Avatar m tn , Betadine) allergies are at no greater risk from iodinated contrast medium than are patients with other allergies (i.e., neither is a significant risk factor). Routine premedication or avoidance of contrast medium for other indications, such as allergic reactions to other substances (including shellfish or contrast media from another class [e.g., gadolinium-based – iodinated]), asthma, seasonal allergies, or multiple drug and food allergies is not recommended.
Avatar m tn Regarding intravenous contrast, the type of contrast is different between CT which uses iodinated contrast versus MRI which uses gadolinium contrast. According to the American College of Radiology (ACR) Manual on Contrast Media, there is no cross-reactivity between different classes of contrast medium. For example, a prior reaction to iodinated contrast medium does not predict a future reaction to gadolinium contrast medium, or vice versa.
Avatar m tn CT scan with contrast would be required for complete evaluation in your case, please note iodinated contrast that we use in CT scan have some adverse effects so your blood urea and serum creatinine need to checked. Hopefully you dont have asthma or any drug allergy that will make use of contrast difficult.
988735 tn?1249174656 From my discussion with my cardio (who seems on the up and up) any contrast media will cause a reaction even if it is a different type. They use iodinated contrast he said. It is called an anaphylactoid rxn and has something do with hyperconcentrated solution. The difference in the osmality of the blood (I Think) and the contrast is what causes the immune response and thus the reaction. I wondered if anyone had to worry about this before..
Avatar n tn You have described a well-known complication known as extravasation of contrast media (iodinated contrast for CT or gadolinium for MRI, the latter in your case), which means some or all of the contrast which was supposed to be injected into your veins leaked out into the surrounding soft tissues. Patients typically experience localized pain, swelling, itching, and/or redness.
Avatar n tn [49] Metformin is recommended to be temporarily discontinued before any radiographic study involving iodinated contrast agents, (such as a contrast-enhanced CT scan or angiogram), as the contrast dye may temporarily impair kidney function, indirectly leading to lactic acidosis by causing retention of metformin in the body.[50][51] Metformin can be resumed after two days, assuming kidney function is normal.
Avatar f tn Okay, Two days ago I had a Ct scan for something with Contrast so two days later they tested my creatine level, it went from 50 last year down to 1 today-what does that mean? and could it be from the contrast and what does that mean? Please could someone answer soon? It's Friday night with no way to ask my doctor until Monday.
Avatar n tn If one is having a CT Scan with Contrast [dye] the diabetes medication Metformin [glucophage] must be stopped 48 hrs prior then a Serum Creatinine test performed 48 hrs later before one restarts.
Avatar n tn why do my glucophage tablets give off a first smell and taste impression of being mouldy?
Avatar n tn The CT drink is called Telebrix (Ioxithalamate) water-soluble, monomeric, ionic X-ray contrast medium based on tri-iodinated benzoic acid and if you like to get more information on this please google it and you will get so much info about this. The IV contrast is iodine-based contrast and yes there are some side effects if you have renal isuficiency. The nurse told me to drink plenty of water the day before the day of the scan and the day after to flush it out of my system.
Avatar n tn Can GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR be used in children? GLUCOPHAGE has been shown to effectively lower glucose levels in children (ages 10 to 16 years) with type 2 diabetes. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in children younger than 10 years old. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in combination with other oral glucose-control medicines or insulin in children. If you have any questions about the use of GLUCOPHAGE in children, talk with your doctor or other healthcare provider.
Avatar n tn scolded me for stopping the med, and insists that I continue to give him Glucophage. The Dr. says that the Glucophage will serve as an appetite suppresant as well as help control the blood sugars. Have you ever heard of other children being prescribed Glucophage in addition to other insulin? What are the facts on Glucophage and juveniles?
Avatar f tn I have hypothryoid disease ( all new to me ) and my doctor has perscribed glucophage to me to helped with irreglar menstral cycles.
Avatar f tn For intravenous contrast, MRI uses gadolinium contrast whereas CT uses iodinated contrast; there is no cross-reactivity between different classes of contrast media.* For oral contrast, this uses VoLumen (barium sulfate suspension), which rarely has allergic reaction. While you should not have a contrast study if you had prior severe allergic reaction (e.g., anaphylaxis), you can still consider having a contrast study if you had prior mild to moderate allergic reaction (e.g.
Avatar n tn In terms of imaging tests, CTA chest is the study of choice for suspected pulmonary embolism, but V/Q scan is used if there are contraindications such as iodinated contrast allergy or renal failure. The diagnosis of pulmonary embolism during pregnancy imposes special challenges. One sample algorithm is as follows: In pregnant patients without leg symptoms, V/Q scan is preferred if normal chest radiograph, while CTA is preferred if abnormal chest radiograph.
Avatar f tn Hi! If diagnosed with high insulin, is it safe to medicate like taking glucophage? Is it harmful to the liver?
Avatar f tn I took birth-control pills so that I can have a normal period but then my Doctor prescribed me to take Glucophage 500 mg twice a day after food but it has side effects like dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure and diarrehea... I went to pharmacies and asked about the medicine ( Glocophage), they say its good but it is not making me feel good. The last pharmacy I went to suggested that I should take Glucophage XR. 1546050 tn?1293688410 She then decided that I must be insulin resistant and put me on Glucophage 1 in the evening without even doing any tests or telling me anything about an eating plan etc. I am now following a low GI eating plan I got on the internet. My question is - should I be on Glucophage if I was not properly tested for insulin resistance and if my sugar test came out within normal range?
Avatar n tn I started by monitering my diet and still I needed medication, so my doctor prescribed me with Glucophage XR 500mg, 2 pills a day taken at same time.
Avatar n tn She said that I still not a type 2 diabetic but just to be safe she told me to start taking glucophage once a day for 1 week and increase to 2x a day after that. Then I will repeat my tests in January. Should I start taking the meds as she prescribe. I am not overweight and no one in my family is diabetic.
Avatar m tn An intravenous line was established and rapid bolus iodinated contrast was administered while CT images were obtained. No complications were encountered. Three dimensional reconstructions of the CT images were performed and post-processing and analysis was done for definition of coronary stenosis. This cardiac scan was interpreted by a cardiologist with respect to the heart only. If interpretation of noncardiac structures is indicated, radiology consultation should be obtained.
