gastroenteritis

Avatar n tn If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Gastroenteritis can be produced from viral, bacterial and parasitic infections, contaminated food or water, food poisoning, use of harsh laxatives, change in bacteria that normally live in the intestinal tract, chemical toxins in certain plants, seafood, or contaminated food, and heavy metal poisoning. Take adequate fluids throughout the day. The BRAT diet (ie, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) or soft easily digestible semisolid diet can also be taken.

Avatar f tn My doctor diagnosed me with gastroenteritis and told me I could not have solid foods. What can I eat?
Avatar m tn You could be suffering from viral gastroenteritis or from food poisoning. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers, banana, rice, peeled apple, etc. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment. If still the symptoms persist, then you may need an antibiotic for the gut and would need to see a doctor.

Avatar n tn Hello, Some symptoms of viral infection of the abdomen like in viral gastroenteritis may prolong for some time(10-12) days after treatment of infection also. This is due to effect of virus on the stomach causing its irritation. Since it happened after a viral infection,so causes could be dehydration and decreased amount of minerals like sodium and potassium in the body.It can also occur because of hypoglycemia or improper sleep during the infection.

Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis 2 years ago. I spent 17 days in the hospital and received high dose oral steroid treatment to treat it. It went away; however, the problem has resurfaced. My doctor has recommended I start a six food elimination diet. My question is: is there anybody doing this diet and how are you avoiding these foods? They seem to be in everything at the store. MY SFED consists of egg, milk, seafood/shellfish, tree nuts/peanuts, soy, and wheat.
Avatar n tn You probably had a mild case of food poisoning with your system throwing out all the disagreeable stuff from your stomach or it could also be gastroenteritis. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.

Once the illness part of it past I felt absolutely fine, yet, I still can't eat much food at all, the smell of food makes me nauseous, I am getting heart burn all the time.
Avatar f tn The other possibility is that perhaps you had a touch of food poisoning but with your house having a stomach virus, likely you did as well and while the meds you took (don't take someone else's meds, take only what is prescribed by a doctor for you personally)--- stopped vomiting, it doesn't mean you didn't have the virus and other effects of it. good luck and are you better now?

Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
Avatar f tn I suddenly got light headed, started sweating and vomited everywhere. I vomited until every last morsel of food was gone. Then pooped so much it filled my entire toilet. I woke back up at like four o clock in the morning with stomach cramps and muscle crams so bad I had to take a pain pill to help me get confortable .I am currently still in pain it is now almost 7am. Please tell me what this could possible be.
Avatar n tn I also battle chronic/recurrent yeast infections which has been going on for five years, which treatment has been unsuccessful for. Don't know if that indicates an immune issue that's making me unable to recover from this "gastroenteritis".
