They didnt do any radiology tests on him, just blood work and a stool sample. We have to wait at least 48 hours to get the stool sample results to find out if it could be a bacterial infection. His blood tests showed low platelet levels but his blood was clotting very fast while they were trying to draw blood for testing and his IV blew out because of a blood clot even though here had fluids going.

I was at a festival so at first GP assumed food poisoning, my symptoms were diarrhea (which became bloody after a week), vomiting, sweats, weakness and fatigue. Take adequate fluids throughout the day. The BRAT diet (ie, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) or soft easily digestible semisolid diet can also be taken. Antimicrobial therapy is indicated for some bacterial gastroenteritis infections.

It can also be due to bleeding into gut such as due to acidity, IBS, inflammatory bowel disease and even due to gastroenteritis. If this repeats it self get the stool tested for occult or hidden blood. Hope this helps. Take care!

Yes, you had something but unlikely food poisoning. Could have simple gastroenteritis. Blood in stool looks like coffee grounds. Dark stool means you may have been constipated and it came from 'higher up' in your gi tract and this could account for nausea and discomfort as well. And perhaps the stool was older due to constipation and causes a bit of micro tearing on the way out. All of that is reasonable to think. You would have heard if you gave food poisoning to anyone by now.

Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation (probiotics) and yoghurt with your meals, after giving the stool sample for examination Drink plenty of fluids (clear soups, water, ORS in water, lemonade).
