Avatar f tn Well, unfortunately, you can be contagious a few days to up to two weeks after a stomach bug. But usually it is 3 days. However, she may have had gastroenteritis, etc. which isn't contagious. I'd say you are in the clear but good hygiene to prevent illness is always a good idea.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar m tn However, shooting pain and diarrhea can be due to viral or bacterial gastroenteritis or stomach flu as well. I suggest, you get stool examined for infection. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation (probiotics) and yoghurt with your meals, after giving the stool sample for examination Drink plenty of fluids (clear soups, water, ORS in water, lemonade). Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers, banana, rice, peeled apple, etc.

It is spead from person to person by fecal oral contamination.

Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.

Avatar f tn Viral gastroenteritis is an intestinal disease set apart by watery the runs, stomach spasms, sickness or retching, and once in a while fever. The most widely recognized approach to create viral gastroenteritis — frequently called stomach influenza — is through contact with a tainted individual or by ingesting debased nourishment or water.
693811 tn?1245871706 My husband recently had a bout of gastroenteritis and he had the same pain, but he also had N/V which I have not had. I did have chills, which are relieved by vitamin C (several grams per day). The hospital I work in has had a very slow moving gastroenteritis going through patients and staff. I thought I had that already and it was just gut pain and was relieved with much yogurt. This virus seems to have a long incubation period. It's nothing like Norwalk.

Could someone give me an insight. Thank you.
Avatar f tn The bowel problems of diarrhea and nausea after eating may be due to GERD(gastro esophageal reflux disease), acute non-GI infections (pyelonephritis, pneumonia),gastroenteritis, liver diseases, pancreatic disorder, peptic disease of upper GI tract, gastric carcinoma,CNS diseases like infections, tumors, multiple sclerosis and metabolic disturbances like diabetes and adrenal insufficiency. Avatar f tn I have had gastroenteritis for years. I also have gastric reflux a lot now that I am almost 90. The fat around my belly / stomach area is terribly uncomfortable. I have spondylitis of the spine so cannot do the exercises I used to lose weight previously. I do not move much and worry the fat if a symptom of some disease. I complained to my doctor about the nuisance of the fat and he said, "If it is fat" and he did not elaborate. Cancer is a horrible thought.

Avatar f tn Is there is a difference in the degree of contagiousness between someone w/HCV who contracted the disease from a blood transfusion and someone that contrancted the disease from a needle stick? Avatar f tn I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left. I am really in pain but i am taking my meds as described. Does this sound like viral gastroenteritis to you? I am in such severe pain just laying here typing this and barely moving.. Please help. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hello, Diarrhea and vomitings can be provoked either by an intestinal infection or by illness somewhere else in the body. When they begin suddenly, the problem is usually gastroenteritis (or stomach flu), most often caused by a virus and sometimes by bacteria and parasites. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.
Avatar f tn The pain described by you could be due to gastroenteritis, which is infection of the intestines. Amoebiasis is another infection, which can cause similar symptoms. Other common causes are constipation and indigestion. So, don't worry and discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him next time. Regards.
