gastroenteritis

Avatar n tn Gastroenteritis can be produced from viral, bacterial and parasitic infections, contaminated food or water, food poisoning, use of harsh laxatives, change in bacteria that normally live in the intestinal tract, chemical toxins in certain plants, seafood, or contaminated food, and heavy metal poisoning. Take adequate fluids throughout the day. The BRAT diet (ie, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) or soft easily digestible semisolid diet can also be taken.
Avatar f tn Hi.. it could be food poisoning or e-coli infection.. nothing to worry but require medication to get rid off.. i suggest you consult a doctor.. good luck.. get well soon..
Avatar n tn If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.
Avatar f tn Yes, you had something but unlikely food poisoning. Could have simple gastroenteritis. Blood in stool looks like coffee grounds. Dark stool means you may have been constipated and it came from 'higher up' in your gi tract and this could account for nausea and discomfort as well. And perhaps the stool was older due to constipation and causes a bit of micro tearing on the way out. All of that is reasonable to think. You would have heard if you gave food poisoning to anyone by now.
Avatar f tn The other possibility is that perhaps you had a touch of food poisoning but with your house having a stomach virus, likely you did as well and while the meds you took (don't take someone else's meds, take only what is prescribed by a doctor for you personally)--- stopped vomiting, it doesn't mean you didn't have the virus and other effects of it. good luck and are you better now?
569711 tn?1216876935 Hi, The stomach pain could be due gastritis, gastroenteritis, and viral infection of the stomach. It could also be food poisoning which can cause stomach pain and vomiting. You may have sprained your neck during sleep. I would suggest you to continue with the heat and ice therapy and take a mild OTC painkiller. For your stomach issues please consult a physician as you need to undergo a physical exam.
Avatar n tn The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. In the meantime take oral fluids and OTC acetaminophen for the abdominal pain. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
987762 tn?1671273328 m starting to wonder if food poisoning, like a bad or prolonged infection can start off a relapse in me, could the food poisoning possibly of done the same? I'm wondering, because i'm into almost my 3rd day of my declining string puppet walk and struggling to talk. Since 09 i've had a window of 3-5 hours of, as normal as i'm going to get but when i relapse, my window gets shorter and shorter, and resting just doesn't give me 'my' window of normal.
3166043 tn?1514260018 I had a random bout of diarrhea around 10pm (it's 2:35 now) and i can't stop worrying about it. I had a pretty large slurpee from a conveince store and then about a hour or so later my stomach started making noises and it felt like my intestines were on fire. Was it from that? Im thinking i have ink poisoning from my tattoo that i got yesterday. I haven't gone again. I ate a whole bag of sweet chili heat Doritos but that was 2 days ago so it can't be that?
Avatar n tn Do you think you have food poisoning or a stomach bug? Unfortunately, with stomach bugs, really there is nothing a doctor can do. It's important to stay hydrated. Drink small sips though. But frequently. Just a couple of sips every 15 minutes. Don't worry about eating. Just stay hydrated. If it's food poisoning, they often don't do anything either but occasionally give an antiemetic which helps stop vomiting. They really use these sparingly though.
Avatar n tn I assumed it was food poisoning because that seemed to be what the symptoms were, especially when on sunday i didnt throw up one time and the runs got better for me. But on sunday night when i urinated before bed, i noticed some blood in my urine. This has not occured again since but it concerned me. Also, I have woken up with the night sweats on Sunday and Monday night, and on tuesday morning I had really bad diarrhea again. Any ideas?

You should get a check of your pressures with 3 consecutive readings for further conclusion on this. It could even be due to low blood sugars. Hope this helps. Best.
Avatar m tn You could be suffering from viral gastroenteritis or from food poisoning. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers, banana, rice, peeled apple, etc. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment. If still the symptoms persist, then you may need an antibiotic for the gut and would need to see a doctor.

1788584 tn?1315106518 Actually, it sounds exactly like you got either a slight food poisoning or you have a little digestive virus or bacteria. This will make you feel light-headed, throwing up, very strange in general. Continue to take your Zofran, an ordinary Alka Seltzer Original is good, drink some milk, which Acidophilus milk is really good for you, it helps balance the flora in your intestines.
Avatar n tn I got food poisoning over 5 years ago. My body changed within a month of the episode. I am now 33 years old.

Avatar n tn ve had a horrible two months August 10th I fell quite ill. I was at a festival so at first GP assumed food poisoning, my symptoms were diarrhea (which became bloody after a week), vomiting, sweats, weakness and fatigue. My GP did stool samples which showed nothing, but blood tests showed signs of infection so I was given Ciprofloxacin. I couldn't eat at all for 10 days, and I lost 22lbs in just under 2 weeks.
