175662 tn?1282217256 I have Graves' but not pregnant with it or ever. But from what I understand, once treated and levels regulated pregnancy is successful. For RAI treatment this might be 6 to 12 months after. Surgery might be the same. However, ATDers normally take 18 months or longer. But the hyper side of Graves' must be treated first. Once we have Graves' we'll always have Graves' because it is autoimmune and there is no treatment or cure for autoimmune, but the hyperside of the disease is.
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.
Avatar f tn I am 29 and have been recently diagnosed with graves disease! I was put on ptu! The reason for the ptu is because I am trying to become pregnant through artificial insemination. I have been waiting months to start but have been told that I need to wait until my graves is under control! I had blood work done yesterday and it was reduced from 100mg a day to 50mg a day! My dosage has changed every time since I have been diagnosed. Is this normal?
175662 tn?1282217256 I was just prescribed PTU during my pregnancy for my Graves' Disease that I've had for awhile. I've been nausiated now, itching everywhere, my body hurts, and I generally feel crummy now... I didn't have morning sickness. Anyone else out there pregnant with this stupid disease? I was diagnosed in 2004.

Avatar n tn 2.2 and 235. My endo tole me it was either thyroiditis or graves disease. Whants me to wait a couple more weeks before getting the thyroid scan. My question is: is it ok to wait? how does she know it is not cancer or something like that? are my numbers really high or just mild? if it is thyroiditis when will it go away, I am very ready to exercise again. I am 26 years old 5'5'' 115lbs. female. Thank you for any information you may have.

Makes it possible to get graves disease and most importantly ... is it heretitery?
175662 tn?1282217256 How many Graves' woman out there that are or have been pregnant while having Graves' Disease and what were your experiences/outcomes? I am 6 1/2 weeks pregnant and have had Graves' Disease for the last 3+ years.
Avatar n tn Can getting pregnant help Graves disease? And..how much PTU is safe to take during pregnancy? Is there a high miscarriage rate for people with Graves? What are some of the effects of PTU on the baby? Also, ... my current levels are tsh .01, and free t4 2.6. Is there a certain level I should wait to maintain before trying to get pregnant? Thank you.
Avatar f tn By biggest question of all is, although I have this disease is this what is making me have irregular periods I used to have a period every 28days now its more every 56 days if not more its really upsetting me because iv been trying to get pregnant for 4 years now and had no luck what so ever has the graves disease made me in fertile and if I'm still having a period even though they are irregular can I still get pregnant??
456285 tn?1235133526 Hi I have been labeled with Hashimotos and Graves Disease during my 1st trimester almost 2 years ago now. I had a wonderful Endo, and took PTU, at 50mg 9x a day it wasn't the best to me! Not only did I have to combat "morning sickness" aka "all day/night" sickness, I wasn't doing too well with PTU. At my last weigh in at my 40 week appt, I had gained 60lbs! That is unbelievable! Also a blow to the ego. Normal pregnancies call for maybe 30lb weight gain?
Avatar n tn I read that this is a symptom of Graves disease. The pain is just getting unbearable but my doctor says it takes time and once I get stabalized it should go away. My question is how long do I have to go through this to start feeling better. I haven't felt good in over 6 weeks and it all started when I was having conservative sinus surgery is how I came about that I even have a thyroid issue.
Avatar f tn In our world, we tend to look for deeper meanings, causes, and explanations for many things. Graves Disease included. So lets break Graves Disease down, and take a look at what it is..and why there is no cure for this, and all other diseases of the immune system. Consider the immune system an army. For indeed that is what it is. It patrols and guards, and attacks foreign bodies in a moments notice. The primary protectors of our body are T and B cells.
Avatar f tn I have graves disease which I had radio active oblation. But the graves disease is returning and i am getting the symptoms of it currently. I had intercourse and we used a condom but the condom fell off inside of my vagina. So I was hoping that the thyroid would probably make me not able to get pregnant anyway, I wanted to know if this is a possibilty Please help me!!!!!
Avatar f tn I found out I have Graves Disease about three months ago, and it's REALLY bad, and I was prescribed Methimazole and Propranolol, but I'm very bad at taking them. I forget often. At the same time, I just started school which is an hour away from home. I am now nervous about being pregnant because a couple days ago, my boyfriend and I had sex without protection. I've heard rumors that you either cannot get pregnant while your "hyper" or you can get pregnant, but the baby may be harmed.
Avatar f tn I do have a son already who was conceived naturally so we thought that helped our chances, although on the flip side I do have Graves disease (diagnosed after my son was born) and I am now 42. We increased my Synthroid once just when we transferred the embryos, and then again when I was still feeling bad (to 150 mg), but that was right before we got a negative test result.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone - I am a 34 year old woman just diagnosed with Graves Disease a couple of weeks ago with a TSH of <0.03, FT4 of 67, FT3 of 2092 and TSI of 163. I am 3 months postpartum and am breastfeeding my little guy with a plan to do so for probably 15 months total.
Avatar f tn The TSI test measures the stimulating activity of the antibody that causes Graves disease, whch is TSH-receptor antibodies. If this was caused by your pituitary, then your TSH would be high. And it isn't. A TSI of 32 eliminates TRab as a cause of high thyroid. So it probably is caused by something else. I would ask if you have been exposed to any iodine containing medicines shortly before your hospitalization?
346355 tn?1219858547 Maybe both of you need to come to this website to see what patients and their care givers go through. In the past year sinc I found out about my Graves disease and then thyca. My personality has changes...some for the better. a lot for the worse. My motivation to do simple things like keep a budge it just too hard for me to focus on. However, as a thyca survivor, I am a little more tolerant of some idiot drives on I-95 in Northe VA.
897578 tn?1241724871 Have you visited an eye doctor that specializes in Graves Disease? I am showing the beginning signs of Graves in my eyes. I also have Sjogren's Disease, which is an autoimmune disease. Our bodies are fighting ourselves, and keeping our immune systems up is definately an important step. I do get an odd feeling that comes over me, and I sweat horribly which can cause me to feel a bit anxious. Do you feel like that at times?
Avatar f tn I've been thinking about getting pregnant but just found out I have hyperthyroidism. I haven't started taking medication for it yet. I am extremely disappointed that I was told I could not have any more children. It broke my heart. I want to start a family with my boyfriend and have a child of our own. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm already going through all the test to get everything checked out.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with both earlier this year I did plan on getting pregnant but its here and I'm kinda worried
Avatar n tn get everything cleared up before doing any type of treatment since you plan on getting pregnant. I ended up doing the RAI, then had to have a TT anyway. I also had Graves/hyper/goiter. I can't remember if my anti-bodies still show up or not on the blood work.
Avatar f tn All your doctor has to do is run a few simple blood tests to confirm or rule out Graves Disease. Yes, it is a big deal to leave it untreated; you could severely damage your health.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am only 15 years old but was diagnosed with graves disease about two years ago. I also went untreated for about six months and developed every symptom imaginable and then was immediately put on a beta blocker and medication. After a year on the medication i saw very few improvements and decided it was time to take the next step which in my case was surgery to take out the thyroid gland. I had the surgery at the end of January and am fully recovered.
