is worse, having a grand mal seizure at night and waking up in a different area of your room in your own 'fluids', or having one when you are awake and knowing you are in one and then passing out; which was the case this past October. Can one develop a tolerance to a seizure medication? My choices are limited due to the fact that I have problems with my liver. Depakote, dilantin and anything that is processed mainly through the liver are out.
