Avatar n tn My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar m tn However, shooting pain and diarrhea can be due to viral or bacterial gastroenteritis or stomach flu as well. I suggest, you get stool examined for infection. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation (probiotics) and yoghurt with your meals, after giving the stool sample for examination Drink plenty of fluids (clear soups, water, ORS in water, lemonade). Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers, banana, rice, peeled apple, etc.

Avatar f tn Viral gastroenteritis is an intestinal disease set apart by watery the runs, stomach spasms, sickness or retching, and once in a while fever. 693811 tn?1245871706 My husband recently had a bout of gastroenteritis and he had the same pain, but he also had N/V which I have not had. I did have chills, which are relieved by vitamin C (several grams per day). The hospital I work in has had a very slow moving gastroenteritis going through patients and staff. I thought I had that already and it was just gut pain and was relieved with much yogurt. This virus seems to have a long incubation period. It's nothing like Norwalk.

Avatar f tn I have had gastroenteritis for years. I also have gastric reflux a lot now that I am almost 90. The fat around my belly / stomach area is terribly uncomfortable. I have spondylitis of the spine so cannot do the exercises I used to lose weight previously. I do not move much and worry the fat if a symptom of some disease. I complained to my doctor about the nuisance of the fat and he said, "If it is fat" and he did not elaborate. Cancer is a horrible thought.

I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left. I am really in pain but i am taking my meds as described. Does this sound like viral gastroenteritis to you? I am in such severe pain just laying here typing this and barely moving.. Please help. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hello, Diarrhea and vomitings can be provoked either by an intestinal infection or by illness somewhere else in the body. When they begin suddenly, the problem is usually gastroenteritis (or stomach flu), most often caused by a virus and sometimes by bacteria and parasites. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.
Avatar f tn The pain described by you could be due to gastroenteritis, which is infection of the intestines. Amoebiasis is another infection, which can cause similar symptoms. Other common causes are constipation and indigestion. So, don't worry and discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him next time. Regards.

Avatar n tn Black stool can be due to medicine you took. It can also be due to bleeding into gut such as due to acidity, IBS, inflammatory bowel disease and even due to gastroenteritis. If this repeats it self get the stool tested for occult or hidden blood. Hope this helps. Take care!

Avatar n tn But your persisting symptoms of vomiting could also indicate a viral gastroenteritis. The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. In the meantime take oral fluids. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

It gets better with over the counter antacids. Stomach flu can cause indigestion and abdominal discomfort. Viral gastroenteritis can lead to nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
