glucophage

Avatar n tn HI, There is no specific vitamin as a treatment for PCOS. However if you are trying for a natural pregnancy then folic acid can be taken. Weight loss gives dramatic results in women who are obese. Consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation. Hope this helps.
1500096 tn?1292945593 In addition to my observation, i sometimes feel sick and nauseous. I feel hungry most of the time that i will feel as if i've not eaten in days. Is it normal to have all these symptoms while using the drugs(glucophage)?. Pls i earnestly await ur reply. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Metformin may contribute to weight loss in some diabetics.(11) However, weight loss does not appear to be one of its primary benefits. Glucophage may also be of some value improving success with in vitro fertilization, lowering cholesterol, and improving energy.
Avatar n tn Metformin (Glucophage) must be taken with food otherwise it may cause nausea or vomiting, gas, ingestion, and abdominal discomfort leading to loss of appetite and, of course, excessive weight loss. Your mother might want to switch to the long-acting form of Metformin, called Metformin ER, which has fewer side effects in patients. Please discuss this with her doctor.
Avatar m tn Now with that being said I myself am considering bariatric aka weight loss surgery but as a tool to help me loose the weight that I have been unable to loose on my own but this is not even a cure not by a long shot However, it is something to consider. Now for every one that is reading this, think about this, what is causing the pcos? is it the chemicals in our food or in the water? is it our life styles?
Avatar n tn If you were my patient, I would encourage you to continue BOTH glucophage and Diane 35. It is possible that if you could lose weight and maintain weight loss that your cycles would resume spontaneously. It is also possible that they wouldn't. Diane will help with hair growth and acne as well as regulate your cycles. If you don't have at least 4 periods per year, (approx every 3 months) you will be at risk for cancer of the endometrium (uterine lining).
Avatar f tn I am less likely to have a hypoglycemic episode and it even has the benefits of helping with my polycystic ovarian syndrome. A little weight loss is common with the drug also, which won't hurt me either. It can also help lower your LDL cholesterol and lower your triglycerides. Lets hope that the drug does all that it claims. It would be helpful to me in several ways.
Avatar m tn Hi, Drugs for weight loss cannot be taken for an unlimited period of time and need to be taken under medical supervision. Depending on your hormonal levels, the metforim should help with the PCOS. Weight loss can be achieved by a combination of dietary control and exercise. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Can GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR be used in children? GLUCOPHAGE has been shown to effectively lower glucose levels in children (ages 10 to 16 years) with type 2 diabetes. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in children younger than 10 years old. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in combination with other oral glucose-control medicines or insulin in children. If you have any questions about the use of GLUCOPHAGE in children, talk with your doctor or other healthcare provider.
1907238 tn?1340711313 Its primary use helps you digest sugars more efficiently and can assist in weight loss, but be careful it can also assist in weight gain. Make sure you are eating a healthy diet while you are on it, or else it might have reverse affects.
957923 tn?1246732553 I take Inderal LA 120mg 1x a day and I also take bcp (Yasmin) and Metformin 500mg 2x for weight loss. My doctor knew I was on Inderal LA and said it was fine. Talk to your doctor about getting on Metformin. It works great and with that I've lost 60 + lbs with it. I have all the symptoms that you have too, except I don't have high blood pressure. I wouldn't consider the lap band surgery (only as a last resort).

1408770 tn?1283213203 She tries sometimes to walk and exercise but till now she is not getting any results. Her weight is 82 kgs. She is 28 years old and no she doesn't have diabetes right now but her doc (endocrinologist) said that those are pre-diabetic symptoms. And as we have a family history of diabetes (both my parents and my grandparents were diabetic) so she also is going towards it. So what would you suggest me to do to bring down her insulin level and to maintain her weight.?
Avatar f tn * It sounds like you're having alot of success on Metformin. Congrats on your weight loss!
Avatar f tn m going to call my doctor tomorrow and ask her if I should take Metformin since I never did get back in to see her about my ultrasound results. Does anyone know if you can take Metformin/Glucophage even if you don't have IR (insulin resistance)? I ask because my OBGYN is a D.O. and may not know this herself.
Avatar f tn Losing weight is challenging but with weight loss your periods have a good shot at coming back to normal. Also, there are fertility pills and a diabetes medicine called glucophage which often help to start more regular ovulation. Good luck!
865758 tn?1285952904 I'm quite puzzled by your post, to be honest. Prediabetes (sometimes also referred to as insulin resistance) is diagnosed by either fasting blood sugar or A1C. In order to be diagnosed with pre-diabetes you need a fasting blood sugar from 100-125, or an A1C over 5.7. Your blood sugars if anything, are too low. You could be suffering from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) which sometimes precedes diabetes.
796506 tn?1370188305 I do NOT have the insulin resistance/diabetes associated with PCOS but I still took Metformin. It helped me with weight loss and I believe, ultimately, allowed my body to ovulate on its own. I just felt BETTER on Met.

Avatar f tn Treatment will depend on your symptoms and desire for child bearing. Weight loss is the best natural treatment for PCOS. Birth control pills can be taken for menstrual irregularity. If you have a problem conceiving then your gynaecologist will be able to help you. Basic problem in PCOS is hormonal and because of an-ovulation. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Also Glucophage affects the action of insulin and is useful in reducing a number of the symptoms and complications of PCOS and also useful in the management of irregular periods, ovulation induction, weight loss, prevention of type 2 diabetes, and prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus in women with PCOS. You can discuss about this drug with your gynecologist.
