Avatar f tn Hi Mid July I had a dreadful vomiting session - c. one and a half hours. Lots of blood. My husband took me to A&E. I could hardly stand, didn't really know what day it was. Got there, more vomiting blood. Dealt with immediately and taken to a ward by about 2.30am. Put on a drip with additives to prevent more sickness and help stomach lining, also intravenous insulin as have T2 diabetes.
Avatar f tn 2 days after that I was hospitalized for a Mallory Weiss tear. Since I was having Twitches that seem to jump around my body. one moment legs back arm face Etc.
678069 tn?1254422777 The blood could be caused by several different conditions including a bleeding ulcer, gastritis, esophageal varices or a tear in the esophagus from violent vomiting (Mallory-Weiss tear). The tarry appearance of the stool is from the blood having contact with the body’s digestive juices. After melena is diagnosed, a physician may order other diagnostic tests to determine the cause and exact location of the bleeding.
Avatar n tn Causes may be lying in esophagus, stomach or duodenum like bleeding ulcers, varices, Mallory-Weiss syndrome (esophageal tear),inflammation of any of the three, irritation or erosion of the lining of the esophagus or stomach, vascular malfunctions of the gastrointestinal tract and tumors of the stomach or esophagus. Sometimes,it may be due to vomiting of ingested blood after hemorrhage in the oral cavity, nose or throat.

Avatar f tn A Weiss ring which I understand is permanent, but the entire vitreous apperas to be hazy and filled with many, many dark strands. Almost like a large moving sheet or web across my vision in most all light but much worse outdoors. The specialist did say that my vitreous appeared to be very "clumpy" but that he never recommends vitrectomy due to its inherent risks.
Avatar n tn Any ideas as to what may cause this? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Having a Weiss Ring associated with a posterior vitreous detachment is not a risk factor for more likely having a hole, tear, or RD than PVD not associated with Weiss Ring. I have a Weiss Ring in my right eye and can see it as I type this response. It's just bigger than your average floater or as I tell patients "Like a redwood tree in a pine tree forest.
Avatar n tn No Weiss rings are common and do not require any special training to diagnose. Weiss rings are not always "rings" because they often tear (like a donut) and can look like strings, crescents, etc. Since 3 our of 3 say you have PVDs and Weiss rings come off the back of the eye due to PVD I don't see what the problem is.
Avatar n tn I recently experienced large black flashes when moving my eye, and then I started getting floaters. After 2 weeks, I developed a Weiss circle. I went to a retinal specialist a week later, and there was a tear in my retina due to the vitreous tissue pulling away from the retina, which causes the Weiss ring. It doesn't always tear when the vitreous tissue pulls away.
Avatar f tn Weiss rings do not always gravitate to the bottom of the eye. the one I have has been in the center of my vision for 5 years. Fortunately I am able to "tune it out" most of the time. Nothing can be done that is practical and safe to get it to "sink out of sight" Laser and injection of vitreous liquefaction medications are either too dangerous or not effective.
Avatar m tn My strong advice is to see an ophthalmologist for a complete eye exam with dilated retinal exam. You need to be checked for a possible retinal tear or detachment and get to know the doctor because you could have more symptoms and possible problems with vitreous or retina in the future.
Avatar f tn Most people (me included) have the ability to "tune out" floaters even large Weiss ring floaters due to neuroadaptation. So try and just forget about it. Your MD can NOT see the flashes. Hopefully the double vision will clear up. Share your concerns and questions with your eye MD surgeon. He/she is in the best position to give specific answers.
Avatar m tn Taking the second issue first, that can't be known at this point. Back pain is a huge source of disability, and it is impossible to predict who will do well and who won't. I can give you some general ways to improve your odds of avoiding disability: don't smoke (smoking affects more than just the lungs!
4727740 tn?1408875465 I have a weiss ring in my right eye and no other medical problems. At the time I was a swimming champion.

Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply. I alway enjoy reading your comments. I wish your theory the more myopic the greater chance of getting these beautiful Weiss Rings were constant but there always seem to be the exception to the rule. My best friend is myopic -13 & -15. No Weiss Rings in either eye. She began wearing hard contact lenses when they first hit the market. Believe it or not HER MOTHER insisted the doctor fit her with them because she didn't want her daughter wearing glasses.
Avatar n tn I had two tufts in my left eye and did suffer 2 tears preciously where those tufts were located during a PVD. I have two tufts in the same location in my opposite eye and I was just diagnosed with a Weiss Ring and PVD in that eye (my right eye). What are the chances the tufts in my right eye will lead to a tear as the vitreous pulls away given when it pulled away in the opposite eye, it resulted in tears where both tufts were.
Avatar f tn The laser surgery was horribly painful, with headaches lasting for some time after wards, so I dread this option, but I’m also hugely concerned about waiting and watching because should a tear occur, what if it’s too large to repair by laser and/or the retina has detached to where now surgical intervention is necessary instead of just laser.
Avatar n tn But what happens when you get complete pvd? The weiss ring seems to be wiggling more; is that a sign that it might tear soon?
Avatar f tn I'm 70 yrs. old and had surgery for a horseshoe tear to retina two mos. ago. Had 3 follow-up visits in the interim. Since a blood vessel broke with this tear there was considerable blood. My vision has cleared thankfully, but the cobweblike large floater and minimal flashing at the side of eye still persists. This floater rests at the top of my field of vision and shifts when I move my eye. Next visit in 2 months. How long will this floater be with me? A reply will be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I remember when my Weiss ring drifted into my field of vision. I was reading at my desk at an eye meeting in st. Louis MO. I knew immediately what it was and was amazed at how large it was. I was sure i would never get use to it. Took maybe 6-9 months but I completely tune it out now (along with 10s of others) unless a patient starts to complain about theirs then I can see mine.
