Avatar n tn I have back issues, and I took this pain to be part of the overall inflammation I had in my body. I also worried about my liver, but my liver is fine. For some reason it focused on my right side, at my waist, throughout the whole center of my side, and yes--it hurt worse laying on my left side. I experienced it off and on for years. As if it was part of a flare-up. It eventually went away for good. I take Indocin for inflammation, so perhaps that is what keeps it at bay.

If massive number of liver cells are constantly dying (persistent elevated ALT), the growth of new liver cells may be irregular and uncontrolled, leading to scarring(fibrosis).

Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C are both blood borne meaning hepatitis B or C infected blood must enter the blood stream of an uninfected person.

Hope it helps.

Avatar m tn Nevertheless, NASH can be severe and can lead to cirrhosis, in which the liver is permanently damaged and scarred and no longer able to work properly. NASH affects 2 to 5 percent of Americans. An additional 10 to 20 percent of Americans have fat in their liver, but no inflammation or liver damage, a condition called “fatty liver.” Although having fat in the liver is not normal, by itself it probably causes little harm or permanent damage. http://www.digestive.niddk.nih.
