Common Questions and Answers about Gastroenteritis and nausea

gastroenteritis

Avatar f tn (The hollow right under your ribs, in your upper stomach) Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fever, malaise and general aches and pains. For most people symptoms subside within 1-3 days but you're contagious much longer. You can still pass the virus through your stool for 2 weeks or so and it can survive on surfaces for a long time too. Just take it easy, eat bland foods and rest a lot.

Avatar n tn Hi Dr HHH, I'd posted a question a few months ago in regards to my daughter. She has a blood transfusion (4 units) and I was concerned about possible HIV exposure. After being told by you no worries because everything is tested thoroughly now but if I was still worried to talk to her Dr. I spoke with her Dr. about my concerns. He tested her at 3.5 weeks and it was negative. He also told me no worries he was 99.
Avatar f tn Your persisting symptoms of pain, nausea and vomiting could indicate a viral gastroenteritis. The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. In the meantime take oral fluids and OTC acetaminophen for the pain. Regards.
Avatar f tn Hello, Chronic nausea can be due to stomach disorders such as gastroenteritis, liver/gall bladder disease, cancer, medications, inner ear diseases like labrynthitis, ulcers/gastritis, metabolic like diabetes, hypothyroidism and adrenal diseases or neurological causes. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids and eat small nutritious meals at frequent intervals instead of a heavy single meal.
591925 tn?1218982710 (but I am 58 and have had a hysterectomy!)....I eat toast, banana, and weak tea to help the nausea subside. I woke up now this morning with a horrific headache (like I used to get in the past and take Fiorcette for). Do any of you know what could make me feel like this? No nausea basically by mid-day onward until early in the next morning.....and then after eating food thru-out the day it subsides. I also have to mention that I have been on Xanax for 18 years now with no let up.

Avatar f tn I have been having on and off nausea but no vomiting. I had pain in my upper right rib area and sometimes in my back. It went away. They tested me for h pylori and it was negative. Also a ultrasound of the upper abdomen showed nothing, no stones. What can this be?
Avatar n tn That following day I experienced bad cramping in my stomach and more nausea, along with that I had lost my appettite, and still my headache was present. Today Im experiencing strong pressure on my temples, blurry vision, dizziness, and a strained feeling on my eyes....I feel horrible. Can someone tell me if I've had some sort of bad reaction to these pills or should I really see a doctor?
Avatar f tn I hope you are feeling better. Yes, a stomach virus can just cause nausea without vomiting. The symptoms are listed with OR's in it and not and meaning that it can or may not cause all the symptoms. https://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn I believe this could be an issue for the dizziness/nausea. Does this happen when you change the direction of you head and eyes---if so it could be an inner ear problem..that will make you dizzy/nausea even loose you balance.
Avatar f tn There seems to be a stomach bug going around our house. I experienced fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, and very bad indigestion. Yesterday when symptoms started, I took zofran. I have emetophobia. I have since taken two more zofran and Pepto. No vomiting or diarrhea, but I did wake up with a bad headache. I haven’t eaten a lot lately. Does this mean I will be sick for a longer period of time? How will the virus shed?
Avatar f tn It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Avatar m tn Hello, doctors. I'm a young, sexually active gay male. From time to time I meet a man from the Internet and engage in safer sex practices like fellatio (mostly with me performing it) and mutual masturbation. I never engage in anal sex with these men, and I always, always ask about HIV status. My last test was two months ago and the result was negative. So, normally, I'm not very worried about HIV. However, I have a concern that I hope you can address.
Avatar n tn If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.
1770029 tn?1325802355 Hi and sorry you are ill. There is no such thing as "stomach flu" meaning the influenza virus does not cause flu in the stomach. It is considered gastroenteritis. The symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, low grade fever up to 100 degrees and possible cramps are caused by many things, virus or bacterial. However, the most common cause is a virus called Norovirus. It is spead from person to person by fecal oral contamination.
569711 tn?1216876935 Hi, The stomach pain could be due gastritis, gastroenteritis, and viral infection of the stomach. It could also be food poisoning which can cause stomach pain and vomiting. You may have sprained your neck during sleep. I would suggest you to continue with the heat and ice therapy and take a mild OTC painkiller. For your stomach issues please consult a physician as you need to undergo a physical exam.

Avatar n tn My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
Avatar f tn I have drank a whole bottle of Emetrol an anti nausea liquid and no changes. I took a pregnancy test to rule out that possibility and it was negative.. I still dont understand why i cant seem to shake these symptoms.. please help im tired of feeling sick..
Avatar n tn m waiting for the results of a stool sample and he has also took blood to check my thyroid because of the weight loss, he tells me it is normal to still have nausea for this long and has advised me to eat small and often and to avoid dairy because of lactose and to keep low fat as the gut can't digest this. I'm bloated all of the time and feel so full after eating very little.
