Avatar n tn Fasting for blood work related to checking for glucose and diabetes warrants fasting for at least 8 hours and most doctors will say 12 hours. And blood work will also look at other things like your lipid profile or possibly metabolic profile as well. https://www.webmd.com/cholesterol-management/fasting-blood-tests#1 But you want to know when the blood draw is so you can plan accordingly.
Avatar m tn I have no history of medical illness, I had lots of blood work done in September 2013 including a Full Blood Count, IgA, Lipids Fasting, Glucose Fasting, Bone Profile, Thyroid Function, Anti TTG and Glucose Fasting. I had high blood sugar levels of 7.9mmo/l and 6.7mmo/l. Can anyone possibly comprehend what could be wrong with me? I also suffer from anxiety and depression currently but I think this has been brought on by not knowing what is causing my daily episodes of retching.
Avatar n tn I am fit, eat well and exercise regularly. I had a complete physical one month ago and the doctor sent me the blood work results. At the bottom he wrote "all test results look very good" Next to the lipid profile he wrote "excellent". The problem is, the glucose number (after fasting) was 125. The reference rage on that line was 70-126. My last phsyical 2 years prior with a different doctor included complete blood work.
Avatar f tn Blood glucose test measures the level of glucose in the blood. It cannot tell you the reason behind the high glucose level in the blood. If you develop insulin resistance, then naturally your blood glucose level rises. However in your case the glucose level is normal. If your insulin test comes positive, then you can develop high blood sugar levels in the future. Do let me know if there is any thing else you want to know and please keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn You need to consult a neurologist for a clinical evaluation and investigations like blood test including blood glucose profile, MRI spine to check for any disc degeneration or herniation causing nerve compression. Wish you all the best.

Avatar n tn Okay - I know when you eat, Carbs turn to sugar and in order to keep your Blood Glucose down you take insulin so you can turn Carbs into energy. So then - why would you want to "reduce" or "SUSPEND" your insulin pump basal temporarily during your active period when you go jogging or hiking or cycling or anything active? Don't you need the insulin to convert sugar to energy in order to be active?
Avatar m tn You need to use your own glucose meter and to religiously take blood samples until you get a handle on glucose control. This includes a few weeks of intense testing, to include baseline levels when you awake, before and after each meal, and two hours after each meal, along with a precise calorie count and diary of your food. Later on you can reduce the number of blood sticks. You can't eat like a "normal person".
645800 tn?1466860955 m aware a seafood itself is a good diabetic choice as it does not have any carbohydrate so it will not cause blood glucose to rise, but most fried foods can affect your blood sugar because fat slows down digestion and can cause delayed high glucose levels, theoretically shrimps ok but fry anything and it's not....
Avatar f tn After three rounds of Interferon, Ribaviron, and something else, each for 48 weeks, I am left with high fasting blood glucose and A1C of 6.0. My fasting sugars range from 134 to 160. They used to be 104 or less. I went to diabetes center for diet counseling, I walk and ride my bicycle 6 times a week, weather permitting and still may have to get pills to control this blood sugar problem. The diet modifications have not helped. I have no family history of diabetes. MCV is also out of range.

Avatar n tn Hello, A diet that includes fruits, vegetables, fiber-containing foods, and low-fat milk is advised. Consumption of foods with a low glucose levels appears to reduce postprandial glucose rise and improve glycemic control. Reduced calorie and nonnutritive sweeteners(better avoided in epileptics) are useful.
