glucose

490398 tn?1319940717 This is NOT a fasting glucose. My dad is diabetic and he has all of the tools to test blood. He has regular diabetes not Type 2 but it usually skips a generation. I had blood taken at the doctor last week, again, not fasting, for other health problems and it came back at 169. My doc obviously wants to retest me when I've been fasting and get an A1c.
1538488 tn?1331483305 My fasting blood glucose is 110-125 mg/dl.hba1c is 7.96. My age is 57 years. After 2 hrs of b/f 165-190mg/dl. No medication.Glucose level slightly increase after exercise in the morning .What action is to be taken?
Avatar n tn ve done finger/arm tests throughout the day and have not had anything remotely abnormal. I had a fasting blood sugar level of 93 first thing in the AM and all my levels after eating were 135 or below. Could the 191 have been error? Should I request to have the one hour test repeated first before I torture myself with the three hour test? Or should I just suck it up and do the test.
975514 tn?1324997938 I recently had a blood test, which included a glucose test. I wasn't fasting. I ate a bowl of whole grain cereal at about 5AM. My test was a 10AM. My uncle has diabetes and my sister is hypoglycemic. I know I get sick if I have a shake from McDonalds, but that's about it. I get really tired and nauseated. I don't drink sugary beverages at all just because I am always watching my weight, but I wonder now how that would effect me?
Avatar m tn d guess, but one thing I did a few months ago was test my fasting glucose maybe an hour before going to have blood drawn for professional lab testing for complete profile. I was getting mid 80s at home, but my glucose came back 106 from the lab.
Avatar f tn I am sure the doctor will get back to you, but you really have to make sure and show this to your child's doctor. I have learned that the blood sugars he is having are not normal and he needs to be seen tomorrow. He needs the follow up testing asap and needs an A1C test. This shows the average blood sugar over the last few months. It showed my daughter to have a glucose intolerance. Good Luck. Becky This is on the american diabetes association website.
Avatar m tn On the diabetes side, the next step is for your doctor to test HA1C so they can see how your levels are on average, including after eating. You also need to buy a blood glucose monitor and start testing fasting levels yourself, as well as levels 2 hours after meals. I expect you'll be put on medication (maybe insulin would be required) with these levels as I doubt given your lifestyle that you could make enough changes to bring it down to normal. Diabetes is manageable.
Avatar f tn 80 and glucose pp: 50 . Why my pp sugar is less than fasting. I experience weakness and feel hungry just after an hour after having meal. I also tested my son for the same n results are glucose fasting:90 glucose pp:85..why is my son sugar pp levels r also less just like me though is not genetically my son. I again tested my son insulin fasting which is 12 and insulin pp which is 18 . This result is more than the range. What does it signify.
Avatar m tn If you want another assessment that is a step further than the fasting blood test, a 2-hour glucose challenge will help tell if you are completely normal, have diabetes or are somewhere in between. It is a very good test as well. Please do not worry too much about this and continue testing yourself over and over again. Your symptoms can come from many other potential sources and are not at all specific to diabetes.
640347 tn?1228533326 KIndly advise me Fasting blood sample means how many hours do we have to be on fasting . that is after dinner how many hours do we have to wait to giv e the sample? some say 8 hrs is enough some say 10 hrs and some say 12 hours . which is correct and exact.
Avatar n tn My doctor discourages daily blood glucose testing unless a patient is on insulin. I do test occasionally (though I feel guilty when I do) and when I test I'm finding that in the a.m. (non-fasting), it's running 300 or more -- this morning it was 321. I'm on Glipizide and Juanvia. When it's running over 300, should I be doing something to bring it down??? What, if I've already taken my medicine for the day?
Avatar m tn This was not a fasting blood test; you had eaten carbs about two hours and then again one hour prior to testing, so 115 is within normal parameters. Had you been fasting, 115 would've indicated pre-diabetes, but not in this case since you had eaten. Your doctor should have given you an A1c test which is a non fasting test . It provides an average of your blood sugar over the past 3 months. She should do that test now in addition to a fasting test as well.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for a 3hr glucose test and complete blood work up on Monday. Saying that I'm terrified is an understatement. I did a 1hr test at my first appointment and was so sick. Needles, nasty orange drink and fasting is not how I pictured my pregnancy. Any words of advice?
709686 tn?1277432159 re concerned about your blood glucose levels, you can purchase a glucose monitor pretty cheaply at drug stores. I got one a few years ago for $10 at CVS. They usually come with 10 test strips and 10 lancets and instructions, which should be plenty to check your blood sugar throughout a couple of days. Extra test strips can be pricy. If you go this route, most recommend checking your blood sugar first thing in the morning (fasting) and 2 hours after meals.
Avatar n tn B/c it has been happening more and more often, I said something to my doctor. I had just had a yearly exam and my blood sugar (non-fasting) was 80 and no sugar in my urine. She said that was good and there was no need for further testing. My question is: does a fasting or glucose tolerance test need to be done to diagnose diabetes (or hypoglycemia), or is this non-fasting number sufficient to suggest there is nothing wrong? thanks.
1654177 tn?1319838494 Anyway, I told my doctor at Kaiser and she ran a random blood glucose test (non-fasting). My blood sugar was 68 ml/dl, the standard range is 70-140 ml/dl. She says to just eat less carbs and do more cardio exercise, and that this could be pre-diabetes. The part that concerns me is the numb feet. I have cut down carbs in the past 2 weks and continued to exercise more, but still my feet are numb, and hurt sometimes. Any advice?
Avatar n tn without any glucose. I underwent a fasting blood glucose test which showed a level of 5.3 mmol/l (95.4 mg/dl). today on testing my urine about 30 mins after 250ml of coke and 3 sweet biscuits there was NO glucose in the urine. Can anyone explain why the first test was positive?
Avatar f tn Hello, I've never been concerned about diabetes before as my fasting blood glucose levels have always been under 100. However, my last fasting glucose test as well as my husband's were both high (mine 127, his 140). The doctor had us return for A1c tests which were in the normal range (mine 5.6, his 5.5). Based on that, the doctor assumed we had eaten something before the fasting test and said, 'see you in 3 months'. But we didn't eat anything.
Avatar m tn Both of your values suggest that you have impaired fasting glucose (range 100 - 125). The measurement is the same in fasting and non fasting testing - the difference is in the reference range. A normal fasting glucose is < 100 and the current thinking seems to be that even a result in the mid to high 90s might suggest close monitoring. The answer to your question is that it doesn't matter whether they call it non fasting or fasting glucose test result.
Avatar f tn Some doctors say this is normal while others contend that a normal person would return to normal fasting levels. Testing your glucose should be handled as such: OGTT [Oral Glucose Tolerance Test] - You will be given a sugary substance then tested at different intervals to see how well your body handles the excess sugar. A1c test - will provide a mean glucose measurement. The test result is in % [percentile].
514349 tn?1272801633 Get enough sleep If you are wanting to pursue this further, you could get a home blood glucose meter to start testing blood sugars in response to foods. Avoid those foods that raise your blood sugars higher than about 120, 1.5 to 2 hours after eating. Hope this helps. Please come back and ask more questions.
Avatar n tn In fasting for a Cholesterol test, what happens when blood sugar gets too low? Will 2 or 3 glucotablets ruin the test? My doctor insists on at least 3 hours fast before the blood test, if my glucose level is too low to drive safely it's a waste anyway. Does anyone have the answer? (I won't do an overnight fast, had problems at the lab last time with low blood sugar - my husband was driving - thank goodness).
