Glucose homeostasis and the kidney

Common Questions and Answers about Glucose homeostasis and the kidney

Avatar m tn If the uncontrollable blood pressure is due to the kidneys, a kidney function test and Doppler study of the renal artery may help determine if the cause is due to the kidneys. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn m concerned about this being the beginning of Kidney disease or failure even though my creatinine and bun are fine.  Oh and I don't drink alcohol and I'm not a recovering alcoholic.  Is it normal for my ca to fluctuate like that in just 2 months? What are the possible causes for my high pth. I have researched the heck out of ca homeostasis and I am stumped with my results. I take in enough ca etc in my diet as well. Should I be concerned? Thanks!
Tbd Postprandial hyperglycemia is also one of the earliest abnormalities of glucose homeostasis associated with type 2 diabetes" https://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/24/4/775 So test 1-2 hours after a meal. As a pure guess, I'd think that once a month is sufficient - unless you change your diet or activity or other risk factors.
Avatar m tn Kidney failure has been associated with uncontrolled and badly managed glucose levels. It would benefit you the most if you lowered your glucose levels to normal values. Your current glucose daily average - based upon your A1c 9.9% - is between 11.8-13.3 mmol/l [212-240 mg/dl]. HIGH. Foods? Look at diabetic nutrition and perform daily physical exercises. See this link, especially the paragraph on GFR http://www.kidney.org/kidneydisease/ckd/knowGFR.
592256 tn?1353249474 I must agree with the above comment. It is important to continue on the insulin and follow your physicians instructions. Question the doctor, tell him/her what you are doing but please, please follow their care instructions, I am not on insulin (yet) however I know people who are. One has loss use of his kidney's completely. He has already had 2 toes amputated. I myself am at stage 1 Kidney disease and very much overweight.
Avatar m tn Paderla Anitha Thank you! I am 46 and did drink a lot in my twenties and early thirties and have since abstained and eat a healthy diet but probably not as many fruits and veggies as I could.......but the processed stuff is long gone. Is there any supplements I could use to help my liver out? I was just found diabetec in 2009 but this was when I was undergoing steriod shots for my back. Obese yes and something changed to where I am about unable to lose weight....
Avatar f tn Cr exceeds 20, this is predictive of prerenal injury (kidney disease caused by change in the blood supply to the kidney). Kidney disease or blockage of the flow of urine from your kidney causes both BUN and creatinine levels to rise. The stages of CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) are mainly based on measured or estimated GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate). There are five stages but kidney function is normal in Stage 1, and minimally reduced in Stage 2.
Avatar m tn I consulted urologist with sugar reports and told abt my problems, looking at the reports he said i dont have diabetes.. And asked me to go for the diagnosis of creatinine and ultrasound of bladder with prevoid and postvoid and liver size, kidney sizes and some other things.. Everything came out normal(kidney sizes, liver sizes, prevoid, postvoid, cretinine report) and also i did not notice any change in thirsty levels.
Avatar f tn I checked again this morning and it was 112 which it’s never been that high.
6695047 tn?1383854549 They was no difference. And despite the drop at the weekend, his bloods have stubbornly remained the same since. Although phosphate has come down (yay!) his Urea and Creatinine are still high despite 200ml fluids a day. He is also still bright and active and wants to go outside and wander about (he is supervised on his outings before people gasp in horror! lol). He has reached what my vet is saying is a homeostasis phase which, as has been the case with Riggs, is very odd for an AKD cat.
Avatar f tn It was difficult at first to regulate my glucose and other effects but evenutally I was able to control the disease- my glucose levels, eating on time and medicine intake. However, I was diagnosed with hypertension recently and on medication for it. As I got older, my symptoms changed as well, whether it was signs of low or high gluscose, energy levels etc. I plan on discussing this with my doctor.
Avatar f tn I went to my doc and she gave me Cipro for about 7 days redid uti test and my blood pressure was 107/70 and the glucose from the previous test showed glucose levels were in the "normal' range. Ok let me just say I'm a bit freaked out. My biology teacher told us a story of how he was hiking the grand canyon and fell off is horse and had bloody urine (knowing he had damaged himself ), and knew he needed medical help. Here I am no injury and I'm have red bloody urine.
Avatar f tn (Kale, spinach and carrots). He used to love eating Blueberries, Apple and Cucumber, and he just refused to eat the fruits. Went to vet on his bday, he just gave him appetite stimulant. The following day, no improvemt at all. After shampoo and grooming, I requested to have his blood works done . Got the result Thursday (BUN r42, Glucose 559, Creattinkine 2.0, A ST 69, ALP 620, WBC 31.3, Neutrophils 26.85, Monoccytes 1.9, Platelets 529, Cholesterol 345, Creatine Kinase 397, IDEXX SDMA 19).
Avatar m tn Could it be that doing a low carb diet, made your body get the energy from the proteins and fats, and since the body didn´t get the energy from glucose, the little carbs you ate, kept on circulating in your blood? and released through urine?
Avatar n tn You currently take what insulin you need for the available glucose, based on your knowlege of food and exercise. This is sufficient and relatively easy to manage. Varying what is extracted from your food or released by your liver will change everything you know about your diet today, and increasing sensitivity to insulin just makes thing worse.
Avatar m tn Type 2 Diabetes is not because of lack of Insulin but the inability of insulin to perform its task to open up the glucose channels into the cells and when the glucose cannot enter the cells, it bounce back into the bloodstream and causes hyperglycemia.
Avatar m tn We repeated the tests 3 days later and the red count was the same, the glucose even worse.Tomorrow is an abdominal ultrasound and I fear the worst. Vet keeps mentioning pancreatic tumors or kidney tumors. Our family is devastated especially knowing that the dog seems clinically unremarkable. She is a bit quieter than usual, but is eating normally and interacting normally. I imagine this being the end of the journey for her, but in denial perhaps that this could be.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor to get blood and urine work done. Everything was good except for the following glucose 102---range65 - 99 mg/dl calcium serum 10.4---range 8.6 - 10.2 mg/dl total protein 8.2---range6.2 - 8.3 g/dl albumin5.2----range 3.6 - 5.1g/dl creatine, serum 1.20---range.50 - 1.30 mg/dl I dont know what this means? Do I now have diabetes? The first few days after I quit drinking I felt great.
Avatar n tn I guess the office worker got upset when my sister was trying to explain to her that a 480 reading is cause for concern. At this point, I got involved and checked her blood glucose levels. The meter was reading Hi, which indicates a reading of above 600. This was this afternoon. I called her primary care physician's office and explained what was happening. She didn't seem to care much and stated that there were no available appointments.
Avatar m tn Richard Sallie's 'Replicative Homeostasis III' and the extensive references section at the end of his paper might suggest some of the reasons for this. A little light reading for sleepness nights. . If I try explaining it, he might start posting here again, if only to correct my bungled explanations ;-).
Avatar n tn Prominent among these factors is the level of iron in the body. The liver plays an important role in coordinating the regulation of iron homeostasis and is involved in regulating the level of iron absorption in the duodenum and iron recycling by the macrophages. Iron homeostasis is disturbed by several metabolic and genetic disorders, including various forms of hereditary hemochromatosis.
Avatar f tn He has gradually grown accustomed to feeling ill constantly, and still vomits often. I recently read that trauma can upset homeostasis in the abdomen and cause this to happen. It is extremely difficult to watch your child suffer like this, and not be able to help.
Avatar n tn Hi, The nephron is the functional unit of the kidney. They are responsible for the actual purification and filtration of the blood. Being part of the homeostatic mechanism of the body, the nephron helps regulate the amount of water, salts, glucose, urea and other minerals in the body. Avatar f tn My Dad has been Diabetic 2 for the last 30yrs, so I have some idea of it. I was tested twice as a kid with full glucose tolerance tests and seemed to sneak by.I'm adopted though, so it wouldn't be genetic. Weird symptoms this last month: Loss of Appetite (even chocolate) Edema of the hands and feet to start then it spread Nausea and some vomitting intermittently Weight loss, I know I've lost weight but I'm really bloated Beyond thirsty.
