Avatar n tn I am a 23 year old female and have been having PVC's (premature ventricular contractions). I first noticed palpitations two years ago. It feels like your heart is skipping a beat yet there is a very powerful heartbeat afterwards. Sometimes mine are accompanied by shortness of breath, especially if I have several in one minute. I had a normal EKG at my primary care physician last year and no follow up, so I just tried to forget about about it. This year they returned.
Avatar n tn Adrenaline raises glucose levels by stimulating the liver to change glycogen into glucose. When normal glucose regulation fails with type 2 diabetics, the kidneys are forced to remove excess glucose via the urinary tract. This usually is caused by insulin deficiency. In your case this does not apply. I have read that one of the common symptoms of POTS is reactive hypoglycemia, lowering of glucose.
Avatar n tn After pushing some, I got a glucose tolerance test. At 1 hour I tested at 118. At 2 hours I was at 98. This is confusing. I tested again after a carby meal, was 161 at 2 hours. So curious, upon waking one day, I drank a 20oz coke with slightly less carbs given in a glucose test(I think 65). I checked, and sure enough, had similar normal readings like in the glucose tolerance test. My Dr.
390388 tn?1279636213 t do much for your condition by trying to lose weight by only eating 1 or 2 meals a day. Eat smaller low calorie, high protein meals spread out throughout the day and I am sure you'll feel better. Protein and a little bit of fat slows down digestion and slowly releases carbs into the blood stream, which is most likely why she told you to have protein, a little bit of fat, and some carbs with each meal.
Avatar n tn m seeing an endocrinologist on the11th. Should I request a glucose tolerance test? Maybe Im not diabetic, but my symptoms seem to lean that way.
390388 tn?1279636213 So a glucose tolerance test has to be done to tell whether or not the cells are getting the glucose. If the blood sugar is too high after a meal then the glucose is still floating around in the blood stream and not getting to the cells as it should. The pancreas will keep pumping out insulin so eventually it goes back down to a normal level and that explains why it's not uncommon for people to be a type 2 diabetic for years and not know it.
Avatar f tn Did you have a fasting glucose test, blood sugar, urine glucose, glucose tolerance (GTT)? A hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c) that most doctors use to determine whether the patient is pre-diabetic, a diabetic, or not at all. Answers to these question will help. Your correction to diet and exercise will play a large part in staying healthy. Keep it up, you'll like yourself more and feel a whole lot better too.
Avatar n tn I wasn't for sure where to post this question, but I know that the people on this site are a great resource for similar experiences. I am a 20 year old female, 5'8" 110 pounds (skinny, I know) and I don't have medical insurance, but was given an oral glucose tolerance test through the health department. I am a college student who works full-time, and I will have insurance when I graduate.
Avatar f tn I lost all the weight and I want to do the “glucose tolerance test” again to confirm or discard the possibility of having diabetes. At what time should I take the metformin the day before the test? How long does metformin stay in your body?? I do not want metformin to mask/change my glucose/insulin numbers.
Avatar f tn So I did my 1 hour glucose tolerance last week and got my results today. Kinda upset...they came back abnormal. They like for the glucose to be under 140 and mine was 164. About 3 hours after drinking the glucola last week my sugar dropped to 42, luckily I'm a nurse and noticed what was going on and immediately checked my sugar and then ate. But anyway...I go back on Friday to do my 3 hour glucose and am so nervous it is going to come back positive too.
Avatar n tn Yes just 1 test can be wrong. Ask for an OGG test Oral Glucose Tolerance test. Make sure that when they do the test that they test your BG every 30 min for 3 hours.
1452593 tn?1285187324 Oh, I'm used to hearing that referred to as a OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test). I'm only aware of its use as a diagnostic tool to test first and second phase insulin responses. It's more useful than a fasting blood sugar for diagnosis, because some people still have normal fasting, long after they've developed impaired glucose tolerance, so it catches those people who are pre-diabetic or diabetic sooner.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had gestational diabetes?? Took the 1 hour glucose tolerance test and they called and said i have to come back for the three hour i go on Wednesday. grrrrr so frustrated, scared, nervous because i don't want to be doing any harm to my baby. How much should i worry what should i do now??
Avatar f tn That being said, have you had the 3 or 6 hour glucose tolerance test or an A1c test. Either one of these tests may be warranted to truly rule out a hidden blood sugar disorder. I hope you feel better soon. God bless you.
Avatar m tn Did your doc give you a glucose tolerance test? Any history of migraine headaches? It's a lot of symptoms and could be so many things, and there are no doctors on this forum, but sometimes doctors aren't the best at determining blood sugar imbalances unless they are quite large and noticeable. Lesser imbalances can have a profound effect on some people. But again, those symptoms could be caused by a lot of things, including medication.
1715257 tn?1308732738 Glucose intolerance is really sensitivity towards the glucose-sugar levels. If one actually balance the meals, glucose can be replaced with fibers containing similar materials of glucose such as stuff found in apples and pineapples. Those fruits also can cure your numbness. I hope it helps.
Avatar f tn The second test was normal. I had a fasting glucose tolerence test. The result of the first blood test was 10.0. They then gave me a glucose drink and took the 2nd blood test 2 hours later. The result was 3.9. They then gave me 2 slices of toast and let me go. I went outside and within minutes I was almost on the floor. The feeling did pass but took over an hour. The consultant has now referred me to Endocrinology. Im not sure what they do there.
Avatar n tn Now a dx of Diabetic Type II has been made based on a 3-hour Glucose Tolerance Test. Told that Dr a year ago there was more going on that merely Thyroid and Perimenopause. Was I ever right! Turns out that in an overview of regular blood tests, I don't indicate any problems. Because of that, he turly believed nothing would be found abnormal. Fasting blood glucose is still in the Normal range despite it takes 3 hours on the GTT for my glucose to get back to a normal level.
4141598 tn?1353918254 Just because you had a positive glucose screening test, it does not necessarily mean that you definitely have gestational diabetes. YOu will need to go for a second (longer) glucose tolerance test. You need to ask your doctor if you have to fast for this test. Usually water is OK, but you should ask ahead of time just to be sure- you don't want to have to repeat it. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I just had my insulin tested this past October - December. This first test was done as part of a 2-hour glucose tolerance test. My lab report shows normal insulin to be 3 - 28 micro IU/ml. My doctor had me come back in for re-test and did not require fasting. So, I don't believe the normal 3 - 28 range is necessarily fasting. I would LOVE to have an insulin level of 3.0. On my first test my insulin was a whopping 151. My re-test in December showed my level was 17.
Avatar n tn I'm a 53 year old woman who just had a 3 hour glucose tolerance test, here are my results: Fasting - 106 1 hour - 210 2 hour - 230 3 hour - 167 I'm not sure if these results mean I'm a pre-diabetic or diabetic. Thank you for your help in advance.
5864651 tn?1396931970 I was was wondering what the glucose tolerance test involved I live in the uk and have the 3 hour one on the 8th of january im currently 27w1d. All that it says on the letter ive got from the hospital is that its 3 hour and I have to starve myself and only drink water from 11 oclock the night before.
Avatar m tn You say you were tested for diabetes? Well, sometimes low blood sugar can cause the sleepiness after eating, have you had a glucose tolerance test performed?
Avatar n tn I started testing myself. Sticking my finger causes added anxiety. Fasting is ok. But after meals is always high. I did a glucose tolerance test, and came back well within normal. Yet high post meal readings continue. The Dr said it was likely dude to stress hormones effecting the digestion process, which wouldn't the liquid sugar load in a glucose tolerance test. Despite this, I continue to obsess, test like crazy, and I guess from the stress, continue to get scary high post meal numbers.
