Avatar n tn Hi Dr HHH, I'd posted a question a few months ago in regards to my daughter. She has a blood transfusion (4 units) and I was concerned about possible HIV exposure. After being told by you no worries because everything is tested thoroughly now but if I was still worried to talk to her Dr. I spoke with her Dr. about my concerns. He tested her at 3.5 weeks and it was negative. He also told me no worries he was 99.
Avatar n tn Hello, Diarrhea and vomitings can be provoked either by an intestinal infection or by illness somewhere else in the body. When they begin suddenly, the problem is usually gastroenteritis (or stomach flu), most often caused by a virus and sometimes by bacteria and parasites. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.
1770029 tn?1325802355 meaning the influenza virus does not cause flu in the stomach. It is considered gastroenteritis. The symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, low grade fever up to 100 degrees and possible cramps are caused by many things, virus or bacterial. However, the most common cause is a virus called Norovirus. It is spead from person to person by fecal oral contamination.
Avatar n tn If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.
591925 tn?1218982710 And it was a Gastrointestinal Infection as the Doc put it...I think he mentioned Gastroenteritis. He put me on an antibiotic called Cipro 500mg, told me to just try liquids for 24hrs, then use the "BRAT" diet as the nausea goes away. And I should start feeling better within 3 days and then can return to work/activities, but will be taking the med's for 7 days. Thanks for the suggestions and comments!
535089 tn?1400673519 I was recently Hospitalized with Gastroenteritis/Colitis and was wondering if anyone could give me some options for a good food regiment (liquid diet) that would help calm the intestines. I have had a recent infection including Colitis, Gastroenteritis (sp). I would also like to know what the best OTC antacid might be to calm the tummy. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn AIDS acute period will appear similar to the symptoms of acute gastroenteritis? Symptoms lasted for about four days, infusion improvement in 3 days. It is the acute phase of AIDS symptoms?
Avatar m tn The symptoms described by you could be due to gastroenteritis, which is infection of the intestines. Amoebiasis is another infection, which can cause similar symptoms. Other common causes are flatulence and indigestion. Some inflammatory bowel diseases like diverticulitis and crohn’s disease can produce similar symptoms. Here the walls of the intestines are swollen.
Avatar m tn It can be a re- infection or a lingering old infection. you need medical attention. I hope other member may give a better suggestion..

Avatar n tn My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
Avatar n tn The prime one which needs to be ruled out is gastroenteritis. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis. Other possibilities are diabetes, cyclic vomiting syndrome, liver pathologies,ETEC infection and mesenteric adenitis. In my opinion, consulting a physician will be the best because without examination,I cannot confirm a diagnosis. Hope it helps.
Avatar n tn The doctor is also clueless and told me it might be due to severe dehydration and infection that has risen my blood sugar level. So, dear dctor, was it indeed due to severe dehydration and gastroenteritis infection that has produced such abnormal blood sugar level or was it due to wrong test method? i have little doubt on the quality of that hospital becos it is run by christain society and it touched my heart becos of quality service and fantastic hospitality i have received there.
Avatar m tn The doctor diagnosed viral gastroenteritis, and he soon improved with antibiotics. It should be noted that my husband also experienced an outbreak of mouth ulcers at this time (he has experienced these periodically throughout his life). A few weeks later, the fever was back for a few days, this time unaccompanied by gastrointestinal problems--though the mouth ulcers did recur. The fever lasted a couple days and went away. Now it's back (again!
Avatar n tn For the past year, I've had chronic diarrhea, nausea, severe belching (no bloating though), nausea and vomiting off and on, low grade fevers, and my stomach makes horrible, loud watery gurgling noises all day. It all started with an "intestinal flu" that EVERYONE in my workplace contracted last March, (right after a co-worker's dog suffered an "intestinal infection" which cleared with metronidazole.).
Avatar m tn I felt fine within a few hours, then went to the doctor and had everything checked and she said she thought it was Gastroenteritis. My vitals were all good. Since Tuesday I still hear groaning, creeky and bubbly sounds especially in the morning. Today for my cheat day I bought some cookies, but 20 minutes after eating them I ran to the bathroom. I also feel more anxious, worried these days with job issues...so overall I'm not sure if this is an IBS flare up, or colitis or what.
Avatar n tn I spent 4 days in the hospital with electrolytes out of balance due to dehydration from uncontrollable diahrrea and vomiting; diagnosed as Acute Gastroenteritis. A year ago I began having intermittent bouts of vomiting bile every few months. Have been on all PPI's and Acid Reflux controlled pretty well but still have vomiting episodes. What's your recommendation? This leaves me wiped out for a couple of days with tenderness in stomach and right abdomen.

Avatar m tn I just tested positive for Oral Herpes (HSV1) - I was afraid to death when I found out but after research find that a large percentage of people have this strain because it's so contagious, but don't know it because they haven't experienced an outbreak, neither have I...... But I'm worried that I may have infected others...... So my question is 3-fold..... Can I infect someone by giving them oral and therefore in effect give them HSV-2 (genital Herpes) because I have HSV1?
Avatar n tn Control of the arthritis is possible by controling the infection along with gaining control over the various reactive agents, inside your body. Regarding the time period, mentioned as 6 weeks, we have seen patients coming with reactive arthritis, having an interval of 3 months also. Hence, there is a high possibility of this condition. Yo may get yourself tested for Gonnorehea or Chlamidya also. But do get the HIV re-tested after 6 months also. Are you having a poor or risky sexual history?
