Glucophage and ct contrast

Common Questions and Answers about Glucophage and ct contrast

glucophage

Avatar f tn Thank you for trying to help me interoret my test, I called consulting nurse and talked to the doctor and he said its a big flucuation but within normal range and nothing to worry about now. He said to bring it up to my doctor the next visit but no cause for concern now. I had to go off my glucophage for diabetes for a couple days and now I can go back on. Thanks again.
Avatar n tn If one is having a CT Scan with Contrast [dye] the diabetes medication Metformin [glucophage] must be stopped 48 hrs prior then a Serum Creatinine test performed 48 hrs later before one restarts.
Avatar m tn My question is would you recomend contrast for my ct scans or does without contrast still get a pretty good pic in evaluating organs etc.
Avatar f tn I have had at least four ct scan within a year due to other health issues and they do both everytime, ct scan alone, and then they do the iodine contrast. All they ever ask me is are you allergict to iodine. I always say no. Maybe it does not affect those who no longer have a thyroid. ??
Avatar m tn Sometimes a dye may be injected into a vein to highlight blood flow in your arteries and veins, CT angiogram and provide additional detail regarding appearance of brain aneurysm. MRI can create detailed images of your brain and show aneurysm’s location. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn A dilated blood vessel can be seen on contrast enhanced CT scan. Contrast is a dye injected into the body. This dye accumulates in the brain blood vessels and can be seen on the CT scan. An MRI is a better imaging technique. MRA 9Magnetic resonance Angiography) is still better. Have you considered or ruled out migraine ? Do you have nausea and any other problems ?
Avatar f tn I went into the emergency room complaining of flu like symptons and my chest ached, beathing badly. I was given several bottles of IV and wasnt voiding. I was given contrast dye to check for blood clots in the lungs?? From there it was all down hill and from there i was sent to ICU. Kidney failure, respiratory failure. I am still in my fortys and always healthy as a horse. My gut is telling me they have me to much contrast dye and that caused me to go down hill??
Avatar f tn From the ultrasound, it seemed that this mass was still very close or even inside the bladder wall. The urologist ordered a CT scan (both the normal one and one with contrast dye), to pinpoint the exact location of the mass. I have never undergone a CT scan, and the one with the contrast dye really worries me, especially after reading some of the possible sensations, side-effects and risks of injecting the dye.
Avatar f tn Just left the ER and they ordered an CT due to weird visual changes I have been having. Would this have shown a tumor?
Avatar m tn After a few doctors visits and false diagnoses (low blood pressure, bppv) I finally got a CT Scan with and without contrast. The CT with contrast was normal, but the CT without contrast reads as follows: FINDINGS: The head CT shows no intracranial hemorrhage, extra-axial fluid collection or mass lesion. Mild bilateral deep white matter hypodensities are present, greater in the left parietal lobe suggesting chronic small vessel ischemic changes.
Avatar n tn I had a CT Scan yesterday as well. They gave me the drink & the IV with scans before and after & in between, for a total of 3 scans. I have had cancer before, so any imaging that is done on me, they use contrast, whether it is a CT or MRI. The contrast is meant to be taken up by cancer cells and 'glow', making them easier to see. MRI is usually a better scan for skeletal, brain, disc, etc. CT seems to view softer organs better.
8958586 tn?1481360712 ve been having difficulty taking deep breaths. It was a contrast CT and they used my port access to give me the contrast. After they were finished, they didn't flush the port, but just administered the heparin. After my IVIg treatments, they saline flush my port with two syringes before they do the heparin. I'm nervous about asking nurses to do something, as have had bad experiences with nurses needing to be right.
Avatar f tn The MRI was done with contrast, right? If not, you should get one with contrast, to rule out an acoustic neuroma.
Avatar n tn About three week ago i had an upper respritory infection. I took antibiotics it seemed to get better the soarness stopped, but then i started having constant chest and pack pain. I went back to the doctor and they gave me some steroids and said it was my plurasy. But this did not cure the chest and back pain. It is getting worse and i am tired all the time. I can't lay on my chest at all and there is a constant pain and heaviness in my back and chest.
Avatar n tn Well, I think I can give you a fairly accurate general reply. A CT scan won't hurt your brain at all. However, it's like an X-ray in that it uses radiation to get the pictures, so your body gets an extra dose of it, which in some circles is arguably not exactly a good thing. Contrast is like a white liquid they put in your veins so that parts of the brain that might not otherwise be seen will stand out more clearly.
1545021 tn?1322477485 What more can you see on and MRI with contrast vs. an MRI without contrast?
Avatar f tn I took birth-control pills so that I can have a normal period but then my Doctor prescribed me to take Glucophage 500 mg twice a day after food but it has side effects like dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure and diarrehea... I went to pharmacies and asked about the medicine ( Glocophage), they say its good but it is not making me feel good. The last pharmacy I went to suggested that I should take Glucophage XR. I still didnt take it, Im still using Glucophage.
Avatar n tn As doctornee stated a dye contrast MRI (MRA) would be more appropriate in view of the absence of radiation damage and the fact the contrast medium is better tolerated. This does not mean they did anything wrong with ordering a CT. Generally they do so because an MRI is not always available and time is of the essence.
Avatar f tn CT uses radiation to make these pictures and MRI uses magnetic field.... which one is better ? definitely MRI without "gandolinium" contrast-- pictures are sharp and tumors are well defined and it's SAFE. All contrasts CT or MRI are hard on your kidneys...but your doctor will tell you that " benefits will outweigh the risk". Google gandolinium and read about pros and cons of using it and same for CT contrast.
Avatar n tn why do my glucophage tablets give off a first smell and taste impression of being mouldy?
182352 tn?1231183410 my OBGYN just prescribed prometrium for low progestrone, and metformin ( the generic form of glucophage), due to my body not processing sugar properly. the prometrium bottle says DO NOT TAKE WHILE PREGNANT. i have read up on this & it seems to be a very common & helpful drug to take during early pregnancy. has anyone taken both, or either 1 alone while pregnant? my 1st pregnancy was a breeze & i hate taking anything during pregnancy. thanks so much.
Avatar n tn Can GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR be used in children? GLUCOPHAGE has been shown to effectively lower glucose levels in children (ages 10 to 16 years) with type 2 diabetes. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in children younger than 10 years old. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in combination with other oral glucose-control medicines or insulin in children. If you have any questions about the use of GLUCOPHAGE in children, talk with your doctor or other healthcare provider.
Avatar m tn I'm no expert on CT scans, but I believe it won't show anything, even if they had injected contrast. If you've got something showing on T3, then it's not a blemish in the spinal cord, but a problem with the hard tissues surrounding it. I think. However, I understand that they are supposed to inject a contrast agent with a CT scan, so it does sound like you need to go back. Just a warning - don't try to interpret your MRIs yourself!
Avatar n tn them back when viewing such a scan? Is there any benefit in doing a facial CT scan both with and without contrast, or is it better to do it with OR without contrast? Thank you.
Avatar m tn 3 days ago i had a CT scan with contrast dye, last night i had a low-grade fever 37,5 C and some nasty chills/shivering,today i still have low grade fever but no chills, can it be from the contrast dye?
7510956 tn?1411671417 My doc alternates my scans every 6 month between ultra sounds, CT, and MRI. My last was an MRI and it looked good. I have compensated cirrhosis and am 24 wk HCV undetected. I trust the path he has chosen for my observation. They know what they are looking for. Best of luck to you!
