glucophage

Avatar n tn A year ago, my doctor gave me Lescol/Fluvastatin to take because I am a high risk for heart disease due to genetics and diabetes. At that time my Lipids were within normal range. After a month, ALT/AST results were very elevated. and medication was discontinued. Since then, I've gone through ultrasound, HiDa Scan and finally diagnose of fatty liver. The Gastroenterologist recommended Liver Biopsy to check for liver damage.
Avatar n tn Hi Mare, I am also diabetic (7 years, the last 2 insulin dependent). I was treated with Glipizide, glyburide, lasix, glucophage, several others. They all have warnings against alcohol. I disagree with Pointman, however, about having your husband stop alcohol completely. One glass of beer or wine is not excessive. I do agree that what is most important is your husbands blood sugar level, that he manages his numbers.
Avatar n tn My doctor just prescribed for me Glipizide along with my Glucophage because my sugars have been high for quite a while now. He warned me of the dangers and symptoms of low blood sugar. My question is, and i know its kind of silly, but what about when i'm sleeping? I know i can drink some juice before bed at 10pm, but then thats 10 hours before i eat again. I can drink juice again when i wake up at 7, but thats still 9 or 10 hours before breakfast. Thanks for any help.
Avatar f tn Hi, I recently went on glipizide after a very bad reaction to victoza. I was losing weight, but now the glipizide is keeping me at the same weight. Has anyone had the experience that is the same? and is there a lower does that anyone has still been able to lose weight with? and yes I'm on a low carb diet and excercise plan. I'm doing better with this than I did before and I lost 33 pounds. It's the glipizide.
Avatar n tn What drugs were you taking previously? Metformin / glucophage is first line treatment for type 2 diabetes and seems to be safe (though you should take a b-vitamin supplement when you are on it). Do not however take the drug called glipizide, class is sulfonureas. This drug makes your pancreas put out more insulin (and although it can help normalise blood sugars), it may make your pancreas 'burn out' sooner. Keep up your great efforts. this condition is a marathon, not a sprint.
Avatar n tn A study from the Hospital de Clinicas Caracas in Venezuela looked at 65 women who received Glucophage during their pregnancies vs. 31 who did not. The early pregnancy (first trimester) loss rate in the metformin group was 8.8% as compared to a 41.9% loss in the untreated group. Of those women who previously had miscarried, 11.1% of the metformin group miscarried again, while 58.3% of the untreated group again miscarried. (9) REDUCED RISK OF GESTATIONAL DIABETES.
647391 tn?1275016633 "Do you take Glipizide once a day? " Yes, usually around 5-6am. I eat breakfast 30-45 minutes later. "If so, what is your blood sugars at the end of day." <120 mg/dl "I think the glipizide helps, but doesn't last the day." Don't rely on medications to do all the work for you. There there to 'help' you. Do you exercise and break sweat for 60 minutes daily? Are you at normal body weight? Are you eating a proper diabetic diet?
Avatar n tn I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. No snacks. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

2053416 tn?1330411192 I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
