I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor

So if you dont eat and continue to take glipizide you run the risk of getting hypos. I say the risk as it depends what your BG is and how much glipizide lowers your BG. If you are on glipizide you should have a BG test meter to check your BG. So test to see how your BG is doing.

Last September I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I started taking Glipizide 5mg in the am along with meds for blood pressure. I also made major life style changes. I exercise an hour a day five days a week now. I eat extremely heathy. I lost 30 lbs. I'm sleeping again. I changed jobs. I'm still very overweight, but all my numbers are now in the normal range or close to it.

The doctor thought it would really make no differance when I took the pills as long as I had the daily dose I decided to take the Metformin at he same times as the Glipizide ie only one with my evening meal and I am now in my second week without a night sweat which for me is remarkable. Hopefully I've stopped my sweats and I'm not screwing up somewhere else and I'll keep you posted to the results of the iron tests.

I have elevated liver enzymes due to hepatic adenoma. Currently taking glipizide for high blood sugar, but is causing side effects. Weight gain, extreme low blood sugar, restless sleep. What can I take instead that will not affect the liver?

I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. thank you for all your information. i've already started most of what you all have suggested. i have lost 10 lbs in the last 4 months by cutting out rice, breads and pasta. my average carb intake is arounf 40-48 per meal leaving my last meal of the day mostly meat and veggies with low carbs. my heavy meal is lunch at work and i usually fix my lunch myself so that i can control the carbs. i have taken a class at the hospital for diabetes.

I was on metformin and had no issures, than she switched mr to glipizide 5 mg for a week 1 daily and than after 1 week raise it to 2 daily, so that may be problem in it self.

That happened to me with metformin and my doctor switched me to glipizide. Now my numbers are going in the right direction. I think you need to complain to your doctor and find what works for you.

to use the restroom and thought I would check it again since it was kind of high when I went to bed. I expected to see a substantial drop in number (is that correct)? It was 317. I checked a couple of times throughout the day yesterday and it continued to run somewhat high. At 10 p.m. it was 274 and again I woke up this morning around 3 a.m. and checked it. It's at 252 now. I thought the 3 a.m. reading should be substantially lower than the daytime readings. Is this correct??

Hello.........you are not alone...I have been having effects of metformin and glipizide since May 27, 2015. I am going into the clinic tomorrow. My pharmacist said "oh there is a bug going around". This is clearly not a bug this is either the meds are in too warm of a temperature and not being as effective or I've got another kidney infection. Been up with abdominal pain, bloating, gas ..just can't get comfortable and my numbers are not coming down as fast as they were.

When it does that it no longer dumps sugar OR removes metformin from your system. To much metformin can cause lactic acidosis which if drinking for days and continuing to take metformin can be deadly. You dont say what you were drinking. if it contains carbohydrates (beer not the light beers, regular soda in mixed drinks) then you will have high BG But NOT from the alcohol.

we are not 100% perfect on this - when we go out I will order the kids a pizza. Sometimes we take the kids to a buffet, and occasionally mac-n-chees is just way to easy to pass up. But for the most part - 80 -90% of the time we are pretty diligent. My boys last year went off sugar for 6 months and of course lost nothing on their BMI - but for the first time didn't gain anything either. No progress - just stayed the same. With all of this, they just keep gaining.
