gastroenteritis

Avatar n tn Gastroenteritis can be produced from viral, bacterial and parasitic infections, contaminated food or water, food poisoning, use of harsh laxatives, change in bacteria that normally live in the intestinal tract, chemical toxins in certain plants, seafood, or contaminated food, and heavy metal poisoning. Take adequate fluids throughout the day. The BRAT diet (ie, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) or soft easily digestible semisolid diet can also be taken.

Avatar n tn If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.
Avatar f tn Yes, you had something but unlikely food poisoning. Could have simple gastroenteritis. Blood in stool looks like coffee grounds. Dark stool means you may have been constipated and it came from 'higher up' in your gi tract and this could account for nausea and discomfort as well. And perhaps the stool was older due to constipation and causes a bit of micro tearing on the way out. All of that is reasonable to think. You would have heard if you gave food poisoning to anyone by now.
Avatar f tn The other possibility is that perhaps you had a touch of food poisoning but with your house having a stomach virus, likely you did as well and while the meds you took (don't take someone else's meds, take only what is prescribed by a doctor for you personally)--- stopped vomiting, it doesn't mean you didn't have the virus and other effects of it. good luck and are you better now?
569711 tn?1216876935 Hi, The stomach pain could be due gastritis, gastroenteritis, and viral infection of the stomach. It could also be food poisoning which can cause stomach pain and vomiting. You may have sprained your neck during sleep. I would suggest you to continue with the heat and ice therapy and take a mild OTC painkiller. For your stomach issues please consult a physician as you need to undergo a physical exam.
Avatar n tn The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. In the meantime take oral fluids and OTC acetaminophen for the abdominal pain. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
987762 tn?1671273328 m starting to wonder if food poisoning, like a bad or prolonged infection can start off a relapse in me, could the food poisoning possibly of done the same? I'm wondering, because i'm into almost my 3rd day of my declining string puppet walk and struggling to talk. Since 09 i've had a window of 3-5 hours of, as normal as i'm going to get but when i relapse, my window gets shorter and shorter, and resting just doesn't give me 'my' window of normal.
Avatar n tn Do you think you have food poisoning or a stomach bug? Unfortunately, with stomach bugs, really there is nothing a doctor can do. It's important to stay hydrated. Drink small sips though. But frequently. Just a couple of sips every 15 minutes. Don't worry about eating. Just stay hydrated. If it's food poisoning, they often don't do anything either but occasionally give an antiemetic which helps stop vomiting. They really use these sparingly though.
3166043 tn?1514260018 Its unlikely that the ink tattooing has caused this, its more likely due to the food you consumed from the convenience store. Till you recover avoid foods like milk and milk products, high fat or greasy food, foods that have a lot of fiber like citrus fruits and very sweet foods, such as cakes and sweets. Replacing the lost fluid and salt forms the mainstay of therapy for diarrhea, this is to prevent dehydration.
Avatar f tn The spasms could be due to gas as this in diabetes there is a slowing down of gut movement, constipation, gas and bloating. It can also be due to food poisoning or gastroenteritis. PCOD is also a cause of cramps and so is pelvic inflammatory disease. IBS, Crohn’s and celiac disease too should be ruled out. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi, Common causes for dizziness with nausea include high blood pressure, vertigo, food poisoning, smoking, depression or anxiety, gastroenteritis etc. Certain drugs like antibiotics, birth control pills etc can cause these symptoms. You should get a check of your pressures with 3 consecutive readings for further conclusion on this. It could even be due to low blood sugars. Hope this helps. Best.
Avatar m tn You could be suffering from viral gastroenteritis or from food poisoning. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers, banana, rice, peeled apple, etc. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment. If still the symptoms persist, then you may need an antibiotic for the gut and would need to see a doctor.

This will make you feel light-headed, throwing up, very strange in general. Continue to take your Zofran, an ordinary Alka Seltzer Original is good, drink some milk, which Acidophilus milk is really good for you, it helps balance the flora in your intestines.

Avatar n tn Welcome to my crazy world...well, I guess it's vise versa since you got sick 5 years ago...mine was 1 year ago. One question I have is were you put on anything for the food poisoning? Antibiotics? I was severly sick vomitting for 5 days before I was hospitalized...it took the hospital another 5 days to figure out it was food poisoning and they put me on a potent antibiotic with known long term side affects.
Avatar n tn ve had a horrible two months August 10th I fell quite ill. I was at a festival so at first GP assumed food poisoning, my symptoms were diarrhea (which became bloody after a week), vomiting, sweats, weakness and fatigue. My GP did stool samples which showed nothing, but blood tests showed signs of infection so I was given Ciprofloxacin. I couldn't eat at all for 10 days, and I lost 22lbs in just under 2 weeks.
