Common Questions and Answers about Gastroenteritis symptoms salmonella

gastroenteritis

Avatar f tn Viral gastroenteritis symptoms may appear 1-3 days after you are infected and can range from mild to severe. Symptoms usually last just a day or two, but occasionally they may persist as long as 10 days. Because the symptoms are similar, it is easy to confuse diarrhea caused by viruses with diarrhea caused by bacteria (e.g., Clostridium difficile, salmonella, and E. coli) or parasites (e.g., giardia). If your symptoms persist, see your doctor for further workup and management.

Stats/History: Healthy, active 34-year-old female, 5'6" 135 pounds. 2 prior C-sections, Hashimoto's disease (well controlled for 2+ years with Levoxyl), mild asthma Background: I traveled to Mexico (Cabo) in mid-October. Avatar n tn Blood transfusions are safe these days, you're stuck on the fear of a transfusion based on incidents where people acquired HIV early on in the epidemic. The blood supply is safe, your daughter has no HIV concerns. You need to listen to your daughter's doctor and seek some professional help for yourself to help you move on. It sounds like she has a stomach flu, which is in NO way related to HIV.

Avatar m tn My girlfriend has experienced chronic stomach and digestive issues for the past year and a half. Her symptoms have evolved over time and they are really intermittent. She started by getting diarrhea every few days and always had an upset stomach. She got blood and stool samples, I believe it was the blood sample that showed up salmonella (although it might have been the stool). They put her on antibiotics, and it didn’t go away. We later moved and she went to another doctor.
Avatar f tn But its specifically on my side, not my back or tummy. Its been a week since symptoms started. Symptoms include a constant achy feeling in the area, sharp pains in the area when i lay down or move positions or laugh or cough. I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left.

Avatar n tn I'm just wondering what my odds of contracting salmonella are. I went out to the Wildlife Sanctuary today and fed the ducks, and two decided to fly up onto my shoulder. They even climbed on my feet. If there were any germs, they're now pretty much everywhere. I've touched my jacket, scarf, phone, wristlet, etc. Countless surfaces I could have passed any germs to.

When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar f tn Hi It could be a case of gastroenteritis (gut infection) which has led to diarrhea and vomiting. The main symptoms of gastroenteritis are diarrhea and vomiting although one or the other symptom may predominate. If the symptoms persist (>1 day), worsen or lead to other complications you should consult your doctor who could order some tests such as stool examination etc. In the meanwhile take rest and drink lots of fluids to avoid dehydration.
