Avatar f tn The difference is detoxing is very quick and tapering is a more slow and comfortable way of getting off Methadone! Before u decide to start u need to make sure u r mentally and physically ready! Don't let anyone tell u how fast to go down. U also have alot going on that i have never dealt with and let me say, i am so sorry u r going thru all of this! I am going to do some checkin and get back to u. I promise.
11331945 tn?1417307678 I can get off however staying off is an issue. Sometimes its a month or two and sometimes its a week or few.weeks. its ruining everything and I don't know what it is that makes me pick up, and if the thought occurs what to do to make sure I don't do it. I have been told stay busy. I have no hobbies I work alot and thenn kids etc I struggle with finding anything that I enjoy doing to.get me through the times when its just me myself and I.
1078103 tn?1256779401 I have been on methadone for 5 1/2 years. I am currently at 65 mg and have been for a while. I have been wanting to get off of methadone for a long time now. I have tried tapering twice and i just wasn't ready then. It has been two years now since i have last tried getting clean of methadone. I also have a benzo habit as well. I haven't had any benzo's in 8 days and im doing fine with that. However, now im pretty much going cold turkey off the methadone.
Avatar m tn i was on 300mg a day, and what they did was formulate a dose of methadone to match the oxycontin, and slowly took me off the methadone day by day. you cant go cold turkey off methadone. it`s approximately 3x the strength of methadone. so if you were on 40mg a day, you would need around 120mg of oxycontin a day to break even. taking that much, to get you off the methadone, it would take time, and by then you;d be addicted to oxycontin instead of methadone.
Avatar f tn You can do it! I was on methadone for 5 years, and I took my last methadone 5 days ago and I'm not feeling as bad as I thought I would! There's a lot of great info on this site, check out the Thomas recipe and amino acid pages on the lower right of this page. My best advice would be taper down slowly and then when you're ready jump off. Be prepared for the withdrawal symptoms and allow yourself time to heal. I never knew how much harm methadone was actually causing me.
Avatar m tn Hi..You said she was in a clinic and getting Methadone..Was she on another drug that they used to help her come off of?? You got some great advise from the above posting..We all were on the Methadone..I however got myself down from a Very High dose to 30mgs..I was on this for about 12 years with 2 other meds..I did go c/t and it was not easy...Like they said Slow & Easy..But if she is tired of it she can jump off the Boat at Anytime..
Avatar m tn i have been on methadone for 12 yrs started at 19 am 30 now tried 4 times getting off it tried going down 5 a month tried cold turkey tried clonidine every tranquilizer known to man i had a seizure almost died last time i tried coming off i am fearful i will never get off it because my withdrawls are so bad i wouldnt even wish it on hitler please someone help me i am scared for myself
Avatar n tn A pregnant woman asked me how to get off oxy's without having to take methadone. I have no idea but thought I would ask you all so I can tell her. she wants to do something asap so anything you can tell me will help.
Avatar f tn Having access to our drug of choice is a barrier to getting clean and staying clean. Usually we get found out, have licenses suspended and are mandated to rehab. I speak from experience. There are many health care professionals in our shoes so don't feel alone. I commend you for wanting to get better! I strongly suggesting NA meetings and continuing to gather as much info as you can about detoxing. One thing is for certain..you cannot lose your job because you have an addiction.
Avatar m tn I havent taken methadone for about 9months and have been off of suboxone for 101days now and have no intention on getting anywhere near any opiates again. I wish your friend the best of luck, take care.
Avatar n tn good luck, keep posting, and gnarly and others have a lot of experience with methadone withdrawal and are great at giving advice.....God Bless!
Avatar n tn He is our new CL here and he has come off methadone and been clean for quite awhile....He is VERY helpful and has some really good tips on getting off this stuff. How is the recovery care going?
Avatar f tn I'm confused, she is 4 mos. off opiates AND subs? Or do you mean 4 mos. off opiates, but she is still taking subs? Bottom line: there is no avoiding cold turkey. ALL of us had to deal w/ it whether it's from subs, methadone, or opiates. Subs are only supposed to be used for a very very short time (like weeks or less) and via a doctor. I guess she wanted to use subs to avoid ct but that's impossible.
Avatar f tn s not enough of a difference that Methadone would really be to be any benefit. And if anything, withdrawal would be slightly more abrupt on methadone. The half-life is a double-edged sword. A long half-life will 'ease' withdrawal - but not lessen withdrawal. Meaning it's onset is more gradual but will last longer in duration. This can be beneficial in a slower taper, or excruciatingly long with a short taper or cold turkey.
Avatar m tn Ya I can see telling others your stories is a good therapy for staying clean, the last time I kicked methadone and every other opiate I used , I would occasionally start blabbering on about my success with getting clean to new friends old friends , just anyone I met drunk at the bar! It feels great to be able to say I'm a survivor of the big h! Helping others do the same for them selves is something that would feel great!
Avatar n tn Are you asking if you can get on methadone to get off perks? How long have you been abusing the perks and how much do you take a day?
Avatar m tn Would it be wise to get on suboxzone after tappering off of methadone, then tappering off of suboxzone?
Avatar n tn Hi! Are you still around? There are quite a few people who have come off methadone on here! Go to the forum "Addiction:Substance Abuse" and repost your question. You will get a lot more answers there! Please stick around as there is a lot of wisdom and understanding on that forum!!!!
Avatar n tn Yes if you realy want to get off the opiates (Roxie's) I would realy advise against getting on the Suboxone/Subutex o/p program (buprenorphine), but that is entirely your choice. When getting on that program you're just substituting one opiate for another, and personaly comming off those is the worst and longest withdraw i've ever experience out of all other opiates. (Exept methadone i've never done that) LOOK UP ON THE VIVITROL SHOT IF UR SERIOUS ABOUT STAYING CLEAN.
Avatar f tn He put me on Subutex. When I finally asked about getting off the Subutex he said there was no need and I could stay on it safely for like. The jerk. I started at 16mg a day almost 5 yrs ago. I am sick of this crap. I have been slowly weaning for awhile now. For every drop in dosage, I go thru withdrawals and feel awful for weeks. When I start feeling better, I cut the dosage again. When I got to .25mg a day, I thought I could go cold turkey. I was wrong.
Avatar m tn The doctors at the hospital where pleased with my progress and attitude but told me it would be difficult to get off the subutex because of the years on the prescription drugs. How slow do I go down from here and how long do stay at that level what is your advise.
Avatar f tn the cards where stacked agenst me and my detox lasted 90 days b/4 I started to feel better so cudos to you your off to a great start now for the next step....aftercare......you will find getting clean is the ez part it is staying clean that takes work I highly recamend the N/A progam it is free the meeting are only a hour long and it is the only progam that I know of that with time and working the 12 steps you will loose the desire to use....something I always thought was impossible...
