Common Questions and Answers about Gastroenteritis symptoms of dehydration

gastroenteritis

Avatar f tn Hi It could be a case of gastroenteritis (gut infection) which has led to diarrhea and vomiting. The main symptoms of gastroenteritis are diarrhea and vomiting although one or the other symptom may predominate. If the symptoms persist (>1 day), worsen or lead to other complications you should consult your doctor who could order some tests such as stool examination etc. In the meanwhile take rest and drink lots of fluids to avoid dehydration.
Avatar f tn Hello, Without examination it is very difficult to confirm a diagnosis, but some of the possibilities for your symptoms are gastroenteritis and dehydration. Drink plenty of water as dehydration can lead to electrolyte imbalance which in turn can lead to low BP and hence dizziness. Hypoglycemia, anemia, infections, endocrine disorders like thyroid, adrenal glands, and pituitary gland disorders can also lead to dizziness and nausea. What about your last menstrual periods.
Avatar n tn What should I be looking for regarding symptoms of this disease? He is one of two cats abandened after a fire. The other is a american short hair female. The female was not diagnosed with the disease at two years of age and was vaccinated.
Avatar n tn The doctor is also clueless and told me it might be due to severe dehydration and infection that has risen my blood sugar level. So, dear dctor, was it indeed due to severe dehydration and gastroenteritis infection that has produced such abnormal blood sugar level or was it due to wrong test method? i have little doubt on the quality of that hospital becos it is run by christain society and it touched my heart becos of quality service and fantastic hospitality i have received there.
Avatar n tn s for 4 yrs It began when my husband was dying.I spent 4 days in the hospital with electrolytes out of balance due to dehydration from uncontrollable diahrrea and vomiting; diagnosed as Acute Gastroenteritis. A year ago I began having intermittent bouts of vomiting bile every few months. Have been on all PPI's and Acid Reflux controlled pretty well but still have vomiting episodes. What's your recommendation?
Avatar f tn If the symptoms do not settle in 5-10 days or there is development of additional symptoms such as blood in stools, I would suggest an evaluation by a primary care physician for appropriate management. A visit to the ER may be considered if there are symptoms of dehydration such as dizziness etc. Hope this is helpful. Take care!

Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! The symptoms of norovirus are the symptoms of gastroenteritis. These include stomach, pain, diarrhea, vomiting, etc. I don't believe it is running around california now.
Avatar f tn I cant eat or drink anything. Not even water. Even the thought of it makes me sick. I can be in the middle of eating and all of the sudden, I can't eat it anymore and if I try I can't even chew it up. Just the thought of chewing and swallowing makes me very nauseous. And I am throwing up and gaging even when I'm not eating too. But the symptoms seem to come and go. Because of the not eating enough, I have diarrhea that's green.
Avatar n tn ve had a horrible two months August 10th I fell quite ill. I was at a festival so at first GP assumed food poisoning, my symptoms were diarrhea (which became bloody after a week), vomiting, sweats, weakness and fatigue. My GP did stool samples which showed nothing, but blood tests showed signs of infection so I was given Ciprofloxacin. I couldn't eat at all for 10 days, and I lost 22lbs in just under 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
1827365 tn?1410506306 Some symptoms are thirst, decreased urine output, darker urine color, fatigue, dry mouth. In a healthy adult you can typically treat mild dehydration with more water or sports drinks. More severe signs are extreme thirst, extremely dry mucus membranes, dry skin that loses it's elasticity (when you pinch into a fold it doesn't bounce back) little to no urinary output, amber or very dark concentrated urine if you can pee, decreased blood pressure and dizziness.
Avatar f tn I am recovering from a recent bout of what seemed to be gastroenteritis. I had constant diarrhea for 5 days, plus nausea and crampy pains in my stomach and bowel. I was hospitalised for severe dehydration, where numerous bloods were taken. Results showed a slightly elevated white cell count. My issue is that even though I am feeling slightly better 3 days later and have resumed eating, my stomach is behaving strangely.
Avatar f tn On day 7 of a severe case of gastroenteritis. Everything seems to have calmed down, but once I try and eat anything stomach cramps start, which are unbearable. Sometimes followed by diarrhoea. Is this normal after a severe case of gastroenteritis or do I need to see my G.P again?
Avatar f tn Hello, I cannot confirm without examination, but it sounds like gastroenteritis. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.Dizziness is caused by loss of water and electrolyte imbalance because of vomitings. Take adequate fluids throughout the day. The BRAT diet (ie, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) or soft easily digestible semisolid diet can also be taken. Antimicrobial therapy is indicated for some bacterial gastroenteritis infections.
Avatar n tn Abdominal pain, vomting, increased frequency of stools can be due to number of causes. Viral gastroenteritis, stomach flu, food poisoning. Irregular periods, brown discharge during periods can be due to number of causes. Pelvic inflammatory diseases, hormonal imbalances all can lead to these symptoms. Drink plenty of water and fluids to avoid dehydration. You should go to the doctor again and get yourself evaluated.
Avatar f tn I was hospitalized a few years ago with severe vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and dehydration. I was diagnosed with gastroenteritis and acute pancreatitis. This is the only major GI problem I have ever had. I am very slender, 105 pounds, so I was wondering if maybe it was normal to feel a lump during digestion just because I am skinny and it's easy to feel my anatomy, or if I should be more concerned. Thanks!
Avatar f tn But its specifically on my side, not my back or tummy. Its been a week since symptoms started. Symptoms include a constant achy feeling in the area, sharp pains in the area when i lay down or move positions or laugh or cough. I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left.
Avatar m tn Previously my symptoms could only be felt in the morning and for the rest of the day I was fine. Now the tip of my penis itches and is more sensitive as well. My question is , could it be that the injection and the cipro didnt kill whatever bacteria in the first place? Or could this be a yeast infection due to a extended intake of Cipro? I look forward to your reply!
7454812 tn?1391877431 My dad is a diabetic so he was told some symptoms from his nurse. Dry mouth, constipation, headaches etc. I also used Google to see symptoms while pregnant and it lists the same symptoms included contractions and dark urine.
