My son has Inflammatory Bowel Disease but his diet will be different than a liquid one I really believe that the OTC antacid and it's effectiveness depends on the person. Rolaids seem to work the best for me. But 5 years ago Tums worked better. Be careful taking an antacid. There are many medications that the antacid will reduce it's effectiveness or is not recommend at all.
Avatar n tn Hello, Diarrhea and vomitings can be provoked either by an intestinal infection or by illness somewhere else in the body. When they begin suddenly, the problem is usually gastroenteritis (or stomach flu), most often caused by a virus and sometimes by bacteria and parasites. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.
Avatar f tn Hello, I cannot confirm without examination, but it sounds like gastroenteritis. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.Dizziness is caused by loss of water and electrolyte imbalance because of vomitings. Take adequate fluids throughout the day. The BRAT diet (ie, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) or soft easily digestible semisolid diet can also be taken. Antimicrobial therapy is indicated for some bacterial gastroenteritis infections.
Avatar f tn Oh boy, that stinks. I've had gastroenteritis. I went on the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast). What about broth like chicken noodle soup, you eat the broth? Smoothie? If you are recovering, start back on food slowly. Most important thing is hydration. Drink a lot of fluids. Food can come back slowly and we are fine. But we have to stay hydrated. Go with bland.
Avatar f tn php You could also have your symptoms and pancreatitis and have elevated lipase. Sometimes a bland diet will help such as the brat diet. This is banana, rice, applesauce, and toast. Lipase can stay elevated for a couple of weeks after a bout of gastroenteritis or pancreatitis. How long has it been?
Avatar f tn Take adequate fluids throughout the day. The BRAT diet (ie, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) or soft easily digestible semisolid diet can also be taken. Antimicrobial therapy is indicated for some bacterial gastroenteritis infections. However, many are self-limited and do not require therapy. The specific antibiotics are taken for specific bacteria after stool culture.

Avatar n tn I spent 4 days in the hospital with electrolytes out of balance due to dehydration from uncontrollable diahrrea and vomiting; diagnosed as Acute Gastroenteritis. A year ago I began having intermittent bouts of vomiting bile every few months. Have been on all PPI's and Acid Reflux controlled pretty well but still have vomiting episodes. What's your recommendation? This leaves me wiped out for a couple of days with tenderness in stomach and right abdomen.

Avatar n tn My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
Avatar f tn s alittle info on it hope this helps The BRAT diet is a diet for patients with gastrointestinal distress such as diarrhea, dyspepsia, and/or gastroenteritis. The BRAT diet is a bland diet that consists of foods that are low in fiber. Low-fiber foods were recommended as it was thought that foods high in fiber cause gas and possibly worsen gastrointestinal upset.[1] An acronym, BRAT is a mnemonic for bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast, the staples of the diet.
Avatar m tn Hey everyone, so I'll start by saying that I was told when I was a child that I had IBS. I always had stomach aches and bathroom problems as a child, but I'm 29 years old now and havent had issues since late high school. I've also had anxiety for the longest time. Back in September I went on a "Testosterone Diet", eating T-Boosting foods like cabbage, broccoli, kale, nuts, onions, meat, bananas, kefir, spinach, rice daily....
693811 tn?1245871706 My husband recently had a bout of gastroenteritis and he had the same pain, but he also had N/V which I have not had. I did have chills, which are relieved by vitamin C (several grams per day). The hospital I work in has had a very slow moving gastroenteritis going through patients and staff. I thought I had that already and it was just gut pain and was relieved with much yogurt. This virus seems to have a long incubation period. It's nothing like Norwalk.
Avatar f tn Morning Everyone, Lately, I become increasingly sick whenever I eat any dairy products. I have been on this new "Paleo Diet" which requires me to ONLY eat protein. Maybe this has something to do with it?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis 2 years ago. I spent 17 days in the hospital and received high dose oral steroid treatment to treat it. It went away; however, the problem has resurfaced. My doctor has recommended I start a six food elimination diet. My question is: is there anybody doing this diet and how are you avoiding these foods? They seem to be in everything at the store. MY SFED consists of egg, milk, seafood/shellfish, tree nuts/peanuts, soy, and wheat.
Avatar n tn He told me that I have a mild case of colits due to an intestinal bug going around. He told me to go on a liquid diet for 72 hours but to call if it gets worse or I get a fever. Did your doctor suggest an anibiotic? Did he/she ask you to moderate your diet? I'm trying to figure out which over the counter pain medication I can take if I get a headache.
Avatar n tn Hello, The vomitings and diarrhea can be due to gastroenteritis but for the ovarian pain, premenstrual symptoms can cause such pain. It can be avoided by taking a balanced diet rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals. Avoid excess caffeine, alcohol and smoking. Indulge in mild exercises everyday. You may take some pain killers like acetaminophen for pain relief. But of problem persists please consult a gynaecologist.
Avatar f tn On day 7 of a severe case of gastroenteritis. Everything seems to have calmed down, but once I try and eat anything stomach cramps start, which are unbearable. Sometimes followed by diarrhoea. Is this normal after a severe case of gastroenteritis or do I need to see my G.P again?
Avatar f tn Did your period come when you expected it? Was it early or late? This could simply be a gastroenteritis (stomach virus). I would give it some more time and see if your symptoms subside. IF your next period is late or abnormal, you may want to retake the pregnancy test just to be sure. You could also go see your regular doctor. IN the meantime, try sticking to a bland diet- toast, crackers, water, soup until your stomach settles a bit. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Now for the last couple month I am having colon spasm daily that are horrifying. I am thinking of adding Konsyl to my diet (gradually). Has anyone tried this and did it help? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Hi It could be a case of food poisoning or just a case of bacterial or viral gastroenteritis. Please drink plenty of fluids and take a light diet. Replenish the salts in your diet. Consult your doctor. You may need to take some tests like stool and urine examination. Please watch your urine color. A urine examination will detect any loss of blood however microscopic. In case there is blood loss, it will need to be looked into. Generalized infection can at times cause blood in urine.
Avatar m tn I went to the doctor thinking it is some kind of an STD but I was told that I have gastroenteritis. I want to mention that according to me, the prostitute had the same smell coming from her rectum. I mentioned this to the doc but he chose to ignore it. Anyway, I gave some tests on my own through an online STD testing facility and my Herpes, Chlamydia, HIV (PCR and ELisa), Gonorrhea, Syphilis all came back negative. This was the 4th day from the exposure.
Avatar f tn I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left. I am really in pain but i am taking my meds as described. Does this sound like viral gastroenteritis to you? I am in such severe pain just laying here typing this and barely moving.. Please help. Thank you.
