Avatar n tn She has a blood transfusion (4 units) and I was concerned about possible HIV exposure. After being told by you no worries because everything is tested thoroughly now but if I was still worried to talk to her Dr. I spoke with her Dr. about my concerns. He tested her at 3.5 weeks and it was negative. He also told me no worries he was 99.9999% sure HIV was no issue because everything is tested and retested now and it would make medical news, so again no worries which supported what you said.
Avatar f tn (The hollow right under your ribs, in your upper stomach) Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fever, malaise and general aches and pains. For most people symptoms subside within 1-3 days but you're contagious much longer. You can still pass the virus through your stool for 2 weeks or so and it can survive on surfaces for a long time too. Just take it easy, eat bland foods and rest a lot.

Avatar n tn His blood tests showed low platelet levels but his blood was clotting very fast while they were trying to draw blood for testing and his IV blew out because of a blood clot even though here had fluids going. Im worried that the blood clotting might be a sign of something very serious along with the bloody stools and upset that no radiology testing was done. Anything I should do from here to help?? Im thinking a GI specialist and maybe a blood specialist.

Avatar f tn Viral gastroenteritis symptoms may appear 1-3 days after you are infected and can range from mild to severe. Symptoms usually last just a day or two, but occasionally they may persist as long as 10 days. Because the symptoms are similar, it is easy to confuse diarrhea caused by viruses with diarrhea caused by bacteria (e.g., Clostridium difficile, salmonella, and E. coli) or parasites (e.g., giardia). If your symptoms persist, see your doctor for further workup and management.
Avatar n tn If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.
Avatar n tn If you saw blood, no matter how little, it's time to call you doc and get a few tests run. It may turn out to mean very little, but you need to find the source of the problem. Until you see your doctor, I'd suggest you discontinue the used of alcohol or any aspirin or other pain reliever meds such as Advil, etc.
