Avatar f tn He may not have the enzymes to utilize the Glucosamine like he did before the gastric tube. Glucosamine Hcl is cheaper and it is harder for the body to utilize than the higher quality Glucosamine sulfate. With that being said, Glucosamine sulfate is commonly use in people who have GI problems because it helps to protect the mucus membranes and heal injuried tissue. It is a very important supplement in IBS, Chrones disease, ulcers etc., I feel really bad for you and your dad.
Avatar f tn m overweight and had a baby 5 years ago. Since then I occasionally get this gas where I have to force it out with a gag or like it gets trapped in my throat. I'm a medical student but don't know enough to understand just enough to have medical schoolitis... if part of my stomach is through the diaphragm causing increased pressure in my esophagus and stomach, would that cause this weird gas trapping?
Avatar n tn i have been passing foul-smelling gas and stools for a few months now. i eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, exercise plenty, drink plenty of water and take multi-vitamins, glucosamine and cod liver oil daily. i am 25 years old and am not a vegetarian or vegan. what is likely to be the cause of this problem?
Avatar f tn In the meantime, you can try taking hcl capsules. Get them at the health food store. Pure hcl, no other digestive enzymes added. (Buy Omega Zyme by Garden of Life if you want to take a digestive enzyme with no hcl in it with your meals too) Take 1 cap of hcl with each meal. If you feel no stomach burning, take 2 with the next meal, if you feel no stomach burning, take 3 with the next meal and so on until your stomach burns a little. Once it does, go back one pill.
Avatar n tn Also, I probably have very low stomach acid, and I do better if I take a Betaine HCl capsule before meals. Taking digestive enzymes and Betaine HCl helps to prevent the terrible bloating/need-to-burp symptom. But I don't think it's merely an issue of poor digestion, since the problem is worse when I eat sugar (which is easy to digest). I think it's some sort of bacteria or parasite that comes out to play when I eat, particularly when I eat things it likes.
Avatar n tn I mean, how is it that millions of people on PPIs are making too much HCl? Hyperchlorhydria or too much stomach acid is rather rare. If you're overeating, eating junk food or other food that is hard to digest, eating when stressed, living under stress, chances are much greater that you don't make enough hydrochloric acid or digestive enzymes and your symptoms stem from that. Take a look at some of the symptoms caused by low stomach acid.
Avatar f tn Sometimes it feels as if I have tons of trapped gas or something as I can literally feel it moving around in my stomach. Last week I had a bout of diarrhea which definitely felt like a stomach flu and my daughter had it too. After that stopped I've pretty much been constipated since. I've only has a BM once since that illness which was 6 days ago. I did not take any anti-diarrhea medicine either or any medicine for that matter.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thanks for your encouragement. It wasn't tile cleaner. It was muriatic acid which is industrial grade hcl. I was just worried (and still am a little). I do know that the stomach contains hcl (my undergrad was a double math bio major but thanks)... I hope I don't worry this much about EVERYTHING during my pregnancy...

Avatar m tn When I read low stomach acid is the main reason for acid reflux conditions, I took her off acid blocker nexium and started her on betaine HCL with pepsin to increase stomach acid and digestive enzymes to improve digestion as well. It was by accident actually that we found out betaine HCL with pepsin supplements and digestive enzyme supplements got rid of gastritis pain as well GERD/LPR.
Avatar m tn If you suffer from vitamin deficiency specifically vitamin d and k or also calcium deficient. If you are suffering from gas, are lactos intolerant or gluten intolerant then you have bad bacteria in your gut and probably celiac disease. My guess is that PATM is a cause of many factors specifically bad bacteria in the gut. Bad bacteria in the gut poops toxins which can cause many side effects like gas bloating etc...., good bacteria poops vitamins and minerals.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
161647 tn?1280608163 The only thing I can think of was that my mom started taking Glucosamine last year. Can the Glucosamine affect eye vision. Or does anyone have any suggestions. Avatar f tn In this group, 18 patients (82%) were almost completely relieved by HCl therapy. In another report, administration of dilute HCl altered the putrefactive flora ordinarily present in the small intestine of achlorhydric individuals. According to the second report, therapeutic use of dilute HCl has fallen into disrepute, largely on theoretical grounds. However, many capable internists and dermatologists remain convinced, on the basis of clinical experience, that acid therapy is beneficial.
1093971 tn?1257833640 Not all glucosamine products are created equal. In order to best evaluate a product, you need to consider several things. When your healthcare and joint discomfort is at stake, take a moment and consider these criteria: What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame.
Avatar m tn I tried a 2 week eliminate all fats diet, I tried 2 weeks with no dairy, 2 weeks with no sugar. I take vitamins and probiotics. I have tried gas-x and lactaid, no help from either. I have read something recently saying that a deviated septum could cause GI problems, it didn't go into a whole lot of detail and I am not sure how common this is, but I am trying to explore any other options to resolve this.
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I believe the reason is because carbohydrate malabsorption feeds small intestinal bacterial overgrowth - producing gas that drives acid reflux. I have listed nine bullet points of evidence withh numerous references for my theory in an article on GERD and asthma at DigestiveHealthInstitute.org. Norm Robillard, Ph.D.
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
