Avatar f tn Why exactly does this medication cause diabetes? I was told that it cause weight gain, and it was the weight gain which cause diabetes? But I lost 40lbs and my glucose numbers worsened after a year instead of improving. What does that medication do concerning glucose tolerance????

Avatar n tn Many type 1 diabetics find that they gain weight when their doctors work to normalize their glucose levels, and they tend to blame insulin for making them gain weight. The real cause is that their carbohydrate foods are being used better when insulin is working.
Avatar f tn Ive been on a low carb diet and watching my sugar intake etc. Like i said the doctor just told me to watch my weight gain and what i eat which i have been.
Avatar n tn Eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day to provide your body with the minerals and nutrients needed for healthy weight gain before training. Fruits and vegetables contain glucose, which will provide your body with the necessary energy for a successful workout. In addition, the high fiber content in fruits and vegetables will prevent constipation that may occur when eating large amounts of carbs and proteins. A serving is about the size of a tennis ball, or one cup.
Avatar f tn I was overweight before I for pregnant and at first they said they only wanted me to gain 20, but no one has mentioned my weight. I walk 2 miles a day and my doctor says that's great.
Avatar f tn Thank you ladies! I try not to worry about the numbers on the scale . But I'm just so tiny idk where I've gained 27 pounds lol my dr hasn't said anything about my weight gain, and everything has been fine. My next appt is Friday and I'll doing the glucose test so I'll ask then if my weight gain is an issue. I do plan to breastfeed so hopefully that helps me lose weight too!
Avatar f tn I've always been thin, am 5'2 and at most weighed 120, usually 112-115. For the last 2 years I have just gained consistently and was last at 133 despite healthy eating and watching calories. I am not pregnant but all my weight seems to go to my thighs, upper arms and breasts. My face hasn't changed at all and my stomach is relatively flat depending on bloating. Which can be considerable on some days making me look 6 months pregnant. This bloating also makes me feel terrible.
Avatar m tn Suggest eating more protein foods, such as yogurt, eggs, cheese, and milk with your meals to help you gain weight and lower your glucose levels. Suggest eating a light snack of protein food with starch just before bed and see if your morning levels go down. If not, stop the snack and speak with your Doctor. Thank you for your question.
Avatar f tn Have to fight pretty hard to avoid problems and weight gain lead to too much glucose (sugar) in body once a few years ago. But tried mirtazapine again in 2010 and now and it seems to be helping the depression with less problems than effexor like nausea and strange dreams. But now weight is going back down and I shop for more fruits and drink diet soda's. I know there are healthier things to drink, but it was on sale.... :) Cranberry juice is healthy too.
Avatar f tn Congrats on your weight gain and I hope you pass it mama!
Avatar f tn this is my first pregnancy but I'm 23weeks and almost already gain the estimated weight gain for the whole pregnancy..coincidently around this time my daughter will be gaining weight and packing on fat and I don't know if there is any turning back, I don't feel huge but the scale doesn't lie lol should I change my diet?? What workouts could I do?? Or have am I just bound to be to continue gaining weight??
Avatar n tn What you don't say in your post is how you eat? That is what makes you gain weight, not insulin per se! Some Type 1's assume they can eat whatever they want and cover it with insulin. So they take higher doses of insulin and sometimes even have to eat more to match the insulin dose instead of the reverse. Usually Insulin Resistance is a Type II problem but Type 1's who gain weight can also develop resistance which then makes them gain more weight so it is a vicious cycle.
384863 tn?1224749755 While I accept and understand your concern about wight gain, perhaps the more important bit of information in your initial posting is that with your perscribed insulin dosage "My blood sugar is still not under control" I suggest you check with your doctor about getting your glucose under control first and then work to reduce your weight.
1021834 tn?1379292300 Thanks for the advice and well wishes! I get the feeling that the weight gain is right around the corner and I better enjoy this little bit of freedom. One thing that's kind of nice; I feel like what I didn't gain the first trimester or so, I get to gain the last two. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Xmas here I come! Yum, yum.
Avatar n tn If you are not having regular periods and gaining weight you may also have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and should have your hormones checked for this as well and have a 2 hour glucose tolerance test with a 75 gram glucose challenge to rule out diabetes or pre-diabetes. Please go to a doctor who is willing to do this kind of assessment and testing.
Avatar f tn I go next week for the glucose test.
Avatar f tn Go to an Endocrinologist and ask to have your TSH levels checked and an ultrasound done on the thyroid. Your obgyn should be concerned about excessive weight gain during pregnancy which could lead to gestational (or permanent) diabetes. Good luck!
Avatar f tn now I am being put on 5 mg of methimazole, and I’m reading that this will slow my metabolism and cause weight GAIN! I am so bummed and frustrated. Can I ever shed this weight? I had lost 50 lbs 5 years ago, and I am depressed after putting on so much. Any advice??

Avatar f tn I thought I would be in trouble with the weight gain. I am 36 weeks pregnant and way the same as my pre pregnancy weight and am not overweight at all. But, since I had a few ultrasounds done and I measured out perfectly. Doctors say baby and I are healthy..just dont lose weight..
Avatar n tn I realize metabolic rates slow down as we age, but it also seems that I have to really starve myself for any weight to budge and exercise is kind of so-so on it all. Has anybody experienced weight gain AFTER Synthroid treatment for Hashimoto's? I realize the weight gain usually is a symptom, not a result. Thanks very much.
