Generalized anxiety with shortness of breath

Common Questions and Answers about Generalized anxiety with shortness of breath

Avatar m tn I have been having shortness of breath on and off for a couple of years, did all the tests but doctors couldnt find anything. The thing that boggles me is that I don't have stress or real worry but i get the same symptom of shortness of breath, I know its psychological. There is one more thing before that shortness of breath began, my chest or esophagus tightened up and has been tightened up for over 2 years.
Avatar n tn Milk of Magnesia + 1 capful Miralax for constipation)and Florastor. About 5 weeks ago, began having shortness of breath (during cold period). This was not unusual as my asthma has difficulty during cold temps and my allergies have problems due to dust allergies and mold. Was told to increase inhaler to 2 puffs/2x day by general doctor. Did not seem to help. Continued feeling short of breath at rest and when walking around.
Avatar n tn Severe anxiety which caused my blood pressure to rise skipping heart every other beat shortness of breath nausea feeling of impending death right here and now racing heart chills but not like when you have a fever tingling in one of my cheeks neck pain pain between shoulder blades lower back pain and severe stiffness body aches stomach pain whole body aches like you have been run over by a truck waking up at night with severe anxiety tingling in the extremeties frequent urination a lump in my
Avatar m tn asthma (a common cause of adult wheezing) and anxiety. Anxiety is sometimes accompanied by what is called Panic Disorder and anxiety with panic accompanied by a condition called Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD), an abnormal closure of one’s vocal cords, mostly seen with inspiration. Another possibility would be an abnormal heart rhythm that might or might not be experienced as palpitation and experienced as chest tightness.
Avatar f tn Over the last 4-5 months or so, I have lost a lot of energy. I have felt weak, had shortness of breath, my body has felt heavy, and I've also had some tingling in my arms/hands/fingers. Some days I'm totally okay, and some days (like today) it's as though I cannot even move. My body feels heavy, I'm having a bit of trouble breathing, my chest feels a bit weird. This is not anxiety related.
Avatar n tn I've been through all the heart, blood vessel, lung testing and nothing has come back with problems. I have just started having episodes of shortness of breath and find that I'm trying to yawn all the time just to get a good breath. When tested my oxygen levels were fine. When these episodes become bad I find that my blood pressure also raises. I normally have a BP of 110/70 but ended up in ER when it rose to 183/100 and that's when it really became difficult to catch my breath.
Avatar m tn the shortness of breath with concurring rapid heartbeat, the breathlessness, the fact that anything above light exercise is a powerful trigger for the worst symptoms (not sure if it's true for all of you, but it sure is for Theodore22089 and me), and the uselessness of asthma medications. I was prescribed "Symbicort" inhalers, "Singulair" pills, and an albuterol inhaler -simultaneously-.
Avatar n tn As a non-smoking 43 year old woman I have struggled with the very frequent yawning and feeling of shortness of breath for over 20 years. When first experiencing it all those years ago I, too, went to doctors and had all kinds of repiratory tests which showed that in fact I had "great" lung function. All the emotions decribed above are all too familiar. In my case the "episodes" will come and go and I will get reprieves of months or sometimes years without a spell.
Avatar f tn If you've had the shortness of breath in the past and symptoms have not changed, I wouldn't worry too much. Certainly if your symptoms change, it's worth checking out. Usually heart failure has a cause. Ankle swelling at the end of the day, mild, is pretty common. I get it, and I'm only 29. The older I get, the more pronounced it becomes. I also have shortness of breath. I don't know why and no one seems to be able to tell me why.
Avatar f tn May I message you with a list of links to my posts here with tips on anxiety coping? Anxiety can be tricky. I've found over the decades it can lie dormant for a few months, then reappear as a completely new symptom.
Avatar n tn Excessive yawning is often a symptom of generalized anxiety. Over the past several weeks, I received dozens of e-mails about breathing difficulties and excessive yawning, and in a way, it’s strange that I would receive so many e-mails from people suffering with these problems, because I too once had the excessive yawning symptoms. In my case, I would feel like I could not get a deep enough breath, and consequently, would continue trying to you yawn and take in more and more air.
Avatar m tn It seemed that during periods of intense training, the shortness of breath was worse. I often felt like I was suffocating even during every day life. There was even one time in particular I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I couldn't breathe while experiencing heart palpitations at the same time. The shortness of breath gets worse during exercise.
Avatar f tn You have described me to a "T" with your description of shortness of breath during my menstrual cycle. My will normally last about 2 wks. I have ask my family MD and my OB/GYN doctor and the only answer I have been given is "must be your hormones." My shortness of breath has been going on for several years, I'm now 46 yrs. old. If a doctor ever explains it to me, or determines the cause I will certainly let you know, and please do the same for me.
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed with generalized anxiety, panic disorder, moderate depression, and PTSD. Lately it's been worse than before, I feel like my heart is going to stop, I'm always short of breathe, my left side feels weird, and I keep thinking I have a blood clot. It's gotten to the point where I feel like I'm dying or slowly dying or will die any minute now. I feel doomed, helpless, and just awful and always sick. I don't know what to do anymore.
449946 tn?1205493932 I was told my two doctors that I am suffering from Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and I would like to know what the symptoms are.
15440293 tn?1440623937 So since the 8th of this month, Basically over 3 weeks now, I have been experiencing almost daily shortness of breath where it feels like I cannot get enough air. It mostly occurs with minimal exertion like standing up, yelling, laughing, climbing up a flight of stairs, etc. The day it started I was sitting down as a passenger in the car and on a phone call when all of a sudden it felt like I could'nt breathe or catch my breath and hard to finish my sentence.
Avatar n tn It would make a lot more sense to me if the symptoms would come and go, or if they were worse when I was more anxious, but they arent, they are just gradually getting worse all of the time, regardless of my level of anxiety. The reason that none of my Dr.s are taking me seriously, is because this all started after I had an anxiety reaction to fainting about 2 1/2 months ago.
Avatar n tn I smoke approximately a pack of cigarettes a day for 9 years. I suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder (Hypochondria), Migraines and Ovarian Cysts. I have been under a considerable amount of stress since December 2008. I inherited a peak flow meter a few years ago and my peak flow has been normal every time I've taken it throughout this ordeal. Thanks so much! P.S. I have no congestion, wet cough, fever, etc. The only symptoms I have are the one's listed above.
Avatar f tn -dizziness almost all the time -feeling like I am going to die everyday -feeling like I have a brain tumor or heart problem -racing heart all the time -I dont feel like im here ever physically (therapist says its depersonalization/derealization) -tingling in my arms/legs -ringing in ears -headaches that feel like a lot of pressure -shortness of breath I have tried zoloft but the side effects were too terrible, so now im on my second day of celexa (i think thats how you spell it) I feel even
1318245 tn?1274227973 IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE GAD AND NOT BE CONSCIOUSLY AWARE OF ANXIETY? I have symptoms very consistent with anxiety and yet I'm not anxious. My close friends and family are also VERY skeptical about the anxiety because they know how "chill" I am about everything. Can you suppress feelings of anxiety or stress? Thanks!!
Avatar n tn I am trying to decide whether or not I actually have an anxiety disorder. I've been to two doctors, had a chest x-ray, blood test, and breathing test. All came back normal, or you could even say they came back "good". I have a shortness of breath that goes on most of the day. I can't feel that I'm getting enough air. A sort of "air hunger" that just doesn't stop. Very annoying and occasionally painful because of the soreness from my chest.
358304 tn?1409713092 I hated that. Though I have that anxiety, I never had panic attacks, or shortness of breath, or any other GAD syndrome. I started having these syndromes last month I went to the movie theater with my mom and brother to see Cloverfield. The movie is directed cam recorder style. I saw on some commercials..they gave out warning that this movie may make some people feel nauseous or dizzy because it creates this ''roller coaster sensation'' kind of feeling.
Avatar n tn I also think the prozac created some suicidal thoughts and obsessive problems which are very low level. My doc's feel like I probably have always had generalized anxiety but a series of female medical problems reared the ugly monsters head. I am now thinking about going on Sinequan because it seems to be one of the TCA's that doesn't list anxiety as a side effect. Is this a good choice? But i would suggest to the person w/ the breathing problem to seek help before it turns into more...
Avatar f tn • Irregular heartbeat, chest pains, shortness of breath, choking, trembling, or dizziness may accompany panic. • Panic attack symptoms are often misread as a heart attack or other serious physical ailment. lighting up doesn’t help us lighten up.
Avatar f tn Results from test slight left vent enlarged, a little high blood pressure 144/85 and of course anxiety again. No answer to chest pain, shortness of breath or pressure in center of chest. I was given Xanax .5 twice a day which I have been only taking .25 three times a day. I am scared to go to sleep because of the pain and of course dying and waking up with panic and fear. I eventually fall to sleep thanks to my wonderful wife stays up while I sleep which isn't fair to her.
Avatar m tn I know this bulletin was posted like a million years ago, but I just saw it and I just had this problem not that long ago, so I thought I should say something about it. I've been in a lot of car wrecks and have been dealing with anxiety a lot and I became scared of driving, or pretty much being in a car at all. I dont know if you've been in lots of car wrecks or not, but I figured this advice might help you either way...
Avatar m tn They are not associated with shortness of breath, chest pain, or lighheadedness. I did have a lacrosse game late aftrernoon yesterday and it was the first time I had run in about 3 weeks and was extremely tired. So i was thinking that may be related. I know this is most likely anxiety related but I just wanted to make sure.
Avatar n tn of heart palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, hot flashes, stomach upset and insomnia--started with much more intensity about 8 months ago. In addition to the above symptoms, I experienced loss of appetite, weight loss, diarrhea and extreme fatigue. My endocrinologist tested my TPO antibodies (which came back very elevated at the time) and attributed it to transient thyroiditis, as the gland itself was also swollen to the point I was having trouble swallowing pills.
1319752 tn?1274429691 everytime I drink coke or coffee I tend to get that heaviness in the chest feeling and sometimes shortness of breath. Is there a connection between caffeine and anxiety? Im now drinking decaf coffee and trying to leave the cokes alone because of my symptoms. I think thats why Im awake at the moment.
Avatar n tn Of course this is only my opinion, but when it comes to anti anxiety meds and anti depressants for anxiety, I have a rather against them outlook simply because I feel that the cause of the anxiety should be addressed and not simply the symptoms. I too gained A LOT of weight on a med. If your shortness of breathe is caused by you thinking about it too much, you may want to first try diversion tactics.
